Solve : Wireless Networking Help?

Answer»

Hi Everyone!!

I have a problem and i'm not to familar with networking. I am goign to my fathers in a couple weeks...and i'm taking my desktop computer.

Computer Origninally Windows ME now Windows XP SP2
AMD Athlon 1.3Ghz
32bit

My step mom has a computer that is HOOKED up to broadband internet and my brother has set up a wireless router 108MB for his computer. But they wont let me get on eaither. So i decided i'm going to take my own computer. I'm needing help though on what to get. I can install a PCI CARD or if a wireless adapter is compatable with me than i can easily install those. So if anyone can help me figure out what kind of wireless adapter i could use that would help alot. I like to shop at newegg too.

I know this is probably alot of useless things you don't need to read about but i'm trying to word it all out so that it will be easy for someone to understand and not have very many questions.
For a desktop system probably the easiest solution would be a wireless PCI card.
I've had good luck with both NETGEAR and Linksys, although Linksys tends to be a bit pricier.
Is he going to GIVE you access to the wireless ? ?Cause you'll need that info to connect and configure your card.Double post, check your other one.No Wait Fed ! !

I told him in the other one to check this one...or did i tell myself to check the other one and reply to this one ? ? Or maybe the other one came first ....i'm sooo confused.
I am planning on setting up a wired, two computer network.
Internet connection and printer are all I really need to share.
Do I need a router or is a switch sufficient.
Cost is similar, but the router is a beter long TERM solution. Thanks, I will get a router then.
