Answer» When I switch on my desktop computer I see the Windows XP screen with the blue dots moving to the right. Then this screen CLEARS and all I get is a blue screen with an hourglass in the centre. No welcome screen appears and nothing further happens.
I may have caused the problem, as after shutting down in the normal way I inadvertantly switched off at the mains just before the computer shut down?
Can anyone help please?I'd give these a shot...
1. When you get to the blue screen with the hourglass does the mouse work? Try a CNTRL+ALT+DEL to see if maybe the CPU is at 100% or something.
2. Hit F8 and get into SAFE mode and see if you get the same problem in safe mode.
3. Try RUNNING a repair installation -- maybe your shutting XP down IMPROPERLY cause corruption.Ignore the above post for now.
Boot to your XP CD and CHOOSE the FIRST repair option. That will take you to the recovery console. Once there, run chkdsk /r
