Solve : Windows 98 build number contradiction? |
Answer»

Hi,

I have an old computer with Windows 98 ORIGINAL and ver, dxdiag and getversionex say I have version 4.10.1998, but the System Control Panel applet says I have 4.10.2222 (which I think is for SECOND Edition; I'm not sure if it's supposed to be 2222 or 2222A). When I have the version displayed on the desktop, it also says 4.10.2222.

Why would different parts of the operating system think I have different versions and is there any way to fix it without reinstalling?

ThanksBecause of updates...
If it runs ...forget about it and move on.What kind of updates would change the build number?Quote from: Adam on April 25, 2010, 10:15:50 AM

What kind of updates would change the build number?

Microsoft ones.

Quote
Why would different parts of the operating system think I have different versions

Updates do not replace all files.
