Answer» I have a Toshiba Sattelite laptop not even 5 months old I BELIEVE. Its my life Its how I'm getting through high school without it my life is going to be hard because I can't copy notes by hand due to the fact I'd spend 5 hours after school copying over hard copy notes and not getting to anything else but. My notes from school are on my laptop and I didn't back up my files (stupid I know). I know somethings been wrong because I keep getting "Softwrap error1" poping for some time but didn't bother fixing it because someone told me it was okay. Yesterday and today my laptop without even pressing the backspace key kept backing up when I was trying to type up an assignment. I have Norton and Ive viris scanned and defraged it before somehow getting it stuck in a safety mode. I also noticed it all started yesterday when I clicked on the limewire decktop icon it froze up and nothing really worked after. I have uninstalled limewire and than scanned and defraged it all. Can someone please, please help me! I need to get my laptop out of saftey mode. Thanks, vista_hate_meDo these from Safe Mode, if you're stuck there...
1. Run free online scan at: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ The Housecall log is saved to C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\.housecall\log\ Post HouseCall log.
2. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Print these instructions out.
* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation. * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. * If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.) * Close SUPERAntiSpyware.
Restart computer in Safe Mode. To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; pick Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen
* Open SUPERAntiSpyware. * Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button. * Click the Scanning Control tab. * Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked): o Close browsers before scanning. o Scan for tracking cookies. o Terminate memory threats before quarantining. * Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen. * Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. * On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. * On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan. * Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer. * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK". * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next". * A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". 3. Download HijackThis: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hijackthis.html Post HijackThis log.It is spyware for sure now stupid Limewire I didn't know it was spyware I just wanted to download music. I'm going to try those instructions you gave me but because of teh spyware it keeps backing up the PAGE again and again the backspace key is still doing that. After I TRY downloading all that will I be able to get rid of the spyware if I can even get it to download? THANK you so much for your help! Limewire is NOT a spyware. You can, however, get a spyware, and more, if you're not using it carefully. Let me know what you can achieve regarding those programs.I have downloaded only 1 song with Limewire and now I can't get limewire to uninstall and my backspace key completely not functioning so spelling errors please excuse them as I can't really worry about them right now. I'm downloading AVG and doing that first scan you told me to do. My norton is 100% up to date and has detected ONO virirsses or spyware so we;ll swe what I can turn up with all this needless to dsay I"m on dail up so tghis will take awhileQuote I'm downloading AVG and doing that first scan you told me to do. I didn't ask you to download any AVG.Please remember: You can only have one antivirus scanner installed at the same time, or else your computer will crash on start, which, is a potential problem... Uninstall the one you dont want first.
The following will NOT solve the problem, but is a suggestion: BTW: If you must use Limewire, I recommend using Frostwire, which is a Limewire duplicate, and uses the same network as limewire, but, without the text ads, and at a higher/non-limited speed http://www.frostwire.com/
The following might help in the future: Never use file sharing programs for anything more than music and video. Almost all .EXE and other program/archive files will have viruses.
Watching to see if this topic moves in the direction of viruses/spyware... let me know if you want it moved. If this laptop is 5 mos. old i'd be backing up my data and returning it ASAP...QuoteIf this laptop is 5 mos. old i'd be backing up my data and returning it ASAP... Here we go...
