Answer» Hello Hi, Why would you suggest a fix for remote execution flaw in printer drivers ? ? This is clearly not the issue here... We don't mind you trying to assist but this is far from the 1st time you have provided questionable advice. High1 you can safely ignore the above Post... On top of that you may be infected...but try Allans advice 1st and REPORT back and we'll go from there... patio.Hello I think that seems to have done it. I ran the Recovery Console and get the following: CHKDSK found and fixed one or more errors on the volume. I then started Windows and double-clicked on Word to open it. It looked as if it wanted me to reinstall Word, but then brought to the fore a document (recovered) that I thought I might have lost as a consequence of the power switch-off. I actually have TWO O/S (Pro and Home). I can't use the Recovery on the Pro edition, because I can't remember the admin password, but thaanks for all your help. SteveGlad it seems to be sorted out. That's a good reason to buy a UPS. Besides battery back in case of power outages they almost always have very good surge protection. And you don't need a big expensive one for most average use, just one that will keep it running for 10-15 minutes. That will keep it running for short power outages or allow you to shut down properly if it seems like the outage will be a longer one. |
