Solve : XP Pro on 2 HD's?? |
|
Answer» I have XP PRO on one of the 2 HD's on my machine. It seems sensible to me to have the same o/s on the other drive just in case the main drive fails. If you're only going to put the OS on the other drive, I don't see a great benefit in that. You would still need to re-install all your other software. And, what about all your user files? Technically, yes, you could install Windows on the second hard drive. Since your stated purpose is to have it as a backup in case the main drive fails, this means you'd want that drive to become drive C, right? So, to install Windows on the second drive, you should temporarily reconfigure your drive connections so that the new drive is recognized as C and then install Windows. I believe you should anticipate some obstacles in registering that installation of Windows. It's already been registered once; you may have some explaining to do with Microsoft. But, since it's on the same machine, I'm not sure how about this registration issue.Understood. Since then I've lost the ability to boot to Windows ( a coincidnce if you can believe me?) The os on Drive C was PLAYING up and has now failed. I am now trying to do a repair from the XP Pro CD and have got as far as the Licence agreement . I am given the choice of F8 = I agree , which I want to do, but sod's law will not gvie a response when I hit the F8 KEY. I've tried ALT F8 and EVERY other combo I can think of but it will only resonpnd to the ESC key!! It's not my day. Can u help pleae? Reggie D. P.s. i'm communicating from my laptop. |
