Solve : Windows Vistas XP - Quad Core?

Answer»

I was thinking of getting a Q6700 cpu
I heard that Windows XP does not use all 4 cores and I WOULD have to get Vistas to get the most out of my cpu is that true?In short, Windows XP and Vista does use all the cores. It's the software, not the OS, that will take advantage of the extra cores (unless you have an older OS that can't use more than one core).
Wherever you heard that XP can't use all the cores is lying, simple as that.
Also, I would recommend the Q6600 rather than the Q6700, the latter tends to be a lot more expensive for only a little extra performance.I have the 6600 (had it for almost a year), and consider it to be an excellent machine. I believe most people would be very happy with Vista, and with the 6600, so long as you MAKE sure to get at least 3 gb ram. I agree with an earlier post - to BUY the 6700 INVOLVES a good bit more money for a SOMEWHAT marginal performance increase.Quote

I'm not too sure here...
