Answer» I have my sister-in-laws desk top and it is very slow to load windows. It gets to the windows XP screen pretty fast but spends a more time then it should at the blue welcome screen and once it gets to the desk top it just shows the back ground pic for a few minutes before loading the icons. It is ALSO very noisy when starting up or when starting a new application.
I have blown out all the dust so the inside is CLEAN. I have run virus scans and spyware scans with nothing being found. Could it possibly be the hard drive DIEING and would that cause it to load slowly
The comp is a Compaq Presario running Windows XP SP3, with 960 Mb Ram and a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+

-- End of file - 11596 bytes do you have ccleaner and advanced systemcare , download and run The log looks clean, but there are some Norton's leftovers. Start with Norton Removal Tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Then... Please, post some computer info: - hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
Quote It is also very noisy when starting up or when starting a new application.
It is either the hard drive or power supply. Open the case and try to determine where the sound is coming from. If it is the hard drive, which is what I suspect, start backing up data asap. Do you have an XP CD?THANKS for the responses guys.
Since the comp has had to go back home today I can't do any more on it. I don't remember how much space was on the hard drive. I think it was close to 200 gigs and about 70% was free.
I will see if I can get my nephew to run to Norton tool.
I did manage to get windows to load faster although I don't know why what I did worked.
They only had one profile and when I created another one both profiles would load really fast.
