Answer» Hi all,
Please give me some guidance?
My problem is similar to 'josthor', only that beyond his fun bar, the computer shows initially a blank screen, the hard drive kicks in, the screen lights up with nothing on it for approximately 2 mins and then reboots. This will happen all the time.
I have tried to access all of the other operations i.e. Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command prompt and so fourth.
I have even tried to use 'directory services restore mode'. My C:/ Drive is clean and working fine.
When this whole thing happened I was in Windows explorer when I noticed my Internet ICONS were both lit up. I checked my firewall to see what activity was taking place and what program was communicating with the internet. My computer froze at that stage. This is the first time this has happened. I was forced to restart, and the rest is history.
Note: From Previous other experience, this could be a registry problem. I'm not certain if this is the case, HOWEVER any assistance to allow me to get up to the log in would be appreciated.
Is there a by pass boot up that I can use. I do not want to reinstall. Could I use the repair facility (if any) on the xp installation disk?
From command prompt how would I repair the registry if that was a problem?
i'm not understanding you. Is the screen completely blank the whole time it's on? or does it turn blank when it starts loading windows? were you able to see the boot menu for the safe mode options? if it's always blank, i'm going to guess it's some kind of hardware problem. but if it shows text after you turn it on, it's PROBABLY a software problem.ok so i just fixed mine i dont know if this helps you or anything but i used the system restore to restore it to the day before it started, and it worked it BOOTS normal again. hopefully it will STAY like thatdude your OS is most likely screwed. best option will be to install fresh XP on a clean or formatted hard drive. you can try the repair option or upgrade the OS but if those dont work your only option will be to reinstall xp. if it wont do that then youve got a corrupted hard drive.
