Solve : Windows XP home edition upgrade?

Answer»

If I already have windows XP, but need a disk because the origianal one has been LOST, in order to re-INSTALL it, will a home edition upgrade disk work?
Theres one on best buy for 59 dollars, 30 pounds, which is a good price to pay rather than 50 pounds at my LOCAL PC fixing shop.I highly recommend that purchase...if you don't mind losing that data you COULD upgrade to XPPRO. Quote

What are the changes and benefits of Pro?Better networking support; security features and more Administrator controls are a few that come to mind...

I would be considering the full win XP cd and one with SP2 included.
The thing about using a xp update is .......it looks for the version thats already installed .  for example , if you had Win 98 installed ...... and you ran the Win xp update , it looks for Win 98 ...... and will ask you to insert that cd ...to confirm and then if allows the update it will proceed.
So if you have a Win 98 original cd , then the XP update cd would work ........however you can't use a Win XP update cd to do a format and clean install of XP .

I would be checking this further before you invest in a update cd which probably won't work.

dl65  But if you have a friend with a Win98 CD........
