Solve : XP and Vista?

Answer»

Im wondering if i can install both XP and Vista in my Computer?

and if this is possible, what is the effect in the system? is it advisable?

any suggestion pls

thanks in advance
Yes it is possible and there are a number of different ways to accomplish this.
Post all the specs on your system and we'll go from there. You can creat what is called a dual boot. I think that you have to install vista first then xp. When it boots it will ask which of the two you want to load into.Quote from: squall_01 on May 25, 2008, 08:09:25 AM

Squall i don't at this time your expertise includes advice on setting up a dual-boot system...
For example here in this instance you would want to install the older OS first...although this isn't always the case in this instance it would be.
Stick with advising only on the Topics you have had experience and success with so far.

Thanx.
patio.thanks for your advice patio and squall but i dont know understand what dual boot system is? can you explain it in easier way? im still beginner on this. thanks guys

My PC specs:
2.66 GHz processor
1.4GHz of RAM
80 GB of HDD
a dual boot is from what i understand is when you have 2 hard drives (or 1 big hard drive) and you install 1 OS on 1 hard drive and the other OS on the other hard drive or install the OS on 2 different partitions on 1 big hard drive. If 1 big hard drive its just like installing an OS except you keep the current partition and make another one, as for 2 hard drives i dont know. my brother did that for me so the 2 hard drives are separate and are displayed as 2 different hard drives on the explorer, but when i reinstalled XP the hard drives were shared and were shown as one on the explorer Patio I have done this before successfully but didn't care for it an still REALLY don't. You don't need to separate drives just install the one after the other finishes.Quote from: squall_01 on May 25, 2008, 11:58:50 AM

I understand. Please re-read my advice.
Having done it before and not liking it doesn't qualify for the advice portion on how to do it.Settle down children (Patio, Squall)..somehow i find my remark inappropriate =P. Anyways has this advice been helpful to you jhay_e03? hmm this should help a ton

Do you have the CD's for both operating systems? Do you know how to boot to a CD? Have you ever partitioned a HD? IF you need help with the installation, post back and I will help you. What is the capacity of your HD? How much RAM do you have installed?Quote

i have XP pro CD and also bootable (win98 and XP bootable disk.). i have 80 GB HD and 1.448GB of RAM. i have idea on know how to boot to a cd and i already partitioned my HD for backup files. But i don't have Vista CD yet. im just planning to install both Vista and Xp in my Disk.

do you think if i do this in my computer, does the stability of the system remain the same (based on my Specs in previous post) or there has an effect like it will slow the speed of my computer or it will become unstable?

Denzel, I'll read that article later... all your advice were very helpful. and i really appreciate your help guys... thanks to all.
