Solve : Windows XP will only boot in safe mode? |

Answer» I know a little about computers, but I am stuck on this. I have an old Dell Dimension 8400 stock everything. I was having a PROBLEM such that whenever i would power on, the screen remained black and the fan RAMPED up extremely high requiring me to hold the power button to turn it off. I put FRESH thermal compound b/w the CPU and the heatsink and that doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. However, before I replaced the thermal compound, I tried booting up the computer and I got as far as my desktop screen popping up and my AV software coming up before it FROZE. I have tried repeatedly before and after to reboot and it freezes every time ( a few times it got past the av and still froze). I can boot it up in safe mode without freezing. Could I have possibly deleted some drivers or necessary files for windows? Or does this sound like a hardware problem? THANKS for the help. |
