Solve : Windows XP reports the drive full when it's not even half full and no bad sector?

Answer»

I am trying to move files between drives and/or computers.

When I try to move files between my drives Windows XP reports that the drive is full.  I have a dual core 3 with 250gb hd and I haven't even put 100gb on it.  I have done all the cleanups, etc. and don't have any bad sectors.

I tried to save the file to my ipod and got the same message.  The ipod has 70gb free.  I was going to use it as a flash drive and move the files to another computer.

The (VIDEO) files that I am trying to move are about 4gb.

Look in Disk Management and see what it says about free space, and if there is any unallocted space. Quote from: Broni on August 13, 2008, 06:15:31 PM

It says I have all of the disk available and the REMAINDER free but I didn't notice allocated space; I wil check that.  ThanksActually, you shouldn't have un-allocated space. That could cause lack of space problem.
What is EXACT error message? The message is "cannot copy 'filename':  there is not enough free disk space"How big is the file, or you can't copy any file? Quote

Can you try copying them one at a time (or like in a group of about 100-200mb)Thanks, Carbon. It must be bed time, since I stopped seeing correctly...LOL

I suspect, your hard drive is in FAT32 format. There is 4GB limitation there. The answer.  Thank you mucho! So you got the data transferred? No, but now at LEAST I know why.  I don't have the xp disk (tiger direct didn't include that in the deal) so I'm stuck with the fat32.  I would like to do NTSC but don't have a disk.  Thanks for the info.  I was trying to do files over 4g.You can split those files to parts smaller, than 4GB.
I use GSplit: http://www.gdgsoft.com/gsplit/I can't understand why Tiger Direct would sell the computer with FAT32 on it in the first place.  And then, when I called up to ask what the problem was they told me that they don't support after 30 days.  Really poor service.  I won't be using them again.  I really appreciate the help you guys have given. You're welcome You shouldn't need an XP CD to convert from FAT32 to NTFS...
Tiger Direct will ship you a restore CD however if you yell loud enough.
