hello guys, i have some problems here regarding on my win xp.. coz, it was being virus i when i tried to use my anti-virus i still can't get rid of the virus that was in my computer. So, i decided to repair it, but repairing my OS i encountered some errors, such as: could not copy some files during loading the files that need to be copy. but i still continue it coz there is an option given that press "ESC" to escape the file that cannot be copy. After that, when i finished on the loading area for the COPYING of files i am now in the "installing windows" and during the registering of components my pc got hang so i decided to restart it then i go back again to the "Installing windows but now during the "installing of Devices" it still can't continue. can u please tell me why is this so? can i recover my files? what shall i do? please HELP me... ASAP! thnx Your data may be gone...
How did you attempt a repair ? ?

Did it re-boot on it's own ? ?

Is this a genuine XP CD ? ?i repair by inserting the win xp cd... at first it gives an option press enter if you want to install win xp another is that press r to repair and i choose the 1st option.. i press enter and after that it ask another question.. press r if you want to repair win xp or else press ESC to install win xp.. and i choose the 1st option again. i press r in order to repair my OS..

yah, it reboot on it's own. then after it was being restarted thats what happend... yah, my XP cd is genuineThe safest method at this point would be to hook up that drive in another MACHINE as a slave drive and BACKUP all the data you need before proceeding...

Then you can attempt the repair install again.

Repair Install of XP

One reason this may be happening is if you have changed or added any new hardware recently...is this the case ? ?ummm... i have change the memory of my pc because i want it to become faster..... because before its memory is just 256 mb so i buy another memory which 512 mb so it will become faster... Follow what's been suggested so far...you may have gotten the wrong RAM.
