Answer» Ok when i boot windows ( xp ) on my pc (im posting this from my laptop ) i get a message saying that recent software/hardware changes has caused windows to fail to start , I then get the option to boot normally , safe mode , last known good config etc . None of these work , i get a black screen when i use EITHER of these , i recently disabled my dvd and cd drives(before the problems ), as I was using daemon tools http://www.daemon-tools.cc so i could emulate my drives so i could use a downloaded copy of battlefield 2 , i think this is probably why i cant boot ,can anyone help me , google has been unhelpful ,
many thanks in advanceYou can try a repair install or it could be so FUBAR'ed you need to reinstall everything.

Do you have a real Windows CD?
Personally I think repair installs blow. The only time I go for that is as a last resort to get a chance to recover data. If you don't have any data I wouldn't even BOTHER and just go straight to the format. What you MIGHT wanna try to fix your problem would be a BIOS reset since you were playing with the drives. If that doesn't help what I would recommend doing a system restore from recovery console before throwing in the towel. Possibly even a chkdsk. For instructions on how to do the system restore from recovery console you can just go here:

Just my opinion on the matter, if you'd rather go with GX1_Man's suggestion then go for it but you can always do that after my IDEAS too. At any rate, good luck to ya!We will have to wait for the original poster to return. Many people seem to have "lost" their genuine Windows CD for some reason. I personally feel that a good format and reinstall fixes most Windows problems, at least for a while, but many people resist this while looking for the "easy" button.hi ,ok thanks for the suggestions so far , I finally booted into safe mode with cmd prompt ( it gave me the option of not loading a few files , something like vax537b.exe or something). I did that and ran chkdsk , it deleted a few problem files , one was scan.exe , cannot remember the other one. trying to boot with normal safe mode , so far unsucessful.
how do i run system restore , i have the windows disk.i ran a system restore of windows CDfollowing the instructions from http://www.myfixes.com/articles/system ,when I restarted I recived the following error Isass.exe - System Error
Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: A device atached to the system is not functioning. Error Status 0xc0000001. Please click OK to shutdown the system and reboot into Safe Mode, check the event log for more detailed information. What about backing up your data and reinstalling? Is that a possibility? YOu could have been done by now?
Please recheck the actual name you are reporting. Have a read:
