Solve : XP portable with no admin account? |
|
Answer» My wife has an Acer Travelmate C310 which has been idle for a while. Now we want to start using it again and add some new SOFTWARE, but it SEEMS that there is no account with admin privileges. The curious details are these: The logon screen displays only one possible account, “NAME_2” where NAME is my wife’s first and last names and this is followed by the “_2” I am able to type in the password and bring up Windows. When I go to User Accounts, this account is the only account listed, and it is listed as “NAME” without the “_2”, and it is a Limited Account, no admin privileges. I have tried booting into Safe Mode, but when I do, the logon screen offers only “NAME” as an account choice, no “Administrator” account, and ALSO not “NAME_2” as appears in the standard boot up logon dialog. However, the account “NAME” accepts the password for “NAME_2”, so I can boot up in Safe Mode just as I can in standard mode. So the important question is, with what I have to work with, is there a WAY to create an admin account. A secondary question is, why is the account name displayed in the standard logon dialog different from the one in the Safe Mode logon dialog and in User Accounts? Thank you for any thoughts. Regards, Davidmcb Here is the user guide in PDF. http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/manuals/acer/0000/userguides/TM_C310_ENG.pdf Is it running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005? If so, you should have made that that clear in you first post. It is not the same as XP that comes on typical laptop PCS. Please look over the manual. |
