Solve : Windows XP Start Problem? |
Answer»

When I turn on my computer it loads the welcome screen and I click the user symbol to log on. It says 'Loading Personal Settings' as usual. Unfortunately, once the settings have LOADED it immediately says 'Saving Settings' and automatically logs off and back onto the Welcome screen. It doesn't allow me to see the desktop so I cannot change any files.

I tried opening windows in Safe Mode, but its the same, so I can't use System Restore. I have also tried loading the Last Know Config. and it is the same thing.

I had recently run my anti-virus then spyware s&d. The S&D
picked up some adware which it removed then prompted for a reboot, which I did, then I hit my problem.

I do have a boot floppys, but not the product CD and key.

Please help?Use the Windows XP CD-ROM as a boot disc and use the Repair console.Ah - but there is the problem. I do not have the XP CD Rom.You will have to obtain one in case you have to format and reinstall an operating system.maybe your trial time have run out...if you dont register with m$oft....30 days after loaded winxp? No. It been running fine for 1yr+. The PC was given to me as-is. Kind of a hand me down. XP was pre-installed by Dell. Will anyones XP Rom work if I can get the key off of the PC?you need the recovery disks that came with the pc really..have you got something at home like norton go back...or any floppys RELATING to your system at all?< an ebd disk>to try to use another disk can be a nightmare...as your pc is looking for the recovery disks...what happens is most makers of pc writes an image to the hard drive...your hard drive reconizes these and read them....if you use another winxp disk...you will have to format your harddrive and then go though the process of getting a product key from msoft to activate it..You most likely had an OEM version of Windows XP installed. I donot think your activation key (should there have been any) will work on another version of Windows XP.info that may or may not help you>http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/maintain/optimize/erd.mspxSo I tracked down the install CD and product key. I ran the Restore and now I get this ERROR.

the following value in the .SIF file used by Setup is corrupted or missing. value 0 on the line in section (source *censored* file). setup can not continue (press F3 to exit set-up)
How to Repair Windows NT System Files Without a CD-ROM Attached

That is what came up when I searched for your problem..Thanks for the info. I actually do have the CD ROM now and am getting a new set of errors when I try doing the restore (see above).

I might just bite the bullet and try a fresh install.

Any feedback?

Might this be an SP2 issue? installed that Service Pack about 2 weeks before the problem.http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

| |
