Solve : WMPlayer sound distorted.?

Answer»

Hi there. I'm running XP Pro. Intel Core 2 Quad 2.67 GHz CPU. 3 GB RAM. ATI 6850 Graphics card. Motherboard is an EVGA 790SL. I use the Realtek High Definition Digital Audio OUTPUT. When I play .wmv files in Windows Media Player, the sound is distorted. This doesn't happen with any other media player or any other file format - just that combination. I can't remember exactly when this started, but I can't shake it. Any help? Thank you!You could try downloading and installing VLC from here and give it a try. If it is still distorted then we'll know the problem is not with WMP but something else. Some, or many, users have reported unhappy things with the Windows Media Player on Windows XP. That is why download sites offer older versions of Windows Media Player. There does not seem to be a 'FIX' for the WMP problems, except to use another version or another player.
This link has relevant information.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-windows-media-player-replacement.htm
Many like the classic Win Amp.
As I mentioned - I have tried many players... VLC Player is one of them. It worked FINE. WMP plays the sound from the .wmv files louder than other formats and louder than the other media players, but even when I take its volume down, the distortion stays the same. The only reason I make a big DEAL of this is because I'm so used to watching videos on this player. I just wish I could fix this issue and get on with things. Thanks again, guys.is it your sound card? It may be when your volume goes down the sound may be damaged so it sounds distorted. No sound card; it's motherboard sound.

Windows Media Player playing .wmv files = distorted.

Windows Media Player playing other fomats= good.

Other media players playing .wmv files = good.

Other media players playing other formats = good.is the sound in your motherboard loose If it were "loose", it would be "loose" for all players and all formats.Ignore conah 10...You could give this a try.

Please download and run MS Fix-it from here. I tried the fix. A few different things were done, but it didn't affect the problem. Bummer. Thanks you for your time and effort.Last resort. Un install ALL media players you have ever had.
Then load a recent or current version of MS WMP.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/download-windows-media-playerI thought about something drastic like that... I'll have to pass. I have uPlayer and it plays the .wmv files faithfully, so I think I'm just going to have to get used to it.

Again - thanks guys. You have been most helpful and I appreciate your time & effort. So you have two players wanting to open the same file at the same time. A test for THINS is to either use 'open with' or remove the other player.
