Answer» Alright, so since I have some spare time on my hands, I decided to customize my laptop to suite my needs far better.
Basically, I want it to (ideally) triple boot between XP Pro 32-Bit, XP Pro 64-Bit, and Vista ultimate.
I have all THREE OS's.
I have the drivers for Vista from the Toshiba Site, and a package of drivers for XP 32-bit, but I cannot seem to find any 64-bit Drivers for the laptop.
I have a 250GB HD, any suggestions as per the sizes of the partitions? Should I perhaps scrap one of the installs to make more space for my other two?
if I cannot find proper 64-bit drivers for XP, I'll scrap the 64-bit install... Vista Ultimate X64 should be enough for 64-bit computing, if necessary. As far as the drive goes 60/90/90 should serve you well with the smallest for XP 32bit. There are 2 drivers i used on my Vista Ultimate64 bit BUILD that were 64 bit XP drivers and they work fine. As far as finding them check to see if there are any of the manuf. laptop Forums etc. ... This Vista Forum has a driver section that may yield some results. Most apps would only have to be installed on one partition and can be ran as is from each OS...this will save some drive space...i still run plenty of my 32 bit apps from the XP partition in Vista.
Best of Luck...sounds like a fun project.update: successfully slipstreamed XP with the Intel SATA storage Drivers, and installed XP.
I've decided on only 40GB for the 32-bit XP, and might scrap 64-Bit XP, depending on Driver support.
Think I'll install each OS and get all the drivers installed before installing the next one.
looks to me like the Realtek wireless is going to be a PITA to get working with each one.
if I do scrap the XP 64 install, I'll likely USE some of my space to store the 32-bit Programs for each one, via some tweaks to the registry to change the file path for each OS to point to the storage drive; larger programs nothwithstanding (those that copy physically different files based on OS being prime candidates to not be installed this way).
basic purpose? Speed comparisions. The laptop ran beautifully, but it's performance was something to be desired, running at 3/4 the fps speed of my desktop, which is a Single-core 1.6Ghz. Wouldn't be a big deal, if the game in question wasn't the generally "antiquated" Quake 3...
Not too concerned about Vista Drivers, since I know they exist(installed with the machine, after all); not so sure for XP 64 drivers, though.I would think the VistaX64 drivers would run for XPX64...what a perfect opportunity to find out... Alright; I'll do a install just for you
Once I get the drivers for 32-bit set up. networking drivers giving me grief.
Their installs will run, but upon rebooting; no wireless dialog, no "connection unplugged" notifications...
...
now it freezes on boot.
This could be a long experiment I'll be here for ya... heh, I outsmarted those darn drivers.
Just had to install them manually, worked like a charm
Now to get started with the XP64 install. Might have to set SATA to compatibility mode for this one.
Anyways... here goes. Hope I don't hoop my nice XP-32 Install success, for the most part.
Not only did I get 64-Bit XP install, but most of the XP drivers I downloaded contain 64-bit drivers as well.
Just have to get the rest of the drivers properly installed, and then the final hurdle of Vista Ultimate.I think a drum roll is in ORDER here......XP 32-bit, Installed, all drivers. XP 64-bit, Installed, all drivers (except modem)
Vista Ultimate- workin on the driver situation.
All three multi-booting properly.
I think I'll declare this experiment a success
Excellent ! P.S. Don't rely on Ultimate's image backup feature...
