Solve : XP Boot problem?

Answer»

I am trying to do a clean install of XP on my puter but the disc will not RUN. It runs but nothing comes up on the screen. I got a message earlier saying I have a system32 problem and that something is corrupted. Probably registry problem. How do I get around getting the disc to start? I have done this numerous times but have never had this happen. Thanks for any help.Do you have the CD-Rom as the first to BOOT?

good Luck!

spiderThanks Spider. Yes, I have changed the boot order in the bios but I still can`t get the machine to run the os disc to reformat and reinstall xp. Could it be, somehow, that I need to make a floppy to try to get it started? I`ve never had to resort to that so I`m not sure. It seems that my optical drives are not functioning. Could I be missing the drivers or could they have been corrupted also? Make sure you put the CD in the MASTER DRIVE. It is usually the top one.Or if you do have a working floppy drive DLoad a WinME boot floppy with CDROM support from bootdisk.com.
Use the file to create a bootable floppy...boot to it and you should be good to go.
NOTE: I believe it sets R: as the first CDROM drive so you may have to try a few drive letters

At the A: prompt type R: and hit Enter. If it stays at R: then that's the CD drive...at the R: prompt type setup and hit Enter...the XP setup should now start.
