Answer» Dear Forum -
I am running VISTA and ESET Smart Security for virus protection. As of tonight, I get an orange warning icon next to the ESET icon. When I click on it, I get the following message: ESET Smart Security 3.0. is on but is reporting its status to WINDOWS Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the manufacturer for an updated version. I have always automatically updated my virus protection, never had any problem, neither with ESET nor Vista. What exactly should I do? Contact the manufacturer? Any sound advice is extremely welcome since I am not exactly a computer wiz, to put it mildly. Thank you, Forum, for your help!!how long is the license of your ESET Smart Security? The license is current, i.e. to be renewed in August 2010.
I just found some advice on the ESET Help page. This seems to be a common problem, which I didn't know (sorry!).
The advice was:
Type "NET STOP WINMGMT /Y", then enter Then type: REN%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\WBEM\REPOSITORY REP.Old Then enter Type "exit" and enter Restart and, voilà, the problem is gone.
ONLY, in my case, after typing the first line in the command prompt window, the access was denied
I think I'll just ignore this ugly orange icon. ESET is apparantly running fine. Only the Windows Security Center is unable to RECOGNIZE this. Oh, well....
Thanks again for helping. I would be so much happier WITHOUT the warning sign.Quote ONLY, in my case, after typing the first line in the command prompt window, the access was denied Open command prompt as administrator. In "START search" type in: cmd Hold CTRL and SHIFT, press Enter. Thanks for helping me getting access. I faithfully typed everything into the command prompt window that ESET TOLD me on their help page, but nothing happened. The warning icon is still showing. Very frustrating. Any other suggestions? Should I just forget about it? Help is greatly appreciated!!!
