Solve : Windows Update will not run due to services.msc? |
|
Answer» I ran into a new problem: Microsoft Windows Update can no longer scan for updates because it claims that a vital service has been disabeled. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) I would START the service, however, I see no such service and I donot RECALL disabeling any services, except for WIRELESS Zero Configuration, since I last updated Windows. I will reset and see if that solves the problem..check that the cryptographic service box is ticked...info>http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htmI did locate the option (They translated it..) however, it was set to Manual and now Automatic. Didn't MAKE a difference. Cryptographic Services is set to automatic.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q316524&There is no administrator error. I did not loose any priviliges. Is there ANOTHER reason for posting the article that I may have overlooked? Apparently, enabling Windows Automatic Update caused another service to be re-enabled and it is now working properly. Thank you for your time, Merlin.BITS is part of XP-SP2. Go to: Computer Management-->Services and Applications-->Services BITS should be listed as "manual" or "automatic", not disabled. It was. Enabling and disabling Automatic Updates by right clicking on My Computer - Automatic Updates tab somehow solved it. |
