Solve : Windows98 upgrade to 2KPro? |
|
Answer» Upgraded on Pentium 100 machine that lists hard drive 0 (854MB) and hard drive 1 (811 MB). Before was showing as C: and D: . Formatted C: . Now shows only C: at 854 MB. Tried Partition Manager - No help. I've created a monster of a mess on a machine that doesn't belong to me. Please tell me how to fix!! :-/ Also, in the process I lost the internet connection. Control panel shows only "Make new connection" icon. Wired to Road Runner.Did you format hard drive 1? I believe 98 and 2000 use different filing systems - 98 uses the FAT32 system (or FAT16, but you'd have to be a bit thick to stick with that!) and 2000 uses NTFS.format C: from Command Prompt. D: not recognized by format command. Don't remember some attempts following and then after installing Win2K I used both the CD to Repair Installation and then the Win2K boot disks. Have been TRYING for WEEKS so all the twists and turns of this are confused in my mind. I chose NTFS wherever the option was open. How do I know if hard DISK 0 &1 are physical distinctions or virtual? And how do I reclaim the missing 811 MB?try again>>.http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/win2k/upgradew2k/indexfullpage.htmThank you, but I am already past the point where I can upgrade. Win98 is long gone and I have lost HALF of the hard drive space. I need to reclaim that first. Am I posting under the wrong topic?Quote 1. How do I know if hard disk 0 &1 are physical distinctions or virtual? 1. Look inside the computer. 2. 1600MB or 800MB is not LARGE enough for Win2k. Your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for Win2k. Windows 2000 System Requirements That's the most helpful yet Now, how do I repair the damage and get to a workable system with the full 1600? Thx.Reinstall Win98. |
