Answer» Hi there!
I would really appreciate any help with my computer dilemma. I am a complete newbie in terms of computers and somehow managed to implode my father's LAPTOP. It's an HP laptop purchased within the LAST year, with Windows XP O/S. I'm really not sure about any of the other specs of the computer.
The screen froze so I shut down manually, and when I restarted I got the following error "Windows cannot start up because windows/system32/c_437.nls is missing or corrupt". I searched for some advice and tried to replace the file using the XP installation CD, going into Recovery and typing EXPAND -R D:\I386\c_437.nl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls and it would not work, saying that the file did not exist. I also tried EXPAND D:\I386\c_437.nl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls
I really have no idea what these prompts mean and what I could be doing wrong. It seems to be a simple enough problem to fix, is there a step that I am missing?
Thanks so much for your help, Pat
Use this command instead: expand d:\i386\c_437.nl_ c:\windows\system32\
You may want to clean off your XP CD with a lint free cloth beforehand...Thank you so much for the quick response! I will try the command that you suggested!Help! I tried this and the file copied but I'm STILL getting the same error message when I boot up...Try repeating the same step suggested on recovery console. Again...again...You could also refer to this site : http://www.datarecovery.com.sg/data_recovery/troubleshoot_system_files_corruption.htm
