Answer» Hey guys i am new to this!! But I need help! I have a gateway laptop. MX6441. 2005. Windows xp. And iv been using it fine for 3 months. I have norton virus and spy sweeper on it so i dont htink i have a virus. Now my laptop froze so i turned it over and unlocked it and took the battery off then i put it back on THINKING it woul drestart... because it useally does. nope not this time i get a black screen saying... We apoligze for the inconvience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might of causes this. If your computer stopped rosponding, restarted unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose last known good confiuration to revert to the most recent settings tha tworked. then you can either rebost windows normally or safe mode or go to good last configuaration. i do them all and it restarts shows a bright blue scren VERY shortly then starts up again and goes to the same black screen
some one please help me my email is [email protected] or just write back here thanks Repeatedly tap F8 as the computer is booting to BOOT into safe mode. Then shut down and reboot normally.
If that doesn't work, pop in an XP disc and boot from that, and do a system repair.
Definitely try the first one first. I've had "system repairs" wipe personal data. It blows.
-rocktype the f and b letter key?? or is there a fb key on top of my laptop sorry im bad at computers lol!!
also i read some part of the blue screen it says unbootable driveF-Eight. There should be a line of keys near the top of the keyboard all labeled F+(some number). You should still try tapping the F8 key, but I have a feeling it won't work.
...Because of the Unbootable drive. That's not cool.
Did your computer come with any discs?i bought my laptop from my friend before she went to college in france. she never gave it to me
does unbootable drive mgiht mean i loost alot of my stuff on my harddrive?
and i pressed f8 and i got to windows advanced options menu Safe mode Safe mode with networking Sage mode with commant prompt
Enable boot logging Enable vga mode Last known good config Directory dervices restore mode (windows domain controllers only) Debugging mode Disable automatic restart on system failureGood!
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard (up and down) to highlight "Safe Mode" (it will probably already be highlighted). Then press Enter and hope it boots up. If it does, you can do a number of things, but clicking Start>Shutdown>Restart might be a easy beginning.

P.S. You could also try selecting "Last Known Good Config", that might get it to boot.
p.p.s. Chances are you won't lose data on your hard drive.i click safe mode then it goes please select the operating system to start then i highlightsed windows cp media center edition then i get says muti (0) disk (0) rdisk (partition) drivers in command promp
then iget that awful blue screen again and it turns off then restarts
Do you get this error:
Code: [Select]couldn't open disk multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) NTLDR couldnt open disk multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) Regardless, it sounds like you need to get a hold of an OS disc so that you can do a repair. Ask your friend if they have it, or find someone who does. You need a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center full OS disc.
Until then, there's not a lot I can do. Keep checking this forum for help as I'm not the best help when it comes to booting. My specialty is anything wrong with your computer once it's already started. There are others here who MAY be able to help you more. Also, try selecting "Last Known Good Config" in the menu that you had before. That might work.well turns out that i turned off automatic restart and the blue msg stayed up.. this is what it said the safe mode didnt work but i turned off automatic restart and this time the blue screen stayed up!!! it says...
A problem has been detected and windows has een shut down to prevent damage. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly INSTALLED. If this is a new installation ask your harware or softwares manufavtuer for any windows updates you might ned.
If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software . Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. Of you nreed to use Safe mode to revore or disable components, restart your computer press f3 to select advanced startup options and then select safe mode

Quote P.S. You could also try selecting "Last Known Good Config", that might get it to boot.
Have you tried this? You need to, it could work, especially if the problem stems from a windows update.
-rockokay so i got a bootable windows xp disk and its doing the scan disk now... now i am not home but i left my laptop home scanning ita taking hours so most likely it is fixing my errors because ithink i corupted some of my files. .......... now when this scan is done in mos dos thing ........ do i have to be on my coimputer when its done or is it okay i left it runing the scan and the screen should be there when i get home ( i kept my charger on it)You should be good to go as long as you left it plugged in. Screen should be there when it is done scanning. It might need your input to continue (not sure) so it might not be "done" but it should be fine regardless. Is it a Media Center disc?
