There is no option from the F8 menu on startup and if I try to enter from the XP Disc I get to the prompt to enter 1. When booting form the CD, Windows is not active, so it can't be giving you any errors about registry. At my link, there are 37 steps listed. At what point are you getting apparent BSOD?The best way to fix registry errors is by using a registry cleaner software. Registry cleaners are readily available for download on the Internet.
