Solve : xp media?

Answer»
hello, i have a sony laptop running xp MEDIA edition, the tv tuner has started to malfunction, if i change channels i lose signal ( the message on screen says i may need to adjust the antenna etc ) this is not a fault with the antenna ( i have tried 3 now ). this problem seems to have happened after updates from windows were downloaded. how can i get my tuner working again? You updated your TV tuner software by the use of Windows Updates? Bad idea.

Try reinstalling the program.well, things have now taken a turn for the worse, i now get the following error messages: Explorer Exe-application error, the excepyion unknown software exception(0xc06d007e) occured in the application 0x7c812a56.
when i click the red ok sign another box comes up with this error message:
explorer exe-Application Error, the instruction at 0x6938a7e9 REFERENCED memory at 0x6938a7e9. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate programme.
when i click ok the icons & taskbar dissapear, i am not able to use the pc. the only WAY to switch off is to use the task manager shut down option.
can anyone help?
thanks Since it's been about 4-5 days since your last POST, what have you done. Have you recently downloaded anything that might of harmed your system? What about a system restore to a point before all of this? You may want to boot into safe mode to do this.Quote from: GX1_Man on April 22, 2007, 05:57:31 AM

Yes and restore to about a week ago.hello
i carried out system restore, this has solved all the error messages & i can now use the pc. however the problem still remains that i have lost 4 tv channels ( good ONES had bid tv vanished i would have been very happy ) i cannot think how to get these back, i have tried to re scan for tv channels, but after 2 seconds it just says finished with no change.
the reason for the delay in my replies is that i am working on the pc.

thanks for the advice so far
