Solve : XP Home question? |
|
Answer» I bought a new version of XP Home off of eBay, and when I received it, I noticed in small print on one side it says: IMHO, anything you buy off of Ebay or any other of those places should come with the slogan..."caviat emptor"... or "buyer beware". Just because the printing is in English doesn't necessarily guarantee that the product will be. The seller has had over 2,600 transactions without a single person leaving negative feedback. That eliminates the buyer beware imo. I still haven't even opened the disc, just asking opinions. With feedback like that, I'm sure it's just fine, but again, just asking opinions. Here's the auction if you're curious: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&item=180021552968&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1Response from seller: Hello! The product you received it 100% GENUINE and legal to use in the USA. It is the Full OEM version and is identical to all the retail versions you could purchase on the shelves at stores like Best Buy. We purchased this product in bulk directly from Microsoft and sometimes they send us things that may be labeled slightly different (like distribution only to certain countries). Microsoft sells these to us when they have a surplus of this product and they have fully authorized the use of these in the USA. Everything is in english and you still can DOWNLOAD all the updates directly through Microsoft (there is no difference). Please feel safe in knowing that both Microsoft & ZTech back your product. Feel free to email us if you have any other questions at all! -ZTechSoftware Well, here goes nothing! Wish me luck. I'll post back with results in a couple days. On the other hand this is $100 less than the apparently identical item shown here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180009255538&ssPageName=MERC_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=180021552968&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=CategoryProximity&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget And this price you got it for is very similar to newegg.com which is guaranteed to be legal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116056 Good luck, and I hope you didn't get screwed looking for a good deal. "The seller has had over 2,600 transactions without a single person leaving negative feedback. That eliminates the buyer beware imo." That's great...although you didn't mention that in your original post. Ditto GX1_Man! Alan <>< If you rely on EBay's rating system for sellers you will still get what you pay for... See my sig. Quote If you rely on EBay's rating system for sellers you will still get what you pay for... Your sig is an image of a PIC stating PAY ATTENTION. Is there supposed to be a link in there somewhere? Perhaps you weren't paying attention when posted it? :-/ Quote Response from seller:eBay sellers never lie... Quote Your sig is an image of a pic stating PAY ATTENTION. Is there supposed to be a link in there somewhere? Perhaps you weren't paying attention when posted it? :-/ That is the message. LOL. Ended up working just fine. Been running it for about 10 days now with no problems. For all the doubters.... Good for you Skizo, have you tried jumping through the Microsoft hoops yet?*quote* "I noticed in small print on one side it says: Licensed for distribution only to specific countries within Middle East and Africa." cover up your neck~ and say ur prayers* well this is an easy fix... Set you time zone to Africa or something and download a good proxie checker...LOL.. And keep the sellers phone# handy for when the feds come knockin on your door... I'd hope it makes it or breaks before the other 48 are SOLD and dude crawls back in his hole over in afganistan or somethin Why pay for illegal copies anyway, You can get those for FREEE |
