Answer» Hi, I've been having some what-seems-to-be harddisk stop errors. I have been trying to do a Windows Recovery and if won't let me. Message - "One of the files containing the system's registry data had to be RECOVERED by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful." But it takes ages to log into windows, even after start-up, and this message keeps coming up every TIME I restart, and system restore keep saying that it cannot restore, no changes have been made to my system. For some reason also, it keeps saying some new hardware has been found. It doesn't specify which, and I've checked device manager... no signs of anything foreign there.
Any help or suggestions, please help me.Try starting with Safe Mode and doing a system restore to one week ago. Does this work?Post alot more info on the machine; what happened prior to this and any new programs or hardware installed and someone will be along shortly...Hey I tried allsorts with SafeMode. I have a feeling it's not my harddisk, just the installation of Windows when I LAST reformatted must have had a few bugs... for instance, the standard installation of windows brings it's own zip utility, this one didn't have it. There seemed to have been problems with registry, cause THINGS were just not on. I hadn't installed anything new when I started having the stop-bluescreen errors, I was just on MSN messenger, and all of a sudden, chaos! Do you guys think I need a new hard disk? I have now reformatted it again and hopefully no more problems will happen after updates and drivers installed. I just hope it was a one-off thing and not the hard disk. What do you guys think? What is your OS? Is it an XP?
And also, as what Patio said we need more info about your PC. Please read this

I think we're going to need a bigger pair of pliers...
