Solve : Windows Upgrading Question?

Answer»

First I'd like to apologize if this question has been asked before, I did a little searching but couldn't find what I was looking for so here I am posting.

I use my computer mainly for gaming, it's an Intel Core i5 750, with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 video card. I also have 2, 2gig memory sticks installed but as I'm on windows home 32 bit only 2.99 is being recognized and used. And this is where my question comes in. I've finally gotten fed up with not being able to use more than 3gig memory and am starting to consider upgrading my OS. But I'm unsure of what to upgrade too, windows xp pro 64 or windows 7 64. Being that I play many games on my computer, old and new I'm concerned with compatibility issues with windows 7 but as I can't find xp pro 64 for less than what I'd pay for 7 (maybe I'm looking in the wrong places) I'm wondering if in the long run it would be better to just go with 7 rather than getting xp pro now and eventually spending more money to upgrade to 7.

Anyways, so my question is for anyone who has experience with xp pro and windows 7 and gaming. What would you recommend I do? Money IS an issue so I'm TRYING to make the BEST choice while keeping my budget in mind.

Thanks in advance!Get Win7.

Will save you money in the long run, some older games will run in compatibility mode, and a lot of new games seem to be dropping support for XP.

Ive been USING windows 7 64bit for gaming since it came out, apart from the odd security issue ive never had a problem. Thank you Laurence for the reply. I've only ever used XP so I'm a little nervous about the switch. I hadn't even thought about compatibility mode.
