Answer» Since Microsoft downloaded XPs2 to my COMPUTER it has slowed right down, taken minutes, instead of seconds to load programs and EVENTUALLY LOCKS up completely. I have run Norton utilities and it has improved the sitution but it is still not running properly. I did not realise XPs2 was the problem until I read an article in an Indian on line magazine. Has anybody else had any problems and is there a cure? Chris WoodYes, better maintain your PC.
Scan for Viruses, Trojan Horses and Spyware.Best cure is to re-install to a partitioned drive using a slipstreamed XPSP2 CD made by merging the core files from your XP CD together with either the 266Mb SP2 download from MS or using the FREE SP2 CD, using AutoStreamer 1·0 to make you an .ISO file from which to burn an up-to-date XPSP2 CD to do your re-installing with.
You'll get a cleaner install that way.
I use an 8192Mb C: drive (8·0Gb) to install to and when all is running as it should make a drive image to use to restore the drive if I should get a virus or drive failure.
If you do this, then you should do so - before - adding any short term trial ware.
