Solve : windows 98+drivers? |
Answer»

I have 98SE installed. I need to be able to install my video card drivers, but Nvidia's drivers from their site say "video card not found."

PC-3GHz P4HT, 1.5GB RAM, 128mb Nvidia FX5200xt.
I'm amazed that 98 is running correctly with that much RAM. Why do you need that much with 98 out of curiosity?

You can go to control panel/system and choose display adapter/ update drivers and direct it to where the files are as an option.Okay, I installed the monitor drivers and then the FX5200, (Nvidia), drivers.
Still is a pain, it says "While initializing device CONFIGMG, Windows Protection error, you may have to reboot."
That happens if I install the drivers, and then I MUST go into Safe Mode and remove it from the Device MANAGER, and then install the VGA.

I need the larger resolution, (1024x768 at least), and at least 256 Color.Check in BIOS and see that the proper option is selected for PCI/AGP. If your BIOS has the option to reset ESCD, give that a try also. It doesn't ALWAYS take on the first reboot so try at least 3 times before deciding it didn't work. If you reformatted, you might need to reload the MB drivers (if you have them).I don't think I need to reload motherboard drivers, (XP MCE and 2000 pro installed perfectly). The fact that both OS's installed has nothing to do with not NEEDING to re-install your MBoard drivers...
Windows could be running generic drivers in their place which could be making the other driver installation hang as it is looking for the correct MBoard drivers in order to load properly...

patio.

| |
