Solve : XP SP3??

Answer»

I need to reinstall SP3. I tried to uninstall it first but it won't let me. It went through the procedure and the very last step it "error can't find ..." and canceled.

Can I reinstall SP3 again right over the existing? will it say "You already have this update", is there a work around if it does?Try reinstalling it.
If it does the same thing try re-downloading XP3 because the file you downloaded may have got corrupted. Why do you need to reinstall Service Pack 3? Did you MESS something up with it? Quote

that doesn't explain why you need to reinstall.

Does it still list SP3 in your System properties? If so it's still installed. Quote from: jlexen on July 08, 2009, 05:42:08 PM

Oh, I see...

When you uninstalled, did you follow the steps that Microsoft told you to follow?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249

If so, it seems that a file that was needed to complete the uninstall was not found or corrupted.

Can you please check if you still have SP3 actually running (Start ---> Right-click My Computer ---> Properties, it should tell you on the window that opens up.sheesh let me rephrase this, obviously some of you are mixed up...

I tried to UNINSTALL sp3, I got an error, it wouldn't let me uninstall. I want to know if I can do a REINSTALL without uninstalling it first.

the reason I need to reinstall SP3, I have some missing or corrupted JET files, My Access crashes and all programs that use an access-based file system won't even open, the version of JET I have is only available with installing SP3reinstall the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)

here's a guide:

http://www.technipages.com/reinstalling-mdac-in-xp-sp3.html

see if that helps.

As for SP3 reinstall, not SURE, as you said it encountered an error. Worth a SHOT. (have you tried?)Thanks... I went there and tried that method... no go... I also tried to reinstall SP3 without uninstalling it first, (over TOP) no go... (then later found out that is normal) I'm going to either do a factory OEM reinstall of the XP, or buy an XP cd and start from fresh. (I refuse to upgrade to Vista, I HATE Vista, my system couldn't handle it anyway.)
