Solve : Wireless Network Connection Fails & Fan Runs Fast?

Answer»

I'm running into a strange problem: I'm using a NEW-to-me refurbished computer. It is a HP Compaq with Windows XP Pro and SP3. The computer works great! No problems except when I try to play LotRO (Lord of the Rings Online). The internet connection seems to remain good until I LAUNCH LotRO.

What is going on: Every time I launch LotRO and log into my character I may have one or two minutes and then I receive a connection failure message "The connection to the server has been lost" and the Wireless Network Connection says "acquiring network address".

I'm noticing something else the fan runs way fast and at a high pitched sound when I launch LotRO and other programs like Windows Media Player, Nero, etc.
I'm wondering if the fan is about to go out OR is something running hot causing the fan to work over time?

I've got all the Windows updates installed.

I'm willing to listen and try any advice I can get.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Not the greatest computer but hope I can get it to work out for now:

You are running the laptop with all of this? No wonder... ISOLATE the problem first by unloading system tasks. Have you tried connecting directly by ethernet ports or wired to check the difference? Are you using DHCP or Static Address? While connected to the internet, use command line to post your network configuration and post the result. Click Start and tick Run. Type Cmd and Enter. On command prompt type->ipconfig/all > ipconfig.txt and hit Enter again and a text file naming IPConfig will be saved. Look for the text file on windows explorer, users folder. Copy and Paste them on your next reply. Hold CTRL and hit A to highlight entire text. Right-click, choose Copy then right-click and Paste on the New topic.Using a Desktop not Laptop.

Thanks Jason2074

Edit: BTW I'm not trying to run all programs at once (I think I worded it wrong in my first post) - was just trying to give examples of when I launch a program like Nero, Media Player, LotRO, etc... doesn't matter the program.

Try connecting directly to the ethernet port.I'll try that Jason! Thanks again.

Port Forwarding? I know zero about but trying to learn it now.
