when trying to re-install XP I GET the following message

File \i386\KDCOM.DLL COULD not be loaded

The error CODE is 4Here is a little information about error code 4.....

Sounds LIKE a hardware problem.

You can also try to disabled any caching in the bios and do another install.

I search the web for you .
I got some explain of you problem:

  • your memory was damaged.
    try to replace it with aother ,and do install again.
  • you install disk have problem. try another.
  • you hard disk problem.try to set you HDD to raw state and redo the install.
Thanks for the immediate responses, I've tried new memory, cable and HD! and still get the same FAULT! I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago. Turns out the CD drive was dirty and I just swapped it out for a good one.Quote from: marconi0 on August 20, 2008, 03:56:20 PM

haven't you change the install disk?Yes I did try a different install disk, the cd drive was the culprit!

Yes. You wouldn't believe how much hair I pulled out of her computer I wonder how it got in there. Cause that's where the mouse was...I knew, hamsters can get pretty flat, but cats??.....LOLI've seen my grandparents cat go in with the CD.
