Solve : Windows repair and profiles? |
|
Answer» Quick question, If I do a windows xp repair install and the system has two profiles already installed on it do I lose those profiles? Do I lose Internet explorer cookies after the install? Do I lose Internet explorer cookies after the install? I don't know about the first bit, but by doing a repair install you will lose all files and data on the computer.Quote from: kpac on May 31, 2009, 10:34:16 AM I don't know about the first bit, but by doing a repair install you will lose all files and data on the computer.I'm FAIRLY sure you will lose all profiles too, and a default administrator profile will be CREATED after the repair is DONE.OK I will NEED to do a repair installation of Windowsxp and do not want to lose my stuff in the profiles. Now I have moved all the data in the documents and settings folder for all USERS and for each other user. They are safe on another drive. What I need is also to save the cookies from IE and from Firefox to this other drive. How do I do that? I can't find where they are located. They're not used much except for remembering passwords for sites.Well there is one game I play that holds all the info via a cookie so I don't want to lose that. If you backup everything in the AppData folder to a flash drive, and then paste it back after the re-install, your cookies will still be there. But, you'd be better off backing-up everything before re-installing.Quote from: kpac on May 31, 2009, 11:15:01 AM If you backup everything in the AppData folder to a flash drive, and then paste it back after the re-install, your cookies will still be there.Unless some file is causing troubles, making the OP want to reinstall...so basically back up everything that you would WANT.Quote from: kpac on May 31, 2009, 10:34:16 AM I don't know about the first bit, but by doing a repair install you will lose all files and data on the computer. A Repair Install if done properly does NOT lose any data at all... The Correct Method. |
