You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose between the possible answers.Quantity A: Two pipes C and D can fill a tank in 45 minutes and 30 minutes. If both the pipes are opened together. Then, find the time taken by pipes to fill a tank.Quantity B: 18 minutes1. Quantity A > Quantity B2. Quantity A < Quantity B3. Quantity A ≥ Quantity B4. Quantity A ≤ Quantity B5. Quantity A = Quantity B or No relation.

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 5 : Quantity A = Quantity B or No relation.

Quantity A:

C and D fill a tank in 45 minutes and 30 minutes.

Total capacity of the tank(L.C.M of 45 & 30) = 90 units

Tank filled by the pipe C in 1 minute = 90/45 ⇒ 2 units

Tank filled by the pipe D in 1 minute = 90/30 ⇒ 3 units

Tank filled by C and D in 1 minute = 5 units

5 units are filled in 1 minute.

∴ 90 units are filled in 18 minutes i.e (90/5)

Time taken by pipes to fill a tank is 18 minutes.

Quantity B:

18 minutes

Write a review of the film that won the national award for being the most entertaining film.

Answer»

'Badhaai Ho' wins the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at National Film Awards.

Badhaai Ho just didn't touch upon but went deep into a subject, none of the Bollywood movies has gone before. The director deals with the theme with finesse, putting in measured doses of comedy and drama to make it a truly mass entertainer for the Indian audience. Movies with such content depend highly on the acting and direction part to get them going, and this one just didn't pull through but brought the house down in laughter as well as gave lumpy throats in various scenes. It is hard to pinpoint any one performance at the cost of being unfair to others, but Gajraj Rao's (the father) mute expressions and initial unease while disclosing the news to his family and the discomfort while peers congratulating him, do show semblances with one Rowan Atkinson of Mr Bean fame; deliberate or not, it surely entertains. Surekha Sikri, whenever appears, the audience is already half smiling apprehending another good laugh, and Neena Gupta is as good as she has ever been acting-wise. Sheeba Chaddha as the girl's mother was perfectly cast and Sanya Malhotra, known as the Dangal younger sister, did well in whatever part she got and looked lovely with that hairstyle. Ayushmann's Delhi accent was too good for a Bong like me to pick, his back-to-back hits now following Andhadhun surely puts him at the top now. The director too smartly outwits the audience with the two sequences following the rehearsing scene in front of the mirror. The film also brings back memories of the Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee movies of late 70s and early 80s, which had a similar dramedy flavour to them. Overall, an assured good time watching it, with a positive social message too.

Direction: Given below are two quantities named I and II. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose among the possible answers.A train of 500 meters length can cross completely a platform of 1000 meters length in 5 min. Quantity I: What is the speed of the train in meters per second? Quantity II: A bicycle running in the same direction of the train can pass the train completely in 15 minutes then what was the speed of the bicycle in meters per sec?1. Quantity 1 > Quantity 22. Quantity 1 ≥ Quantity 23. Quantity 1 < Quantity 24. Quantity 1 ≤ Quantity 25. Quantity 1 = Quantity 2

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : Quantity 1 < Quantity 2

Given:

Length of train = 500 m

Length of platform = 1000 m

Time taken to cross a platform = 5 min

Formula :

Distance = Speed × Time

The relative speed of two bodies with speed x m/sec and y m/sec, traveling in the same direction is (x – y) m/sec, where x > y.

Calculation:

Quantity I:

(500 + 1000) = speed of train × 300

⇒ 1500 = speed of train × 300

⇒ speed of train = 5 m/s

Quantity II:

15 minutes = 15 × 60 = 900 sec

Let the speed of the bicycle = x m/sec

Relative speed = (x – 5) m/sec

Distance = Relative speed × Time

500 = 900 × (x – 5)

⇒ 5/9 = x – 5

⇒ x = 5 + 5/9

⇒ x = 50/9 m/sec

⇒ Speed of bicycle = 50/9 m/sec

Quantity I < Quantity II

Directions: Each of the questions given below consists of a question and 2 statements numbered I and II. You have to decide whether the data is sufficient to answer the question. Read both Statements carefully and then answer the questions.Rimpy and Dimpy started from two cities Ahmedabad and Bhopal respectively, traveling at a constant speed, to reach Bhopal and Ahmedabad respectively. At what time will they meet?Statement I. The distance between the two cities is 500 km. Rimpy travels at 50 km / h and Dimpy travels at 25km / h.Statement II. Rimpy started from Ahmedabad at 5:00 am and reached Bhopal at 3:00 pm Dimpy started from Bhopal at 7:00 am and reached Ahmedabad at 7:00 pm.1. The data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.2. The data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.3. The data in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.4. The data in both statements I and II are not sufficient to answer the question.5. The data in both statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : The data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Given:

Distance between the two cities = 500 km

Calculation:

For statement I:

It is not given whether both start simultaneously or not.

Also, no time is given which we can use as a reference for finding the meeting point.

Statement I alone is not sufficient.

For statement II:

Timing is calculated from difference

Rimpy = > 5am - 3 pm = 10 hrs

Dimpy = > 7pm - 7am = 12 hrs

Rimpy and Dimpy take 10 hours and 12 hours respectively to cover Ahmedabad and Bhopal.

Let Distance be D. (Lcm of 10 and 12 = 60 km)

⇒ Rimpy’s speed = 60/10 = 6 km / h

⇒ Dimpy’s speed = 60/12 = 5 km / h

By, 7:00 am Rimpy would have covered 5 × 2 = 10 km

∴ The time when both will meet.

⇒ Remaining Distance / Relative speed

⇒ (60 -  10) / (6 + 5)

⇒ (50) / (11)

⇒ 4.36 hrs

∴ Statement II alone is sufficient.
29.

6 taps having the same capacity and these taps can fill a big container in 126 minutes. How many taps of the same capacity are required to fill up the same container in 42 minutes?1. 22. 43. 184. 7

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : 18

Given:

Number of taps = 6

Time = 126

Formula used:

M1 T1 = M2 T2

Where M and T represents the number of taps and time.

Calculation:

6 × 126 = M2 × 42

⇒ M2 = (6 × 126)/42

⇒ M2 = 18

∴ 18 taps are required to fill a container in 42 minutes.

As the value of time is (1/3)rd of initial value or decreased by 200%, then the number of taps must also increase by 200% of the initial value

Directions: Each of the questions given below consists of a question and 2 statements numbered I and II. You have to decide whether the data is sufficient to answer the question. Read both Statements carefully and then answer the questions.Girija is a ghee trader, he mixes two varieties of ghee in the ratio of 1 : 4. By selling the mixture at Rs. 12 per kg he gets a profit of more than 20%. Is the cost of the dearer variety is more than Rs. 20 per kg?Statement I. The cost of the cheaper variety of ghee mixed is Rs. 14 per kg.Statement II. For every 4 kg of Dearer variety, he adds 1 kg of cheaper variety of ghee.1.

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : The data in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Calculation:

For statement I:

The cost price of the mixture is less than = 12 / 120 × 100

⇒ Rs. 10 per kg.

The quantities of cheaper to dearer could be 1 : 4 or 4 : 1.

Case 1:

Consider 1 : 4

So, x kg of the cheaper is mixed with 4x kg of the dearer.

Let the cost of the dearer variety be Rs. K per kg.

Then, (14x + 4kx) / (x + 4x) < 10

⇒ 4k + 14 < 50

⇒ 4k < 36

⇒ k < 9

Case 2:

Consider 4 : 1

So, 4x kg of the cheaper is mixed with x kg of the dearer.

Then, (kx + 56x) / (x + 4x) < 10

⇒ k + 56 < 50

⇒ k = -6

So, in either case the dearer variety costs less than Rs. 20 per kg.

Statement I alone is sufficient.

Let the cost of the cheaper variety be Rs. Y and dearer variety be Rs. Z per kg.

Let the quantities of the cheaper and dearer varieties be x and 4x respectively

⇒ Given, (yx + 4zx) / 5x < 10

⇒ y + 4z < 50

Since, y > 0

⇒ 4z < 50

⇒ z < 12.5

So, the dearer variety costs less than Rs. 20 per kg.

∴ Statement II alone is sufficient.

Directions: Each of the questions given below consists of a question and 2 statements numbered I and II. You have to decide whether the data is sufficient to answer the question. Read both Statements carefully and then answer the questions.During 2017, 2018, and 2019 the profits of Idea company changed by what percent from 2018 to 2019?Statement I. The increase in profits of Idea Company from the year 2017 to the year 2018 was the same as the increase from the year 2017 to 2019.Statement II. For Idea company the profits for the year 2017 were Rs. 20,000 crore and the profits for the year 2019 were Rs. 21,000 crores.1.

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 1 : The data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Calculation:

For statement I:

The increase in profits was the same from the year 2017 to 2018 as from the year 2017 to 2019. This statement is tricky. At the first moment after watching, it appears insufficient but a careful analysis shows that this information proves that there was no change could be the same from the year 2017 to the year 2018 as from the year 2017 to year the 2019 is with a zero percentage change from the year 2018 to 2019.

Statement I alone is sufficient.

The profits in the year 2017 were Rs. 20,000 crore and in the year 2019 were Rs. 21000 crore.

So, the increase in profits from the year 2017 to 2019 = (21000 - 20000) = 1000 crore.

We can calculate the percentage gain from the year 2017 to year 2019.

But it is not possible to know how much of this increase occurred between the years 2018 to 2019 as profit data for the year 2018 is not given.

∴ Statement II alone is not sufficient.

An empty tank is filled with a pipe. Pipe takes 3 hours to fill a (1/4)th of the tank. How much more time will be required by pipe to fill the container?1. 5 hours2. 9 hours3. 4 hours4. 12 hours

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : 9 hours

Given:

(1/4)th of the tank fills in 3 hours

Calculation:

Remaining portion of a tank = 1 – (1/4)

= 3/4

(1/4)th of a tank = 3 hours

Full container fill = 3 × 4

⇒ 12 hours

(3/4)th tank fills = 12 × (3/4)

⇒ 9 hours

∴ 9 hours more required by pipe to fill the tank.

Name the law used to give the direction of force on a current carrying conductor in a magnetic field. State this law.

Answer»

The Fleming’s left-hand rule gives the direction of force experienced by current carrying conductor placed in an external magnetic field.

Fleming’s left hand rule:

When an electric current passes through a straight wire, an external magnetic field is applied across that flow, the wire experiences a force perpendicular to both, the field and to the direction of the current flow. It states that, if a left hand is held, so that thumb, first finger and second finger are held mutually perpendicular to each other. The thumb represents the direction of motion resulting from the force on the conductor. The first finger represents the direction of the magnetic field. Then, the second finger represents the direction of the current.

Identify the law which is stated as: “For any solution, the partial vapour pressure of each volatile component in the solution is directly proportional to its mole fraction.” (a) Henry’s law (b) Raoult’s law (c) Dalton’s law (d) Gay-Lussac's Law

Answer»

Correct answer is (b) Raoult’s law

For any solution, the partial vapour pressure of each volatile component in the solution is directly proportional to its mole fraction.

p ∝ x

p = p° x

where p = partial vapour pressure,

p° = Vapour pressure of pure component.

 x = mole fraction

Answer is (b) Raoult’s law

43.

Which of the following is a non-stoichiometric defect? (a) Frenkel defect (b) Schottky defect (c) metal deficiency defect (d) interstitial defect

Answer»

Answer is (c) metal deficiency defect (anion is missing from lattice site)

In Frenkel defect the smaller ion occupies the interstitial sites and Schottky defect equal number of cations and anions are missing. Interstitial defect an atom or molecule occupies intestinal sites so in these three defects the ratio of positive and negative ions (Stoichiometric) of a solid is not disturbed in these three

What are the values of n, l, m and s for 3px electron?(a) 3, 2, 1,0 (b) 3, 1,-1, +\(\frac{1}{2}\) (c) 3, 2, +1, – \(\frac{1}{2}\)(d) 3, 0, 0,  +\(\frac{1}{2}\)

Answer»

Correct answer is  (b) 3, 1,-1, +\(\frac {1}{2}\)

3px electron; n = 3 (main shell)

for px orbital, l = 1, m = -1, s = \(\frac {1}{2}\)

Which of the following statements is true: (a) Melting point of Phosphorous is less than that of Nitrogen (b) N2 is highly reactive while P4 is inert (c) Nitrogen shows higher tendency of catenation than P (d) N-N is weaker than P-P

Answer»

Answer is (d) N-N is weaker than P-P

other statements as incorrect as Phosphorus has a higher melting point due to bigger size than Nitrogen. Nitrogen is inert due to formation of triple bonds and has a lower covalence due to non - availability of d – orbitals

46.

Which of the following statements is incorrect in relation to ionization enthalpy? (a) Ionization enthalpy increases for each successive electron.(b) The greatest increase in ionization enthalpy is experienced on removal of electrons from core noble gas configuration. (c) End of valence electrons is marked by a big jump in ionization enthalpy. (d) Removal of electron from orbitals bearing lower n value is easier than from orbital having high n value.

Answer»

(d) Removal of electron from orbitals bearing lower n value is easier than from orbital having high n value.
