Solve : Did a big company hack my email???? |
Answer» Ok, this is what happened. I had a yahoo email account/start page for years and the otherday my wife got an email that looked like it came from my yahoo email account. http://www.gvrd.com/canadian_online_pharmacy_scam/index.htmlI don't know anything more other that what is in the link above. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 17, 2011, 02:33:50 PM I don't know anything more other that what is in the link above. Thanks, that looks like what happened..I must admit that I HAD been real sloppy with my internet info in the past but that won't happen again.... And, after doing some RESEARCH and just opening my eyes I realize that the internet spends lots of time watching me while I am looking at it.I'd advise running full scans with anti virus and Malwarebytes Anti-MALWARE. A lot of viruses do this sort of thing.Get another e-mail address. Give it out to associates who are wise and trustworthy.Looking like it came from you and being from you are 2 very different things... You only need to insert 1 character in a spoofed email addy and 98% of people would not catch it... Quote from: kpac on April 17, 2011, 03:58:08 PM I'd advise running full scans with anti virus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. A lot of viruses do this sort of thing.I ran a panda scan , malware, and MIcro trend house call. Nothing came up. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 17, 2011, 04:01:20 PM Get another e-mail address. Give it out to associates who are wise and trustworthy.I did that and lots more. Thanks!I wouldn't be overly concerned. I have 8 or 10 email accounts (business and personal) and every once in a while I'll get a spam from one of those accounts. Nothing viral, just an ad. Your email address is obviously not private and spoofing an email address couldn't be easier. Quote from: patio on April 17, 2011, 04:30:03 PM Looking like it came from you and being from you are 2 very different things...I will never know that one because we dumped the email.. I am done with it...hopefully. Bottomline..if it happens again I am one of those people that will shoot holes in all my computers and go on with my life. Thanks again. Quote from: milo on April 17, 2011, 04:50:56 PM ..if it happens again I am one of those people that will shoot holes in all my computers and go on with my life.Really, that is what might have to do. Identity theft is a crime that is not quite understood. It one of the few crimes, if not the only one, were the victim is always guilty and can not prove his innocence because the Banks and Credit Card firms es are in conclusion* with the criminals. E-mail spoofing can be a stepping stone to bigger things. The Chase Bank spoofs were so widespread that the Bank had to go public and warn people. It was out of control. *Collusion. This the term might be hard to clarify. But it means just what you think in means in this context. If you want protection from your Credit Card company, you have to ask for it. Really. Not a joke. In the USA you have to ask for it. Failure to do so you thus are giving them the opportunity to work with the criminals. That is, in effect, collusion. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 17, 2011, 05:39:17 PM Really, that is what might have to do. We're talking about E-mail headers being spoofed or E-mail accounts being accessed. Not banking or financial sites. Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 17, 2011, 05:57:42 PM We're talking about E-mail headers being spoofed or E-mail accounts being accessed. Are you sure? Really sure? My research indicates HUNDREDS of references that put them together. Are you saying: Bombs are not related to terrorists. Hygiene is not related to disease. Water has nothing to due with famine. Or maybe, guns don't kill people? Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 17, 2011, 07:09:56 PM Are you saying: All true. Correlation does not imply causation. -Bombs/dynamite are used in mining operations. following your logic all miners are terrorists. -hygiene isn't related to disease, but germs/bacteria/viruses are, and good hygiene tends to eliminate that from the equation. Having good or bad hygiene doesn't mean you will or will not get sick.' -while a drought, if long enough, will cause a famine, so too can lack of arable land and early frosts, regardless of the water supply. -Guns don't kill people without somebody using it. It's like saying that shovels dig holes. They don't, people dig holes using shovels, and you don't need a shovel to dig a hole; it just makes it easier. Same story for firearms. Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 18, 2011, 03:56:55 AM -Guns don't kill people without somebody using it. It's like saying that shovels dig holes. They don't, people dig holes using shovels, and you don't need a shovel to dig a hole; it just makes it easier. Same story for firearms. Are you are lawyer, by any chance, BC? |

Solve : Asus PadFone versus Apple iPad and iPhone? |
Answer» Recently, Nathan posted a link to Asus' new PadFone.... Yeah. I think they on onto something. All-in-one. You're never gonna let go of that...are ya ? ? Quote from: patio on March 18, 2012, 07:49:19 PM You're never gonna let go of that...are ya ? ?No, patio. I won't quit. A PC is a personal computer, emphasis on personal. The more personal nit is, the more it is a PC. From the beginning the PC was a communication device, not a calculator. The ability to print documents and transmit data over phone lines was more IMPORTANT than grinding astronomical data. What made the PC what it is was its ability to interface with people using a communication format people can understand. Very, very few early hobbyists really programmed their computers in binary. Instead they wrote games in BASIC and posted them BBS. It was a form of social communication and interaction with people. The machine were just the tools that let people entertain each other. Now you can carry a device with you to take phone calls, get voice mail, get e-mail, send text, check your stocks while you ride the bus, Buy flowers for a friend, watch a movie, order pizza and check your date book with a device you can carry in your pocket. Desktop PCs are no longer well suited for the things people want. They want more effective power,** portability and predictable cost-of-ownership. The item described in this topic is the PC people really want. Up to now, a doable laptop always lacked something. **Here effective power is not a benchmark made by a math professor. Effective power for a personal device means you get more done in a set amount of time without fiddling and fooling around with endless menus and options. |

Solve : New year, OpenBSD? |
Answer» This is from Inforworld. ... Project founder THEO de Raadt created OpenBSD in 1995 as a more secure and open alternative to NetBSD and Linux. De Raadt and his project team are legendary in their pursuit of openness and security. They worked hard to scrub every proprietary and non-open piece of source CODE out of the kernel. The name OpenBSD comes from the fact that its source code can easily be examined on the Web or by using other tools. Open also means that it SUPPORTS many platforms, including I386, Alpha, HP, Mac (both Motorola and iMac chipsets), Vax, Sparc, and SGI. ... Yeah, it was really an old post. Had to get your attention somehow. But if you are new or still young and have not tried BSD, why not take a look. Here is where to start, if you want to try it. http://www.openbsd.org/ Or maybe you want an easy read. OK. Can do. Some relevant links about BSD to prove it is more secure than Linux. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeBSD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenBSD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenBSD_security_features If you plan to work in IT, you should at least know something about BSD. Especially how they do security. |

Solve : What the future holds? |
Answer» While many of us may have had our suspicions about the pervasiveness of this phenomenon this should end any doubt. While this deals with one company i am certain it is not only the practice of this company but is endemic throughout the corporate structure. One would be wise to determine where the influence of this company culture exists in their own country as a direct result of current office holders and their past association with the named firm. For instance Canada's current Governor of the Bank of Canada was a past executive of this firm and is as well the recently appointed head of a very influential International financial body. So what did the guy do, exactly?I can imagine you watching TV, searching for a good channel and saying this in a really off-hand manner.... If you are serious, you obviously haven't read the article... basically Greg Smith, former Goldman Sachs exec director (he wrote the article right after leaving), criticizes the well, rather psychopathic atmosphere that has come to stay at such investment, banking, and securities corporations in which the sole objective is the client's wallet. The "advisors" are basically conmen who think about the company's profit first, not the individual's welfare. And he writes a pretty long essay detailing such business practices. EDIT: An hour ago: http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/goldman-sachs-loses-market-value-after-searing-greg-smith-essay/2012/03/15/gIQAn686DS_story.html?tid=pm_business_popAh, I thought there was more to it. Bankers do this all the time, why did this come as such a SHOCK? Further what does this say re the industry's attitude towards the revelation "One employee at Bank of AMERICA Corp.’s Merrill Lynch division, a competitor to Goldman Sachs, said his team was told not to send copies to clients." Based on the well established principal that ignorance is bliss or if we don't acknowledge it then it SIMPLY doesn't exist. truenorth "Ah, I thought there was more to it" It would be interesting to KNOW exactly how MUCH MORE you think there could BE to it? Quote from: Raptor on March 15, 2012, 11:27:25 AM Ah, I thought there was more to it. Bankers do this all the time, why did this come as such a shock? Ignorance of it and a general acceptance when it happens are the main reasons these people get away with it.I do my banking with Triodos. Quote Triodos is unusual as it only lends to businesses and charities judged to be of social or ecological benefit. This "positive screening" extends its policies beyond those of ethical banks which solely avoid investing in companies judged to be doing harm ("negative screening"). The Bank uses money deposited by close to 100,000 savers and lends it to hundreds of organisations, such as fair trade initiatives, organic farms and social enterprises.Raptor, Very commendable of you to take such a personally responsible socially conscious approach to your own financial affairs. However i am sure that you can extrapolate that because you and others of the same inclination for a variety of factors are a small minority that your impact on the global financial environment is limited. The simple fact is that because of the existence of such a predominance of the greed and predatory nature of the financial industry as related by Mr. Smith you and others like you do suffer the negativity that is CREATED by the behavior of companies such as Goldman Sachs essentially to the same degree as the rest of us. Their impact is just too great for any individual regardless of their own habits to avoid it's impact. As a further comment to my original post now that a period of time has past since the revelations of Mr. Smith is. How many jurisdictions where this company does business have used instruments of investigative agencies and regulatory agencies to call Mr. Smith before them to ascertain the specifics of his allegations so as to prepare their actions against this company's practices? And if as i suspect the answer is NONE then what does that tell us? truenorth |

Solve : How long have you been on the forum? |
Answer» I was just perusing my user statistics and noticed that I've spent a total of 29 days, 18 hours and 29 minutes on the CH forums, in the 3.3 year's I've been here. How long has everyone else been on the forums?76 days, 11 hours and 50 minutes during the 6 years 1 month since I registered on the forum. Must you remind me how much of a real life I don't have! Keep in mind that individual habits regarding forum login can substantially affect the stats regarding time spent on the forum. Some folks may tend to login just long enough to post and then logout while others may login and remain logged in for a lengthy time even if not actively perusing the forum. And, many users may fall somewhere between these extremes. I believe SMF logs ACTIVITY time...as opposed to login time in it's cumulative #'s... Quote from: patio on February 28, 2012, 02:30:27 PM I believe SMF logs activity time...as opposed to login time in it's cumulative #'s...What is the difference between "activity time" and "login time"? Quote from: soybean on February 28, 2012, 04:11:44 PM What is the difference between "activity time" and "login time"? The maximum the time will go up is 15 minutes after your last action. If you post a reply, and stay logged in for 45 minutes but don't do anything on the forum (browse around, etc) that will only add 15 minutes to your total time. After 15 minutes, it assumes you left and doesn't count that towards the total time. (I'm not sure if the session expires at that point, or what). |

Solve : DANGER: Wi-Fi honeypots? |
Answer» Not news. So it was put here in other. Five ways to protect yourself from Wi-Fi honeypotsDo you believe this? Really? Quote from: Geek-9pm on March 11, 2012, 09:07:17 AM Do you believe this? Really? Do you ?No. Maybe it did happen once. But it is not a real threat. Lmao. Quote the Nyan Cat kitten flying through space.Quote from: Geek-9pm on March 11, 2012, 09:07:17 AM But is it realy as bad as this guy says?Do you believe this? Really? I don't. Or, rather, I think the circumstances where it is a danger are extreme, and the symptoms described not accurate. Most devices SEEM to be configured to connect to the highest signal network. However, none that I have used will indiscriminately connect to a unsecured network that has a higher signal strength unless you have already connected to that same access point. This setting, of course, can be overridden. So if a lot of devices' users' have overridden the defaults so that their devices will indiscrimately connect to any Access point that has a better signal strength than what they are connected to, it will have that effect. The SECOND point is that it cannot "disrupt wifi networks" by virtue of the disruption being the devices stupidly connecting to an unsecured access point and (also stupidly) trusting it blindly; I can't say I have extensive experience with mobile devices and wifi, but I certainly hope they have the basic precautions that any desktop OS has with regards to wireless security; windows and most Linux environments will warn you when you connect to an insecure access point, and at no point will they connect to a access point unless you have configured it to do so. My limited experience with smartphones and a few other mobile devices that support Wifi don't lead me to conclude otherwise. I guess if one access point is unsecured but has the same ssid as another secured access point that a device is configured to connect to automatically, the unsecured equivalent might end up being connected to if it has a higher signal strength, but I'm not certain. Of course if the person performing the "hack" had knowledge of the MAC addresses and ssid's of the access points (easy enough to obtain) he could easily configure his to "emulate" that device, making it a crapshoot for most devices, who connect to a given access point but are in fact associating with two. (And it would need to be properly configured (the fake access point) so that it doesn't cause duplicate responses which would typically cause a wifi driver to panic and disassociate). The article SORT of overplays the significance and the effect. If it was in fact configured to do what I note (which is implied by the "designed to impersonate wifi networks) than there are two things: for one, that requires special software; for another, I'm pretty sure that is illegal. |

Answer» Not sure if any of you, out there, have a job in RETAIL...but, just wanted to vent a bit. Don't worry 'bout the slackers...keep out doing them...even if it's for personal gratification. Will do buddy...at least until this frame of mine gives up. The mind says, "...sure you can"...while the body says, "Aww, *censored* no!" Quote from: reddevilggg on February 21, 2012, 12:09:00 PM I think its because 'retail' is not a career option for alot of people. It's more of a stop gap. Although, a lot young people do have this attitude. Was definitely NOT a career option...just "convenient".If you're suggesting that the "younger generation" has been raised to feel entitled, I don't think you'll get much of an argument. Quote from: Allan on February 21, 2012, 12:14:09 PM If you're suggesting that the "younger generation" has been raised to feel entitled, I don't think you'll get much of an argument. I like this...and "yes"...I am.I've been working a minimum wage job at a local restaurant for just over a year now and I don't actually mind it that much. It's a lot more physical work than I originally expected, but now that I've gotten used to LIFTING bucketfuls of dishes I have really come to appreciate how hard people work. I really don't want to grow up to be a "I'm here, now when's my break and paycheck coming?" guy, so I really try my best to work the hardest I can at everything I do. Solve : The Amazing Shrinking Personal Computer.? |
Answer» This is off topic! The Amazing Shrinking Personal Computer. Better I put this here. It is not news until there is a dead body. Son there will be dead bodies, METAPHORICALLY speaking. Now mobile computer devices are killing the desktop and laptop personal computers. In fact, the newer gadgets are really much more personal. Many PEOPLE use them as communicators and as PDA. But they really are computers and do what computers do. Anyway, here are some recent headlines. Quote Tablet PC Comparison News: IPad Outsells PCs | presentations ...I am not making this up. This is what other people are saying. In the future, like maybe this year, a PC will be defined as something you can carry in a coat pocket, not a briefcase. EDIT link Comments? All of those devices require a PC to do things like update firmware, I believe. So clearly they aren't completely emancipated. Heck iPads, iPhones, etc are all but useless without a PC to connect them to. I don't even think you can charge those without a PC, which is a pointless limitation. (though the iPad itself is fairly limited in what you can do without a PC in a lot of ways as well. And even when you do you have to use a specific piece of software to transfer files or perform upgrades to the system. Quote from: BC_Programmer on February 06, 2012, 06:27:22 AM I don't even think you can charge those without a PC ...That's not true. Reference: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060 It's functionality and capabilities are still limited if you don't have a PC to interoperate with. Basically they aren't even designed to replace a desktop or laptop anyway. One could argue that they are, but only for simple tasks like web browsing and E-mail, but they suck at both of those (dreadfully slow page rendering and awful support for modern web standards) and they aren't aimed to do that anyway. They facilitate PCs. They do not replace them. They facilitate PCs. They do not replace them.I don't have one but I have at least two or more relatives who have them and I suspect they'd disagree with you. But, I have only briefly seen an iPad in use and can't refute what you're saying. Still, I'm skeptical. For one thing, I did briefly see some web viewing and it did not seem "dreadfully slow", but, again, this was a very brief exposure to an iPad. I have a smartphone, and it is not "dreadfully slow" at web browsing or email. It is actually the best phone I have had since I've been buying phones. I do agree however it is not a replacement for a PC, and never will be.They aren't PC's... Geek can use all the 30 year old references he cares to but in my opinion they are NOT PC's... Do they offer some of the functions of a PC ? ? Yes. Does this make them PC's ? ? No.I recall the early 2000's when they were hyping up smartphones to be the next best thing and stated that we'd have hologram keybords soon. Never happened. I tried using a PDA for my daily chores, appointments and whatnot and everyone thought I was the delivery man. All I can see is that I appreciate devices that require no electricity or Windows licenses more by the year. It's important that you decide when and where you want to be "connected". Having a device on you at all times just gives people PRETEXT to harass you with silly notions of modernism. I hate "gadgets".I love gadgets. Except TV remote controls. Here is a rant I missed from PC World. Quote http://www.pcworld.com/article/249313/smartphone_sales_boom_who_needs_a_laptop.htmlHow would you be able to participate here on a smartphone if you're convinced they have replaced PC's ? ? What speech to text apps do they have currently that even come close to working ? ? Quote from: patio on February 06, 2012, 05:36:53 PM How would you be able to participate here on a smartphone if you're convinced they have replaced PC's ? ?You got me! For one thing, I did briefly see some web viewing and it did not seem "dreadfully slow", but, again, this was a very brief exposure to an iPad. I said it was slow. Not completely unusable. If somebody is willing to drop several hundred dollars on an iPad I doubt they are going to be as open to noticing it's various flaws, particularly since if they bought it in the first place they are already a lost cause as far as being reasonable is concerned anyway. My Windows 98SE machine browses faster and more correctly than any smartphone or iPad I've used. It has a 133Mhz Pentium processor. Why? This makes no sense. Web browsing is one of the primary purposes of the devices and they can't even seem to get that right. And even if it is "fast" (or rather, if the person using it determines that it's fast enough, it's never as fast as your average desktop computer) it's still going to look like crap because very few phones and tablet have browsers that work properly. The ironic bit is behind all the bells and whistles "smartphones" are misnamed, since their ability to act as a phone is hardly ever utilized by anybody. People are more intent to "text" each other at exorbinant rates and act as if this is the "future" when all they are doing is the equivalent of IRC, difference being that they pay for every message they send- and receive- rather then a hourly rate or a flat monthly fee. It's profiteering, plain and simple, and the fact that so many people buy into this crap, regard it as "hip and cool" and happily pay the ridiculous fees attached to simply swapping ascii text is just plain sad. Truly, the demographic for smartphones, ipads, ipods, itouch's, whatever is simple. They are devices designed to be as efficient as possible at separating hipster trash from their parents money. Sort of like Alienware machines. You can tell when something has this purpose if all you can choose is the colour. Solve : Computers and part price drop?? |
Answer» Yeah, this is offs topic. Nobody wants to make a solid prediction. According to the Thailand Business Report, the recent record floods in Thailand have caused a 20% increase in prices for hard disk drives (HDD). IDC is forecasting that there will be a 25-28% shortfall. SSD drives can be expected to meet some of the demand. Are you going to wait? If not, why not? Quote from: Geek-9pm on January 15, 2012, 03:51:19 PM Are you going to wait? What are we supposed to be or not be waiting on? Quote from: mroilfield on January 15, 2012, 10:24:20 PM What are we supposed to be or not be waiting on?Will you wait for prices to drop before you build/buy your next PC? OR Will you start building a stockpile before pries rise and save some money on the next project. OR Just do nothing. When the times comes buy what you need and not fret over slight changes in prices. But you have to make a decision now! If it is between November and January I will watch the prices to see what happens. Any other time of the year I just buy it as long as I can afford it.Meh, if I need parts, I need parts.Ditto... BTW the HDD plants are back to 90% production...I built my desktop around three years ago (could find the build post I made to find out exactly how long it was but meh). I bought this laptop before that (Feb 2008). I've yet to have problems with either of them or feel that I need to build another PC. Not to mention, the point of a new build would typically be to use the latest and GREATEST components; i7/i5 wasn't yet available when I made this build, for example; nor was USB 3, or various other things. Stockpiling components because they are cheap would be pointless by virtue of you not getting the latest and greatest when you dig those stockpiled components and make a build out of them. If you want to make a new build, you buy new components- if prices are too high, you wait. For me, I paid a good 1000$ on this build and I intent to get my moneys worth, not throw another thousand dollars away on another build that won't actually make that big of a difference aside from a clean OS install. Or bragging rights- "Hey look at me I have a i7 i5 whatever" yeah, I don't care what my processor is and I don't care what people think about me using a "lowly" Q8200 with "SLOW" DDR2, because as far as I'm concerned it's still blazing fast for me. |

Solve : Can I find a cheap Cell Phone Plan?? |
Answer» Can I find a cheap Cell Phone Plan? Geek, Before you make a commitment (buy something) check out how the plan deals with carry forward issues. Our son decided that my wife and i needed to provide our family with more peace of mind and this past Christmas provided us with a "pay as you go" cellphone" . Personally i detest those things. It had an initial $20.00 worth of time on it. Upon investigation it was determined that if we did not add the minimum (in this case $10.00) by the 27th of the month we would lose any remaining amount from the previous month and if we did not do something by 6 months we would lose the service of the phone.truenothT-Mobile's pay-as-you-go service is good. If you run out of minutes, you don't lose the account, you simply can't make more calls until you pay for more minutes. And, they allow long periods of time to use your purchased minutes and, if the time period has expired and you still have some unused minutes, they normally allow carryover of those unused minutes if you purchase more minutes within a short time frame. That's been my experience; I usually purchase 460 or 1000 minutes at a time and, with those larger purchases, have up to a year to use the minutes. Wow! I must say you folks in the US get a bad deal compared with us in the UK. I have a pay-as-you-go phone with Virgin Mobile - I pay 26 pence per minute to UK cell phones and landlines (about 40 US cents) and text messages cost 10 pence (about 15 cents). My minimum top-up is 5 pounds (about $7.77). Credit never expires as long as you make one chargeable call or send a message every 90 days. UK users do not pay for incoming calls or messages. Even with no credit you can still receive incoming calls. Since the cheapest cell phone costs about 5 pounds (you have to buy 10 pounds airtime with it) you see street people and beggars with them. I don't believe my deal is specially cheap but I can't be bothered to hunt around for a better one. Quote from: Geek-9pm on January 20, 2012, 06:37:15 PM ... I don't see anything yet mentioned that might address your real problem. You need to know if any of these give you the option to block all incoming calls. Perhaps someone will comment further. soybean and ST, Oh to have plans like that. Here in Canada with very LITTLE competition i am not aware of anything available like what you have. What we have is Rogers but i think they are all the same. We do have a couple of pay as you go that we purchased when we were traveling in the U.S. a lot. However soon as you cross the border back into Canada they are NOT usable. truenorth P.S. So we went the Magic-jack route and are satisfied with that but you must be within wi-fi range to make use of it.I'm pretty sure they have Cricket in your area. http://www.mycricket.com/ Flat monthly rates with no contract.evil,If your suggestion was being made to me. K,truenorthCricket either has coverage here or "piggy-backs" on other companies towers. So I will LOOK it over. They have a store here in town.I had Cricket twice when I was younger. Solve : 32/64 Bit Wars to cease in 2012.? |

Answer» Prediction: The 32/64 Bit Wars will come to an end in 2012. Everybody is sick and tired of reading those 32 vs 54 stories all over the place. Windows 7 64-bit Users Living in a 32-bit World? Don't tell me I am the only one sick 'n tired reading this stuff. By summer they will all stop thrashing this dead horse. I think. You are? I don't care. It works just fine. If you buy something new, it should be 64 bit unless you have a very good reason not to. Quote from: Raptor on January 16, 2012, 11:58:00 AM You are? I don't care. It works just fine. By now everybody should know that if you run the 64 bit system you should be ready and able to get the 64 bit programs to go with it. If anybody is stuck on FireFox, just install a 32 bit version of Windows and live in the past. But if you don't even have a 64 bit CPU, the whole topic is pointless. And many users, the majority, and still using 32 bit CPUs. Oh I forgot to post the link to PCWorld. Here is is, if anybody cares. http://www.pcworld.com/article/181165/windows_7_64bit_users_living_in_a_32bit_world.html I've been using a 64 bit OS for 2 years, and running successive 32 bit versions of Firefox, all bristling with addons, all of that time, and have had no problems whatsover. Quote In fact, if you're a dedicated Firefox user, you may want to think twice before making the 64-bit switch. This is just plain bollocks, as we say here in Britain. Where does Geek find these stupid articles he quotes from? You're from britain? Now OBAMA makes even less sense ... Anyhow, Firefox works just fine on 64bit Windows. No problems whatsoever. Quote from: Raptor on January 16, 2012, 12:41:52 PM You're from britain? Now Obama makes even less sense ... That is ridiculous. I am a "European Socialist" and even the farthest "left" Democrats are way to the right of even European conservative parties, let alone socialist ones. By now everybody should know that if you run the 64 bit system you should be ready and able to get the 64 bit programs to go with it.You can. The only reason most people use 32-bit browsers is because Adobe has been sitting on their thumbs for years. 64-bit Firefox builds work fine, but I've found that I have to use 32-bit on account of pages not being displayed for lack of things like flash. Same story for IE, and any other 64-bit Browser. (Except google chrome, which doesn't even offer a 64-bit version for windows.) For the most part, the problem isn't that it's difficult to make a program 64-bit, but it's difficult (impossible, really) to make your program 64-bit when it has dependencies that have no 64-bit version. In this case, Browser usage for most people depends, at least in part, on flash functionality. While it's arguable whether that will be needed in the future (with the advent of HTML5) at the current time it is still used quite heavily. In many ways it's sort of sad that a single company's inability to create a 64-bit version of a single component can hold back "acceptance" of 64-bit systems (it hasn't, but it seems to have affected perceived acceptance) Also, we need to consider the timeline, here. The first 32-bit processor, the 386, was released in 1987. We didn't have widespread consumer support for 32-bit systems until the release of Windows 95. That's 7 years. The first consumer-oriented 64-bit processor was the AMD Opteron, released in 2005. We're sitting on the same 7 year mark, but the fact is that there hasn't been a "killer app" that necessitates moving to the 64-bit architecture. With 32-bit, it was Windows 95 and the various applications that required it. 64-bit architectures have yet to get one. Quote If anybody is stuck on FireFox, just install a 32 bit version of Windows and live in the past. Why? I use firefox, but I also use the 64-bit version of a number of applications; additionally, with 8GB of RAM I really have no choice but to use a 64-bit OS which even if I only use 32-bit applications will make that 8GB available to them. I also use several applications- and I have several games, which provide 64-bit executables for systems capable of running it; of course if I was to run a 32-bit OS, I'd be unable to use those 64-bit builds, and my 64-bit processor would sit in 32-bit emulation mode, it's 64-bit capabilities completely unused. Saying that people who are still using firefox should stick with 32-bit windows is foolish. Why artificially limit a system's capabilities purely on the basis of a single application (which in this case, works fine either way anyway, both as a 32-bit running on x64 as well as the 64-bit builds, as ST states, the notation about firefox requiring XP mode or anything to that accord are nonsense) Quote And many users, the majority, and still using 32 bit CPUs.Err... where are you getting this information from? quotes from the link: Quote Even though 64-bit Windows systems were first introduced with Windows XPExcept they weren't. 64-bit Windows XP came in several versions; the IA-64 version for the Itanium which had terrible performance with 32-bit applications since they ran under software emulation, which isn't even close to the architecture used today; and a AMD64 version (x64) which was essentially Windows Server 2003 and wasn't released until several years after Windows XP, and after SP1 was released. It w imaas, for all intents and purposes, Not windows XP and was not marketed in the same way at all. So this presents an erroneous image. Quote One example is Real Player, which only recently came out with a 64-bit compatible version--Real Player SP 1.I don't think anybody has taken Real Player seriously for at least a decade. Quote As a general rule, 32-bit versions of software will work on a 64-bit system. But that kind of defeats the purpose of upgrading, doesn't it?No. Not even close. even if you only ran 32-bit applications- the built-in system components and applets will all still be 64-bit and take advantage of 64-bit features. Quote you're using an XP-era printer or scanner, it's a PRETTY safe bet that your device will not be 64-bit compatible. If you still have an "XP era" printer, than that printer has had a Long service life. Buy another bloody printer. I particularly love how the article hones in on this as if this is the "early days" of 64-bit system adoption. 64-bit is here and it's ALREADY adopted. the vast majority of systems run today by consumers are 64-bit capable, and nearly all systems sold in the last THREE to four years are x64. (I was unable to find concrete stats myself, but if one was to base such statistic purely on the systems being used by members seeking help on this forum it's a rare case where they have a system that isn't x64). Quote I don't think anybody has taken Real Player seriously for at least a decade. Does that still exist? Boy, that is one annoying program. Quote from: Raptor on January 16, 2012, 02:13:32 PM Does that still exist? Boy, that is one annoying program. well if we believe the article it does. I was surprised as well. I imagine nobody actually installs it on purpose, it probably has to get itself bundled into installers to get into people's PCs.Does Geek realize this article dates from 2009? Geek, what year do we live in? Many of his news articles are older. Quote from: patio on January 16, 2012, 02:34:23 PM Many of his news articles are older. heh "news"...Thanks all for rounding out this thread. This is not 'News' actually. Rather the point is that the industry should by now be over this 32/64 bit thing. As BC said, there is an apparent n7 year cycle. Still people complain about FireFox and lack of 64 bit support. And Adobe. And whoever. Even some printers and recently been on the market without real 64 bit Windows 7 drivers. So, my prediction is that the 32/64 Bit Wars will end in the summer of 2012. And not just 'cause In said so. Because it is about time. Also, the Mayan predictions about 2012 were about 64 bit computation, not the end of the world. The Mayans were waiting for 2012 before they went 64 bit. ----- It is just simple logic. Wow... Quote In fact, if you're a dedicated Firefox user, you may want to think twice before making the 64-bit switch. Although Firefox is supposed to work on a 64-bit system, some Firefox users say the have had to resort to Windows 7's XP mode just to get Firefox to open ... Waterfox - The fastest 64-Bit variant of Firefox! |

So I PUT this here instead of in the News. Read this if you have trouble sleeping, it will put you out for at least twenty minutes of deep sleep. Polaroid’s Android camera: It’s not really a phone, but more like Android’s answer to the iPod touch. But really? With Polaroid? Answer» Here is the Full Story... They're right, I can imagine Ballmer being ousted as CEO of MS.What? He said That? Hard to believe.OH! well if he's making predictions, than I will have to make some! I predict several things for the coming year: Cookies will become fashionable. Curiously, cookies made of both raisins and peanut butter will become a cultural phenomena, then fade into obscurity. -The colour orange will no longer be called orange, but referred to as an "off-red" this will cause confusion of course so the name will be changed again to the "colour formerly known as orange", which will later be shortened to "orange". Yellow will be the new Blue, scientists will spend several months trying to force the rainbow to swap the two colours, then give up and just use typedef's everywhere. -Flying cars will be invented, as a means to cull the human gene pool of stupidity. the "flying car" of course consists of a standard vehicle and a trebuchet. Safety features include spikey ceilings, floors, and dashboards. -The lost treasure of several sunken Spanish Galleons will appear in the lost and found box of an Iowa Post Office, Along with a bunch of sand and two copies of Celine Dion's latest album "Why the colour pink is my yellow" which was an attempt to market off the aforementioned plans to remap colours in the rainbow. As with her other music it will be terrible and the CDs will find their most utility balancing table legs. -Speaking of table legs, a inventor will invent a table and chair that are self-correcting and will automatically adjust their LEG length when they detect they are lop-sided. Lawsuits ensue when it is discovered that amputees sitting in the chair have their one good leg removed as a result. -An evil wizard will come down from the mountains and cast a spell that brings all the trees in the world too life. This makes the job of lumberjacks and loggers the world over a test of ethical fortitude as they have to listen to the anguished screams as they chop down trees during the day and the boring stories about "hey, did I tell you about this bird that I saw fly by once" they tell during the night, which ACTUALLY makes the former easier. Eventually the trees will DEMAND their own nation and a preserve will be setup for them in the Amazon, but before that can happen the wizard get's bored and makes everything the way it was before. -P will equal NP. I know. Crazy. -Stuff will happen Quote from: BC_Programmer on JANUARY 10, 2012, 03:08:22 PM ...Most of the things you say are possible. Solve : Computer Science/Computer Engineering Degrees?? |
Answer» Hello, and good day. Thank you for reading my post. Think he'll be back ? ?By now he has formed his own company... - and made his first million!Oh, whatever haha! You never know....he'll be back I believe anything in life is hard unless you set your mind to it. If you are determined, you can get through anything. Here's a great article which describes some paths that one can take using a computer science degree: http://www.saintleo.edu/Academics/School-of-Business/Undergraduate-Degree-Programs/Bachelor-of-Computer-Science-Degree/In-The-Real-World/Shattering-Common-Myths-About-a-Computer-Science-DegreeStudents & school organizations can get benefited through Vriti Infocom, Noida products like Classroom Tests Series, online revision packages, student management system, student acquisition assistance etc to make their vision successfulI think you need to figure out what is it that you would like to do more – work with hardware or write software. Once you have that covered, picking a degree won’t seem like such a tough ask. If you want to become a video game programmer, a degree in computer science is more than adequate to get you started. Software engineering is also a career option for people who complete a bachelor of computer science degree. As for the coursework, both computer engineering and computer science will have tough courses. But you are already doing the groundwork by taking courses in math and physics in high school. These courses should provide you a good platform for your degree program!Hee is a typical statement. Quote Tomorrow’s employers will put a premium on skilled and semi-skilled workers, especially in computers, health care, science and technology. And there will be job openings aplenty in the trades as baby boomers retire. Which is wrong! The value a job is not how much money you make. Or could make if you got the job. Many high pay jobs are just not available. Jobs in the future require skills with people, not with machines. The service sector will become more important. An insurance CLAIMS agent deals with people . He may know how to use a computer, but he could as easily do his math with an hand-held calculator. How he deals with people is the real nature of his job. The thread that will not die... |

Answer» Did you? Yes, I did. Thanks for your post. It was a bad idea changing nit with little preponderation.. Having it a a firm calendar point makes it possible to do calculations needed in database management and other IT jobs. The last recent change has COST the industry a Billion dollars in unseeded work to update the ALGORITHM is countless millions of computers that need a predictable time standard. It is more that an annoyance. Quote Damage to a German steel facility occurred during a DST transition in 1993, when a computer timing system linked to a radio time synchronization signal allowed molten steel to cool for one hour less than the required duration, resulting in spattering of molten steel when it was poured.[8] Medical devices may generate adverse events that could harm patients, WITHOUT being obvious to clinicians responsible for care.[88] These problems are compounded when the DST rules themselves change; software developers must test and perhaps modify many programs, and users must install updates and restart applications. Consumers must update devices such as programmable thermostats with the correct DST rules, or manually adjust the devices' clocks.[10]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time Thee is mounting concern that the US Congress might change it again. It is more that just a political toy, it can even bring lose of LIKE for little reason. |

Solve : Which French Fries Taste Best. Urgent!? |
Answer» NEVER mind what people say. Tell the truth. Which French Fries. (Potato crisps, potato chips. ) taste the best. Quote Crisps, Chips and, french fries. Some say McDonald's, others go with WENDY's. Or some local pub. I am not sure. But I am getting hungry. Pleases advice. Urgent. If you're talkin' fast food fries, I'd have to go with Burger King. For regular french fries they're the best in my opinion. The next best would be Chick-fil-a with their waffle fries. And for curly fries, nobody beats Arby's. Some people try to say that Hardees/Carls Jr have the best curly fries, but they're idiots. If you've tasted both you would know that Arby's are vastly superior. You can find some Hardees' that do chili cheese fries (you know, the really sloppy ones you have to eat with a fork) and those are really good, something Arby's doesn't offer. The best french fries I've ever tasted are from this local barbecue restaurant. They do like ribs and pulled pork, you know, that good old southern barbecue. Their french fries are insanely good. They have some sort of special seasoning that they use to give them the most unique flavor, kinda salty, kinda sweet. I think they put a bit of brown sugar in that stuff, it seems like I get a hint of that in the aftertaste. I'm pretty sure they fry them in lard too, no vegetable oil for those babies. Quote I'm pretty sure they fry them in lard too, no vegetable oil for those babies.Thanks. I think you are right.I generally avoid the fast food places as much possible but I agree with JJ's comment about Arby's. Urgent ? ? You've got to be kidding... Quote from: patio on November 05, 2011, 11:26:59 AM Urgent ? ?Have you never had a snack attack Fastfood: I rate Burger King fries 1st, Wendy's 2nd, and McDonalds last. My most favorite food with potatoes though is Perogies --- Potato & Onion or Potato and Cheese. Not New York Fries. I just had them with dinner, they were all soggy and gross. Thanks to all. Too late. Solve : Google vs Apple? |
Answer» Personally I like google cuz they are innovativeEh, your question is rather absurd. You're comparing apples and oranges. Apple is a hardware and software maker and is especially famous for their computers, iPads, iPhones, etc. Google is a tremendously successful Internet search engine and offers many other online services. Surely, you know this, don't you? It's a ridiculous thread and poll, but if that's how glaba wants to spend his time that's fine.I voted..... If your talking about Google's: Android OS vs Apples: IOS, I think Google is better because there are a lot of customizations that you can do with Android and I so love my Android phone.Hmm.. Apple could possibly win because the iPhone is a 'trend' sort of thing, that and Apple fanboys are vicious. I'd like Google to win, but they've got quite a fight on their hands to do this.***sigh*** but they've got quite a fight on their hands to do this. To do what? Who's fighting? What's going on?I like Google better only because they got cool products (most of which the public are not yet aware of), from utterly useful to downright ridiculous (but still cool). Their innovative streak is refreshing. This thread is old, but anways. Well I find google to be better that Apple; Most of Google's products are entirely free, Google is more open-source firendly and everyone is free to use it's products. Apple on the other hand is less innovative, they manufacture awesome devices but they are really expensive too. Quote from: patio on September 20, 2011, 09:29:04 AM ***sigh***Where? I need to get in to that!Google vs. Apple? --- should it be Google vs Yahoo or Apple vs Linux or WINDOWS Why ? ? Neither MS or Linux produce hardware... Quote from: patio on October 28, 2011, 05:37:35 AM Why ? ? Not to mention it implies something of a false dilemma. The thing is, Operating systems are not mutually exclusive, so comparisons are sort of moot. It's like trying to compare the advantages of green and red bell peppers. Just get them both, you can cook them exactly the same, they have pretty much the same nutritional value- they just taste different. Some people don't like the taste. Some people do. No reason to get your hackles up. And with very few exceptions I've not found any everyday task that is better served with an alternate Operating System; aside from Windows (and presumably OSX) being far better for Graphics work in PHOTOSHOP and 3ds max. GIMP is a fine program, but throwing out the established UI of nearly 20 years in favour of some silly drag & drop approach seems- well, kind of silly. On the desktop, it seems that the main reason for most people to use Linux is for political reasons. For me, on the desktop, an Operating system being "Not Windows" isn't enough, and I honestly don't buy any of the psuedo-activist political nonsense and diatribes about freedom. Software should be judged on functional merit, not it's license or Initial cost. Server-side there isn't a whole lot of difference. With Linux and really most *nix systems, you basically set up Apache as the web server, mySQL (or maybe PostgreSQL) as the database, and PHP, Python, Perl, and even ASP.NET by way of mod_mono (using the mono implementation of the CLR, which is of course evil, or something, I've not bothered to ask why, I guess it's part of some evil plot by Mafiasoft). For windows you can either go the Apache/MySQL/PHP etc route, or depending on your needs use IIS, SQL Server, and so forth. There isn't a gigantic difference in functionality; the windows-based tools generally ALLOW more configuration via a GUI, whereas for the OSS tools you'll often need to either install some addon (such as phpmyadmin) or fiddle about with the configuration files yourself. Of course for IIS/SQL Server and so forth there is a price tag for the license, but this doesn't really impact the TCO if the server is going to run for any reasonable length of time. Open Source alternatives have no Initial price point monetarily but if somebody is used to working with IIS/SQL Server/ASP.NET/C# then the money spent on that stack could easily make itself back in terms of increased productivity; after all the company (assuming the person is an employee) that pays for the software also pays the employee, and it will take time for that person to learn how to work with a different stack. It all depends on what is needed. Functionally, there really isn't a huge difference and I truly do not understand the polarization and fanaticism that grows up around software. Software isn't going to reward loyalty. Instead of learning a single operating system and assuming every single idiom it represents is right and everything other Operating Systems do is immediately wrong, look at them objectively. The only way anybody is going to discover useful new ideas for widgets is through experimentation. To be fair I don't want to be the guinea pigs in those experiments and would rather wait until they pan out, but somebody needs to experiment. If it works, other Operating System developers may take note. Take, for example, drop-down menus. While I'm not 100% sure as to the implementation of the menu in the Xerox PARC GUI, I can tell you that the original Mac Implementation did not support heirarchal menus; that is, you only had the top level stuff (the Apple menu,File, Edit,View,Special, or the appropriate menu for the application) but there was no facility with which those menus could have more menus, as we take for granted now. Now, this had trade-offs; for one thing, menus were usually easier to navigate; instead of clustering otherwise complicated choices into submenus, applications would instead defer that functionality to a Dialog Box, which was typically easier to work with. Even the simplest things can be frustrating, and frustration often incites polarization and fanaticism for what a person was familiar with and is no longer exposed to. Macs, for example, seem to only allow you to pull down a menu by holding the button down, navigating through the menu, and releasing the button to select it. Windows (and, indeed, most Linux desktop environments) allow you to do it this way, but they also allow you to press and release the menu title. On a mac (at least as I've seen) this results in the drop-down menu being closed. Windows/Gnome/KDE etc will allow you to navigate the menu with the button up, and then click to select one. This has become the way I'm used to dealing with menus, and to be fair this makes more sense when dealing with the additional complications that a heirarchal menu brings to the table. That said, it's simply a different manner of doing things. I don't think the way Mac OSX does it is stupid- because, let's be fair, it is consistent, and if I had gone the other way (mac OS to Windows/Linux) I probably wouldn't have noticed any difference. And I mean, come on- ranting about how menus work is pretty vain- talk about a first-world problem. (actually, that's any Operating System or software debate in a nutshell). People like to talk about strengths and weaknesses of various operating systems, but that presents something of a false image; those strengths and weaknesses are entirely perceived and not at all objective. For each weakness in one system, there is usually a workaround; for example, the mediocre implementation of security in STANDARD *nix, which came about as a result of necessity for running on the hardware at the time ( basic read, write, and execute permissions for each user) can be amended with SELinux, which adds "proper" Access Control Lists; poor CLI support (relative to Bash)via CMD in Windows is amended by using PowerShell, or installing cygwin and using Bash. The fact that this takes more effort is a sticking point for many people, but it's pointless, because for every 'strength' in a systems implementation there is surely a weakness somewhere, and VICE versa.Another instant classic ! ! Kudos BC... |

Solve : Legacy Hard drive issue still present.? |
Answer» Do not read this is you have any kind of attention disorder. Until the release of ATA-2 standard in 1996, there were a handful of large hard drives which did not support LBA addressing, so only Large or Normal methods could be used. However using the Large method also introduced portability problems, as different BIOSes often used different and incompatible translation methods, and hard drives partitioned on a computer with BIOS from a particular vendor often could not be read on a computer with a different make of BIOS. CHS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylinder-head-sector Quote Cylinder-head-sector, also known as CHS, was an early method for giving addresses to each physical block of data on a hard disk drive. In the case of floppy drives, for which the same exact diskette medium can be truly low-level formatted to different capacities, this is still true. MBR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_boot_record Master boot RECORD Quote Sector indices have always begun with a 1, not a zero, and due to an early error in MS-DOS, the heads are generally limited to 255[citation needed] instead of 256. Both the partition length and partition start address are sector values stored as 32-bit quantities. GUID GPT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table GUID Partition Table -GPT Quote In computer hardware, GUID Partition Table (GPT) is a standard for the layout of the partition table on a physical hard disk. Although it forms a part of the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) standard (Intel's proposed replacement for the PC BIOS), it is also used on some BIOS systems because of the limitations of MBR partition tables, If you find the wiki nis wrong, please update it. Here is a reasonable summary of the current problem. He is NOT talking about the past. It is still a problem due to the legacy hangover. We are almost over it, but not yet. SOMEDAY all PCs and HDDs will be fully GPT compliant. http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/bios.html Legacy BIOS Issues with GPT Foot note: Many hard drive adapters, USB /IDE cables fro China , are not compatible. You have no idea what you are talking about, and very little of what you state on this or many other TOPICS has any grounding in reality. I imagine this all makes perfect sense to you in your little prescription drug addled world, but to those of us who are sober and not under the influence of strong narcotics most of your drivel just sounds like irrelevant nonsense on par with the rantings of Doug Pederson AKA Spectateswamp or the irrelevant rantings of the Timecube guy. That is, it only makes sense to you in any way because it never made sense to you to begin with. You keep saying "legacy hard drive and BIOS problems are an issue with today's hard drives and BIOS's, but absolutely none of what you present here backs that up. Legacy hard drive and BIOS problems are legacy hard drive and BIOS problems. All of your sources are pretty clear these are problems with Legacy hardware, not modern hardware. For example, how is, a modern, let's say, 250GB SATA hard drive and a modern BIOS affected by these "legacy" issues? CHS is obsolete and no longer used. 48-bit LBA is found in any modern BIOS. outside of Operating System Software, there is no "legacy" issue with a modern machine.Read before you Write. Solve : lights + computer monitor or a laptop + eyes? |
Answer» While working in front of computer monitor or a laptop, should the lights in your workspace area are powered on, in dim light, or turned off? Extroverts generally have a higher threshold for sensory stimulation than introverts do, which means extroverts aren’t as affected by bright lights or loud noises. Introverts tend to prefer less stimulation, and are more affected by sensory input. Introverts also tend to be easily DISTRACTED by their senses. Bright lights and loud noises wear them out. In CONTRAST, extroverts are more comfortable in the midst of a 'gong show.' Their performance and mental state may not be as negatively INFLUENCED by sensory stimulation. One could argue for the use of open-air offices because "natural light is comforting." Eyestrain might be increased when looking at a computer screen in a dark environment. It is really up to personal preference-I have a dislike yellow fluorescent lights because they put a yellowish tint on everything, for example, but not to the point where my productivity is diminished. It is better you work with a natural feeling light. This is to ensure you will reduce some glare and work long hours.Spam sig removed. Be careful...I believe using a computer in a room with the only light coming from your monitor is not good. You should have some lighting in the room for a more EVEN distribution of light. This might help: http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/computerworkstations/wkstation_enviro.html |

Answer» Do to so manny candidates running, not everyone was included in this poll. If you support someone else you can NOTE them in a comment. Who would be you pick for President if you had to vote now? None of them, because if I had to vote now I would presumably be voting for (WELL, technically electing) a new majority party in my own country's government... Also I thought politics & religion were "out of bounds" even in off-topic?From our rules: Religion and politicsPosts can be made in the off-topic section only about religion and politics as long as they're purely informative and contain no bias. This same rule applies to avatars, SIGNATURES, and private messages. This thread is certainly not informative, and by it's very NATURE a poll reflects favoritism and bias. Thread closed. |

Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 19, 2011, 09:38:59 AM I've not had any spell-checking issues with 6.0.2I am using 6.02 downloaded from the main site. Maybe the British VERSION comes with the discretionary? Well I wasnt even aware there's a spell checker existing there. Certainly didnt notice anything missing. Quote from: beckymaccery on October 05, 2011, 03:11:51 AM Well I wasnt even aware there's a spell checker existing there. Certainly didnt notice anything missing. iIt is now working. When I mis spell a thing, a little red squiggle unlined the thing. The get it to work I have to load a English dictionary one time and from then on it worked. Never before have I ever needed to do that. And never since. It is not found on the MENU bar, or if it is, I never found it. It can be LOADED only when your are in a tect box. Solve : What is listeria?? |
Answer» What is listeria? Listeria is bacteria from the Listeria monocytogenes family that can cause listeriosis infection. The bacteria have a long incubation period, which means that it may take as long as four weeks for people who have eaten contaminated cantaloupe to feel ill.I have some questions. With modern technology, why is it so hard to find this kind of thing until people start dying? Ho how can I set up a RSS feed to alert me if the outbreak comes to my state? Should I Just stop eating fruits and vegetables?I did some RESEARCH a few days ago on the BSE outbreak in England. Much of it was caused by poor sanitation and practices which included feeding cattle with ground meat/bone paste. Mad cow disease is incurable, and is usually only DETECTED when patients report a loss of memory and coordination due to the disease attacking the nervous system and causing proteins to fold the wrong WAY. (This is why we need [email protected]!) Yet people still eat beef, because the risk of contracting BSE is so minor. However, if you are really paranoid you might say that this is all the reason not to eat beef, because it is essentially a massive game of Russian roulette among beef eaters-someone will die of BSE in the next year. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/bse/ One case every year in recent years. Virtually nonexistent risk. Quote from: Geek-9pm on October 04, 2011, 06:48:48 PM What is listeria? I have some questions.1) Listeria is a genus of bacteria, just like salmonella is. E. coli is a particular species of bacteria, I WANT to add. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listeria 2) Wouldn't that require meticulous medical checkups every single day for the entire world's population? Additionally, many people shrug off potentially dangerous symptoms as the common cold or a minor fever. 3) No, because you would get rather unhealthy... You can always avoid cantaloupe if you wish. Wouldn't that be like saying you don't want to live in your house because there is always the minor chance of a power surge frying all your electronic equipment? |

Solve : Hollywood concerned by online video sharing? |
Answer» That is an understatement. Worries over new software / Hollywood concerned by online video sharingHere is the link for the full story: http://articles.sfgate.com/2004-10-05/business/17448170_1_file-sharing-networks-edonkey-movie-studios-and-record For related info, look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crackle Apparently they have new software that makes it easy to share your service with neighbors. And they seem to think it is not break copyright laws. Is that true? Code: [Select]October 05, 2004 7 years is but a moment on Geekworld... What else can we expect? RIAA worried about online music filesharing Microsoft introduce GUI operating system to replace MS-DOS JFK shot in Dallas Buddy Holly dies in plane crash (For English cricket fans) late cricket news: WG Grace is dead. I am so embarrassed . I though it was this year. Anyway, these were the top movies you might have seen in 2004 1 Shrek 2 2 Spider-Man 2 3 The Passion of the Christ 4 Meet the Fockers 5 The Incredibles 6 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 7 The Day After Tomorrow 8 The BOURNE Supremacy 9 National Treasure 10 The Polar Express 11 Shark Tale ...and I haven't seen any of them! Quote from: Salmon Trout on October 05, 2011, 01:12:20 PM ...and I haven't seen any of them!Well, this was not a total lose. See if you can find a Spider Man 2 on line. It is, arguably, the best of the Spider Man series.I hardly ever watch Hollywood movies - I mainly watch European films - Spanish mostly, plus Italian French, Mexican, south American (Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, etc) and the odd Middle Eastern film from Lebanon and Tunisia. I do like some US TV series, Tru Blood, Dexter, Nurse Jackie. I think Six Feet Under was the best series I have ever seen, I have the box set and soon we'll watch it for the 3rd time. US films I have enjoyed include Goodfellas, the Godfather films, No Country For Old Men, Super Size Me... Here in the USA many say that the foreign files have more nudity. Is that true? We Americans are very sensitive about nudity. Blood and internal organs are fair, but skin is prohibited. Two American censors watch a clip of a murder scene for a unfinished movie: Censor 1: Did you see that! He sliced her naked body repeatedly with a butcher knife.. Censor 2: Yes, we need to have them do that scene over again. We must protect the children who might see this on the Movie channel while the parents away. Censor 1: To reduce the amount of blood and guts" Censor 2: No, they just need to out some cloths on her. Censor 1: Yes! Quote from: Geek-9pm on October 05, 2011, 02:28:27 PM Here in the USA many say that the foreign files have more nudity. Is that true? I would guess so. You get to see penises sometimes, and ladies rugs (the kind that match the drapes or not) but only briefly usually. In the US series I mentioned you saw ladies bare chests and heard the F and C words. You hear the N word in Quentin TARANTINO films. Buddy Holly is dead ? ? When did that happen....what have i missed ? ? Quote from: patio on October 05, 2011, 04:51:00 PM Buddy Holly is dead ? ? February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step Quote from: patio on October 05, 2011, 04:51:00 PM Buddy Holly is dead ? ?He is still "alive" in Texas. Heck, I walk into a Cafe and he one of the MAIN options on the Jukebox. |

Solve : How Do You Email ACER CANADA???? |
Answer» I never thought I would have to ask How to email a computer company but something is wrong here in Canada, we have two Acer laptops, both are registered and one is STILL under warranty, for all that's worth, I need recovery media for one of the laptops, I go to the Acer website, enter the laptop's code and it says it is not available, I try to logon to the site to get help by email as to what I should do, the logon does not work, I ask for a new password, that does not work, I try to register again, no luck there either, absolutely nothing I do on their website WORKS, I just READ a good bit of advice, before you buy try the company's customer service, I sure wish I had read that earlier. Acer America (USA only)From Acer US web site. There's a complete contact info on their website.. Better check it out in case there was a change on the info that we dont know of.This topic is 4 months old. BTW, the domain name for your website is too long from an SEO point of view. |
