Solve : XP desktop data loss?

Answer»

XP desktop data loss

Hello all, I have some important lost photos to find.

It all started with a new computer upgrade.

Old computer was running XP with photos on the desktop 1TB drive with partition

The new computer upgrade is running windows  7 with a 2 TB drive no partition

Okay I plug in my old 1TB drive as a extra drive for data only but have no access to

my old windows desktop files at all.

It comes up as with a SIZE of 292 GB in total with 12 GB free that is true.

But when opening the drive to access files there is only  9.13 GB to access.

There was no issues with the old drive while running under XP.

The only hardware I kept on the upgrade was my computer case.

I am missing lots of family photos so any help would be fantastic :]

Hi

When you were booting into XP were you using a logon with password ?. If so the files in your profile will not be visible under windows. You could try parted magic and boot from that CD and use the file manager to browse the drive. Look for the pictures in Documents and settings\"username"\Desktop.

Parted Magic is available from here http://partedmagic.com/doku.phpThank you kindly I will give this a try  Take Ownership of files/folders in XP... Quote from: Lisa_maree on June 14, 2013, 03:10:17 AM
