Solve : Windows XP Home Updates.?

Answer»

Win XP Home SP.2 - Genuine copy.

Am trying to get updates but going round in circles. I went to the updates site and clicked to check the Update History and got the message:
Quote

You have not yet installed updates from this website or by turning on automatic updating on your computer. To select and install updates now, GO to our Home Page."
I do have Auto Updates turned on and it SEEMED to be working as the yellow shield appears in the taskbar. When I shutdown there seems to be always one update installed.

I went to the Home Page and selected Express to get high priority updates. A windows opened with what looks like a PROGRESS bar and "Checking for the latest updates for your computer"

Another window opened with "Software upgrade for some windows components required" Clicked on "Download and Install now"

A third window showed "Updates are being installed now" then "The following updates were not installed Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" My XP has been subjected to the WGA already.

Meantime the yellow shield shows in the taskbar "Updates are ready for your computer" Clicked on it - "The updates are being installed, you can continue....etc." Another window showed "Some updates could not be installed. Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1".

These sequence repeats.

Are these known problems with updates and is there a fix please?

8bamboos resolution should work for you. I received that exact error and after reading on Microsoft's troubleshooting section to do this exact same thing I was finally able to download & install Windows updates. Nice work 8bamboos! you are welcome..... Excellent work 8bamboos, updates are accessible and auto updating is working again. Just gotta find out why the problem raised its ugly head.

Many thanks

V..Thank you soooooo much!!! That worked like magic. 8bamboos your a genious.
My PC was able to download and install 89 of 90 updates (WU has not worked since I re-installed XP SP2 from disc weeks ago). Only Microsoft .NET framework failed to install. Do I need this and if so how do I get it and how do I know what version I need?

Also, I was advised by a friend not to download & install SP3 yet. He said to give it some time to let Microsoft work out any problems with it. Is this right or should I get SP3 also?

Thanks again,

Will this work if you don't have a genuine version of windows xp? Most LIKELY not.
