Solve : wrong product key/w2000pro?

dell dimension 3000, cpu celeron 2.4, memory 512, hd 1.6 (old & small)




morning,

the system is a; dell dimension 3000 that saw a bit of water two years ago. using a toothbrush i cleaned the bottom of the motherboard and put it a new battery. the harddrive was bad and so i am replaceing it. it came with xp but i want to use this w2000pro that i have. now the problem, when writing the key down i wrote it out of order.........or something. when installing it says it isn't the right key. after looking over my hand writing and trying other letters i am now trying to see if i can get the product key off of my cd. it that possible.

tazpaigeIf you have the original cd you might be able to call microsoft and get a replacement key for it.

The product key isn't STORED on your install disc, so no that will not be possible.
I also THINK your best bet would be to call Microsoft.
thanks, i will try microsoft, and they may help as they did for the xp that was on the system when it went under for hurricane katrina. rather almost under. they sent all the cd's that were lost. i no longer have the system that the w2000pro came with.

i am 62 and retired and most of the old computers i own have been given to me. i am just trying to work with the different machines. for the w2000 i no longer have the case. the newest machine is the dell and i have the cd's (XP) for it. i guess i will have to use xp or play with 98 or 95. this is the key for the w2000 but i didn't write it down correct.----- ----- ----- -----
