Solve : XP Home Login Problem? |
|
Answer» Hello All, I have an OEM install of XP Home edition(home built PC) with 1 User(admin) account for logon. Everything thing was normal for bootup until yesterday. Now upon boot up I get the security login window asking for the username and password. I've never set this up and there are no passwords. How should I proceed? Note: I cannot boot into safe mode since it ask for a username and password there too. I also tried last know good configuration and still comes up with the security login window. If this is a home built PC, who installed WinXP? You? Who ever it was, knows the admin account info.Once you have logged in, you can change the way windows logs on by going to user accounts in control panel, and click where it says "change way a user logs on or off" Quote I've tried the blank password with a user name and won't log in. Any other suggestions?? If you are spelling the user name correctly in the logon box, there are two possibilities: 1) Someone logged on to your computer and added a password. 2) A hacker or computer virus logged on to your computer and added a password. You can reinstall Windows, but you will likely lose all of your documents and settings. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx AWOL Again Quote AWOL Again Yep Thanks fellas....I even tried to boot from the XP home and do a 'R' recovery but still wants the Admin password which was never created. So I am perplexed. Note: I installed the OEM version and gave no admin passwordDo you have any data files you need to back up before you reinstall Windows?i've been having exactly the same problem on my laptop, and i know for a fact that noone else has been on it to add/change or do anything else to any passwords. its very strange and ANNOYING! so far, none of the suggested solutions have made any difference, but its very NICE of everyone to be trying! has anyone else come up with any other ideas? oh, and i don't have any files that need backing up, i've done it all already... many thanks!Just another Windows undocumented pleasure. |
