Solve : Windows XP will not start up?

Answer»

After shutting down Compaq laptop and attempting to restart this morning I received a black screen / safe mode options apologizing for the inconvenience and saying windows did not start successfully blaming a hardware/software change.

First I get a XP screen for a second or so.

Next when trying to start normally or any other mode I get a blue screen with instructions that say to turn off COMPUTER or check for hard drive corruption.

I have tried last KNOWN good, safe & start windows normally but am not getting any options except blue screen instructions.

Can I reinstall XP with a CD?

Any help appreciated.Have you tried performing a repair, by using the XP CD?Quote from: tweakmybox on JUNE 17, 2007, 06:52:21 PM

No I have not. Do you suggest this? How do I do it?i think you need an original windows xp cd that should have come with your computer. the computer i BOUGHT didn't really come with it, so you could try borrowing one from someone or obtaining it by other means if you don't have one.

another option could be to try pressing f8 when your computer is booting up and trying safe mode.

there is a way to reinstall windows as well. depending on what version of xp you have you could go to the microsoft website and download the startup disk maker. it'll need about 4-6 formatted floppy's, but they should reinstall windows for you.

i FOUND out this info cause im facing a similar problem Quote from: plzineedhelpbad on June 17, 2007, 07:26:28 PM

My computer comes on in safe mode, but doesn't let me do anything. When I select a option it goes to a blue screen with breif instructions and then returns to safe mode.hmm you could try typing into google what the blue screen says and finding out what causes the blue screen to show up. maybe it might provide insight into what the problem istry to boot into SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT. then run the following command:

CHKDSK C: /F

if it find errors and fixes them, then that could solve your problem!
