Solve : Windows XP can't see hard drive?

Answer»

Does anyone know how to make Windows XP SP1 recognize a SATA Seagate  250gb hard drive? There may be a few registry hacks to enable LBA, but they may be risky and I wouldn't know where to find them.
The easiest way is to install SP2 - is there a reason why you haven't done so already? You need to install the RAID/SATA drivers for that HDD in order for Windows to pick it up...check your documentation. Quote

Is this XP Professional?

Keep watching Calum.   I've already went into the BIOS for the RAID/SATA and enabled them. I went to Seagate's website and they had a partition SETUP that is supposed to allow Windows to recognize the hard drive. It put a 137GB partition, which also went unnoticed. By the way, this is Windows XP Pro SP1. This is what I already had, and I was kind of hoping I could get it to work before PUTTING money into SP2. I'm beginning to have my doubts though. I'll continue to troubleshoot with this... if anyone can think of anything, I would really appreciate it! Thanks guys! There is no money involved in SP2 it is free from the Mothership.

Enabling it in the BIOS is not the same as installing drivers.Look in the bottom right corner of this page for a free download link from Microsoft.

There is no good reason not to have SP2 on an XP machine.   Quote

Will do, even though I am perhaps a little late . . .
I was bored, so I searched the forum for my name and found this thread . . . I really don't have anything better to do.

Agreed . . . unless . . . you don't think . . . aharr, matey! . . . no, he wouldn't . . .
Seriously, there were a few problems with SP2 when it was first released, but I think most of them have been addressed now.
And it is in fact free.  If you're legal, that is.  SP2 is essential to a good running XP machine...Period end.
