Answer» The first thing I noticed was that when I right click on "my computer" and then click on "manage", the computer restarts.
I ran Malwarebytes and spybot and it came up with nothing. Tried to run Kaspersky online scanner but my windows installer service isn't WORKING and it won't let me install the necessary Java plug-ins to run Kaspersky.
I tried running the System File Checker and it SAID, "files that are required for Windows to run properly must be COPIED to the DLL cache" Then System File Checker asked me to insert my Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD, which I don't have because I'm using Windows XP Home Edition. Plus the only CDs I have are factory restore disks that came with the computer. There is no option for a repair install...Well, actually there is a way to do the repair install. You can always borrow an XP CD. It's perfectly legal and it will work - but it needs to be the same version you have installed.
As for the AV, you can download a boot time av (Avira, Avast, Bit Defender, etc), burn it to a cd and run it at boot.I think I'm just GOING to back up and reinstall...
thx anyway
