Solve : Windows Start-up problem?

Answer»

I'm Using windows XP.

When i turn on my computer I get all the way to the Start-up menu, then within 1-2 secs it restarts; rinse and repeat. Then i hit f8 to GO to safe MODE, or last known good setting. When i push up or down on my keyboard it doesnt move, so all i can do is wait and the time runs out. nothing is wrong with my keyboard i couldnt move it up yesterday either, except my computer actually worked. What happened before this started?
What protection do you have?
When was the last time the PC was cleaned?
What kind of keyboard do you have?I'm not sure what happend, last thing i got was a playstation emulator. which i got from a clean site. I also had to get a BIOS file for it too, but thats used only in the Playstation folder.

I'm not sure what could be wrong, im really careful about what i put on my computer. I know my keyboard has nothing to do with it, ive switched and used other ones.

i used spybot search and destroy about a month ago, my computer has ran fine this whole time, up until now.

when i log on i get a message SAYING something along the lines of an update was installed, but i cant see what it is because shuts off by thenYou need more protection than SpyBot...

DLoad, install, update and run the following :

AVG Free
AdAware
AVG Anti-Spyware.

These are all free and will give you a well rounded protection package.

Next i would uninstall the emulator to eliminate it as the culprit and then re-boot and see if the condition still exists.

How old is the machine and what make and wattage rating is the power supply in there ?i cant delete anything ATM, my problem is when i start up my computer it gets all the way to the start menu and all of my icons show up, then 1 secs later the machine completely restarts. and will continue to do so until i turn it off.

its a new computer, im not sure about the wattage, my cousin built it for me. nor do i know how to find that out for you.Look on the power supply inside the machine. It should be labeled with the manufacturer and the wattage. How old is it?Re-boot into safemode if you can...this is done by tapping F8 repeatedly on startup before the windows logo shows.
Once in there go to Control Panel/System/Advanced and Startup and Recovery...un check "automatically restart on errors" which is on by default.
Now when the system encounters a problem you should get the wonderful BSOD...write down any erroro messages and post them here which will help narrow down the problem.Quote from: patio on May 25, 2007, 04:45:23 PM

This would have been time saving info in the beginning...

Repair Install of XP

This will NOT work if you have OEM recovery DISKS...an official MS XP CD is needed.

I suggest reading it through a few times paying special attention to the Warnings and then printing out a copy for reference...

If done properly XP will be fixed and all your programs and data will be intact.i finally got to safe mode i migh tbe good from here, we'll see in a couplewe have the same problem but we can not get into safe mode we tried putting new ram
