You might have attention deficit disorder..  Caffine, from what I understand has an opposite effect on people with ADD...  Do you have difficulty concentrating?

I think I have adult ADD. In the time it takes someone to read a simple paragraph and comprehend it, it would take me 3 to 4 times longer because my attention span is lousy...Also, caffine makes me sleepy sometimes, but other times is wakes me up...  I've got some sort of simply-weird disorder     I won't take Rx drugs though, they seem to cause serious irritation when I take them..

You are confusing ADHD with ADD. I have don't have a difficulty concentrating, but I am good multi-tasking things I deem important. And who knows, about 90% of the people who are classified as "gifted", as I am, have some form of ADD or ADHD.From what I understand ADD and ADHD are one and the same... just one of those renamings that happens every few years. Depending on where you're from, cold may be common and may not. Living on antarctica, cold may be very common, whereas, living NEAR the equator, cold may be rare. I experienced some problems due to repetitive strain injury years ago.  I visited a doctor and was ABLE to resolve the problem.  Actually, I discovered that a faulty mouse was part of the cause.  It was a ball mouse and I did not realize that either the vertical or horizontal sensor had been faulty for perhaps a few months and I had been constantly compensating via extra effort in using the mouse. I have this problem in my right hand. It got so bad that it hurt to screw a lid off of a bottle. My problems stem more from work than computer use I think. I'm a diesel mechanic and pulling wrenches and heavy lifting has about destroyed my wrists and knees too. I have recently gotten a brace for my wrist and I can now open up a drink without it hurting. Only problem is that it is almost impossible to type or use a mouse with the brace so I take it off for the 4 or 5 hours a day I'm at the computer. The doctor said the main thing is to wear it at night while sleeping because that's when your wrist tends to bend down without you even knowing it and pinch the  nerves. If you drive alot which I also do, Drive with just the last two joints of your fingers gripping the steering wheel not with your WHOLE hand wrapped around the wheel which bends your wrist at a 45 degree angle the whole time your driving. I guess the point is, keep your wrist straight as often as possible. soybean... I think you may have struck a good point.. The mouse I use most of the time is ball mouse, and it hasn't been cleaned in a while
I usually take it apart every few months and get the grime/hair off the rollers inside.

I've got an optical mouse on another computer, but when I finally get to it, I cannot enjoy the ease of using it because my mouse hand is already exhausted..Some say the braces exacerbate the problem.  When I am consistent in performing STRETCHING exercises for the hands and wrists, I have much less trouble with pain in my hands and wrists.

Solve : health care reform passes in US?

Answer»

I don't understand fully the risks/rumors of government "taking over" the health care system, but this will certainly make it easier for me to find a job in the IT industry, because I won't have to worry whether or not the hiring company offers medical benefits for my family, and I won't have to worry about loosing insurance just because I change JOBS, either.  Some companies from what I understand, even if they do offer health benifets, won't except the EMPLOYEE's family member if they have pre-existing conditions.  Shoot, even if you do have decent health insurance, now it's illegal for insurance companies to increase your cost just because you get sick, from what I gather.

I counted 9 + computer repair businesses in Fresno, CA where I live and wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to work for them, because they might not offer medical benifets, but now it seems I won't have that problem and I'll be able to move around as much as I need to.

As I said, I don't fully understand everything that happening in government legislation right now, but this bill seems good.

I, a 14-year-old Canadian resident who doesn't follow American politics, am confused...what exactly happened?I don't know how the health care system works in Canada, but in the US, private insurance companies indirectly control the lives of people because people can't afford to loose there health insurance, in a lot of cases.

There will be now a "public" insurance option available that is affordable for people, so private insurance companies will have competition now and will have no choice but to lower their rates.

This means if you WANT to go into business for yourself, you don't have to worry about loosing your insurance at your current job.  Or, you don't have to worry whether or not that new job will have the medical benefits you need.

Others most likely know more about this than I do.  I haven't followed it as closely as others probably have, but this generally will liberate many people, including myself.  The bill will take a while to go into effect but at least private insurance companies have lost their death hold on people in the US.Yay!!!!
I've been waiting for this for so long. Now I wont have to worry about being able to afford to get sick!

Absolutely

This is indeed a historic day in the United States and will change so many people's lives.

Quote from: EEVIAC on March 21, 2010, 10:10:18 PM

In an interesting twist, here in Canada there is the "public" option.

and in an even more interesting twist, it's NOT free, and it's mandatory. (At least in BC). They have absolutely no competition so they just send bills to everybody in the province. So It's actually kind of the opposite here, except it doesn't matter wether we pay or not we still have coverage, since, you know, we're paying for it already through taxes. its sad that one party did not vote for something that everyone should have as a right health care , we are lucky in Britain our's is free for everything/everywhere and there are very few complaint's against it , but there is talk that in the next budget the overall amount is going to be cut Anyone who thinks this is Free health care is kidding themselves bigtime...

EEVIAC you should know that if you're a Resident of Cali...Free?    I didn't actually mean that.  I was putting emphasis on the freedom people are going to have in general, having another option besides being at the mercy of private insurance companies.  What ever I have to pay, I'm sure I'll be able to live with it.  However, before the bill kicks in, I'll still have to make sure the company I apply for offers health coverage.  But later if I have to change jobs, there will be more freedom when looking for jobs since I wont have to worry whether that new job has benefits.  I find that liberating, at the least.

One thing I don't understand though, is that the bill "extends" insurance to "32 million" Americans who don't have coverage.  What about the other 270 million + Americans? What if they need public option eventually like others?  How many people will this bill actually benefit?

Follow the money...there you will find the answers. Quote from: patio on March 22, 2010, 04:10:41 PM
Follow the money...there you will find the answers.

from what they are saying over here , everyone can use itHealth insurance should never have been tied to the employer.  One of the reasons "old" folks have trouble finding employment is employers don't want to incur the higher insurance premiums (for the perceived greater health risk).

Additionally, employers hire "temp" or "part-time" help to avoid the requirement to provide full benefits of which health insurance is a large expense.  This leaves many people under employed or working several part-time jobs.  (Actually, not being an employer, I'm not sure about this.)

Your insurance, if you want any, should be independent of the employer.  This would eliminate "health" as an obstacle to changing jobs.  It would permit the employer to focus on their "core" business and it would return more privacy and freedom back to the potential employee.

It will be interesting to see what the "constitutional" challenges are...  If the insurance is "mandatory", can an American citizen be forced to seek employment simply to pay the "health" tax (mandatory insurance premiums).  Will America purge the "street" people (homeless, vagrants) from their cities (jail them) on the pretext that they failed to secure or buy the "mandatory" health insurance?

What America needs is NOT universal health insurance coverage.  What they need is a return to "affordable" health care.  People should pay "cash" for most of their health care needs (or work something out with the DOCTOR).  You should only carry "major medical" insurance for the really big stuff.  By minimizing the number of people in the medical treatment and payment "food chain" there's more accountability.  The "insertion" of health insurance into this chain has "increased" the cost of health care and opened the door to fraud, waste, and abuse; not to mention the loss of "medical" privacy.

And no, I don't know what's in the health care bill.  I doubt that anyone does... Quote from: dahlarbear on March 26, 2010, 05:05:20 PM

I think I agree, however I'm just glad something was finally done.   I've never had to worry about health insurance until recently, and thinking about finding an entry level position, that offers reasonable health coverage seems difficult at the least.  And even if you do find that job, what if you want to move?  Life is harder than it has seemed for so many years, which I am just learning. What I'm waiting to see is how much this will cost individuals.

I'm not an insurance or HR expert, but I've been somewhat involved in the process.

What a lot of people don't know is that in large companies ($1B+ in sales, or 10,000+ employees, and should be getting good discounts, the average insurance cost per employee is around $600 per month, of which the employer typically pays somewhere from half to two thirds of the cost.

I haven't heard of what individuals will be forced to pay under the new plan, but I'm willing to bet it's going to be a lot higher than anyone expects. Quote

That was on Jan 10 this year. So where is it now?
Does it really EXIST? Does it matter? So what's the rumor part about it?

http://www.google.com/phone/Yeah according to the link it's now available, and since it's "now available in Canada" it's probably been available in the U.S for like, 10 years. But is it real?

It was to have a camera.
A 3G network. Compatible with AT&T.
Mobile applications.
And super good and wonderful and you gotta have it.

Is it really better or equal to the Apple IPHONE?

Quote

Yeah according to the link it's now available, and since it's "now available in Canada" it's probably been available in the U.S for like, 10 years.

Where does it say that? It was just released January 5, 2010 in UK, USA, Hong Kong, and Singapore. March 16, 2010 for Canada.

Yeah it's real, just not available everywhere at the moment. Due to the apple iphone, it's not as popular as it might of been. The Nexus One is an over-hyped Android phone. Android phone have been around.

The Nexus On (built for Google by HTC) has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, 32GB-capable microSD slot, a 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display at 800x480, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720x480 video capture 20FPS, dual microphones for noise canceling and a trackball. There is no slide-out keyboard—everything's done with the onscreen virtual keyboard.

On paper, those specs are impressive. In actuality, each bit has its own quirk that makes the Nexus One less than perfect and just good.

Review on the Nexus One

The good: The Nexus One has a GORGEOUS display, a lightning-fast processor, and a loaded feature set. The enhanced voice capabilities worked flawlessly, and the phone delivers solid performance.

The bad: Like other Android phones, the Nexus One forces you to store apps on the internal memory. The media player remains average, and it's missing some wanted features like hands-free Bluetooth dialing. Currently, Outlook Calendar syncing is not available.

The bottom line: It doesn't have all the features we'd like, but the Nexus One greatly enhances the Google Android family with a fast processor, good call quality, and improved voice control features. What's more, we love that all versions of the phone will be unlocked.

The phone design looks nice at least. I think I'll stick with my Zine ZN5 for now.Might not be news, but there ideas But then again I think some phones go over the top with its technology

Smart METER Hacking?
Are Smart Meters DUMB?
Quote

AP Exclusive: `Smart' meters have security holes
By JORDAN ROBERTSON, AP Technology Writer Jordan Robertson, Ap Technology Writer – Fri Mar 26, 2:19 pm ET

SAN FRANCISCO – Computer-security researchers say new "smart" meters that are designed to help deliver electricity more efficiently also have flaws that could let hackers tamper with the power grid in previously impossible ways.

At the very least, the vulnerabilities open the door for attackers to jack up strangers' power bills. These flaws also could get hackers a key step closer to exploiting one of the most dangerous capabilities of the new technology, which is the ability to remotely turn someone else's power on and off.
This AP story has been picked up by many major newspapers.
Quote
Mr. Wright SAID his firm found "egregious" errors, such as flaws in the meters and the technologies that utilities use to MANAGE data from meters. "Even though these protocols were designed recently, they exhibit security failures we've known about for the past 10 years," he said.

He said InGuardians found vulnerabilities in products from all FIVE of the meter makers the firm studied. He would not disclose those manufacturers.

I am planning to post a weekly newsletter for Sr.Citizens in the Boston area. I am senior citizen, and don’t have the resources to bring on a writer for any extended period of time, but was hoping someone could direct me to a good place to find a temporary and reliable labor source? Any help you can provide is really appreciated...Hello, welcome to the COMPUTER help forum. You'll find here a very friendly and helpful community of experienced computer users as well as newcomers.

There are many senior citizens who have communication skills and would be glad to help you without payment . However, I think it would be best for you to check in your local area and see if you can make personal contact with someone in your own community.

Please allow me to be frank, I have been USING the Internet for many years and in recent times I have seen more and more scams and frauds than what could possibly be imagined. So I would be very cautious about putting any KIND of advertising or solicitation on the Internet unless you absolutely know exactly what you're doing.

Besides other members in your senior citizens community, you might also want to enlist the help of the local community college. There MAY be youngsters there who are developing their writing skills and would enjoy working with you and also get college credit for their work.

And by the way, you can tell that I am not a professional writer. There are some typos and grammar errors in this post. I have very poor vision so I do this by dictation. So far, the computer does a fair job of understanding what I say, but sometimes it makes him hilarious MISTAKES.

Anyone feeling the cold war getting colder?

If you think about it, the "cold war" never REALLY started and it never really ended. If you think about it, it's pretty amazing anything get's done in any country given the huge amount of distrust that is embodied simply by a countries borders. It's really just a macroscopic version of siblings or immature wedded couples (in some places these are often one and the same) "stay on your side of the house" rule, where they actually split a house into two parts. In the case of the world it has been split into vast swathes of ownership, but I think the real question is who actually owns these swathes of land, and for that matter can a person own land? Not in a communist country of course. But that's not my point, since I don't actually have one. I'm just kind of rambling and hoping most of what I said makes sense and doesn't sound too hippie like. I hate hippies, driving around preaching about saving the world and then driving around in volkswagens with fuel economy about as efficient as Oprah when she's feeling bloated.

Anyway, my point isn't that we should all be holding hands and making a huge circle of peace and love around the earth. No way. My point is, although I cannot stand the very premise of the hippie lifestyle, some of the concepts and ideas that they get while in a drug induced state of semi-consciousness are correct, but not in the "brilliant" sense of the word correct but more in the same way that a blind man throwing darts in the general direction of a dart board will eventually get a bulls-eye, or how INFINITE monkeys typing on a infinite typewriters can bring an infinite number of typewriter repair companies out of the rut they've been in since the mid 1980's. I of course don't mean their ideas about different ways of doing drugs or using flowers as hair DECORATION, but rather their spirit of co-operation, which can never be realized in the way they want, since they are hippies and don't do anything. They just sort of say, "man, it would be great if..." and "you know what would be awesome..." and then go on a half-hour rant about it and never actually put the effort they took to flap their ceaselessly moving TONGUES to actually getting a steady job or even a haircut.

Anyway, in conclusion I don't think the bouy scouts are something we should support. Just because the gulls have a scout troop doesn't mean that the bouys do, I mean, for goodness sakes, the gulls are birds, and the bouys aren't even alive! I mean, you can put a kerchief on anything, but it it's just gonna float in the bay how in the blazes will it earn any merit badges?

Oh wait... that's not what we were talking about.

Well, somewhere in that vast wall of unrelated blabbering I'm sure there's something relevant.I was going to take the time and break your post into quotes adding numerous 'Lol's and Heh's) but it seemed like to much work.

"Definitions of double negative on the Web:

an affirmative constructed from two negatives; "A not unwelcome outcome"
a grammatically substandard but emphatic negative; "I don't never go"

Thanks  JJ  for the excellent example of a double negative.

There may be hope for the CH class.Greg: Almost everyone here knows what a double-negative is.

Except Mulreay, I guess, since the copy of the article had no double negatives.

I think the moral of the story though is that nobody cares what you have to say about double negatives since it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic and is more annoying then contributory.

Kind of like a hippie.
Pre-emptive snarky comment: your attempt to turn around what I said re: not adding to the topic at hand and how you consider my longer post previous to be as bad as yours. Thing is, your obsession with "double negatives" has absolutely nothing to with the Topic. It's like complaining about a persons post's sentence structure but not actually commenting on the content. If you have any stories about running into or meeting famous people, post it.

Back in late 1995, just after graduating high SCHOOL I WENT to Sun Valley Ski Resort, in Idaho (US) to live and work for a while.  It was a crazy time.  I was in the main HOTEL lobby on my day off with my room mate (I lived in a dorm room) and Clint Eastwood walked into the lobby and was standing at the FRONT desk.  People were standing around marveling at the infamous Clint, but I took it upon myself to walk up and introduce myself and got to shake his hand.  After shaking his hand he said, "Take it easy"              My room mate was laughing and somewhat shocked..

Solve : minimum speed law?

Answer»

Here is the California "minimum" speed law on a highway.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc22400.htm

I just back from out of town.  When I entered the freeway to come home someone in front of me (middle-aged guy in his 50s) was going anywhere from 40 - 50 miles per hour while entering the freeway, just cruising.  I don't recall the exact speed but it was relatively slow.  I was waving my hands at him in his rear view mirror, in a sense saying "What the heck!" and he mocked me.  By the time I was on the freeway the cars behind us were going much faster and I had to speed up to merge with the flow of traffic and pull around this guy.  I gave him the "birdy" as I drove past him and he gave me the bird right back.  I have to admit I lost my temper.  Are some drivers just stupid or are they looking for trouble? So what was the minimum speed on that ROAD?

"Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?”
   - George CarlinGood question, don't know.  But I doubt that guy had previously looked it up and was attempting to drive at the slowest allowed speed.  All I know is that, by the time I was on the freeway, the cars behind us were gaining quickly.  He did happen to exit at the very next exit which wasn't too far up.  He might have figured, "why speed up when I have to slow down again so soon?"  But that's no reason to impede traffic.  I do know I could see the guy clearly through his back window and he kept looking at me through his rear view mirror.  He knew someone was behind him (me) attempting to merge onto the freeway and seemed to not give a crap or was deliberately trying to piss me off.  A while back a diesel driver swerved into my lane while attempting to pass him, to intimidate me or something.  Some people are just crazy, I should have gotten his license number and reported it, but I didn't think about it at the time.

Whatever the case, people should merge on a freeway and do as little as possible to impede traffic and this guy was clearly not doing that.  I might add that the entrance ramp was downhill pretty good so I know the grade wasn't a problem for him.

On the other hand I should watch my temper, I may not be so lucky the next few times someone pisses me off, as people have been known to pull out guns over things like this.  If you go to YouTube and type in "road rage" you'll see some interesting stuff. hee hee         You tube is a world of excitement. When I notice someone following too closely in my rear view, I slow down. Sometimes, I even give them a brake-check. heh, that I can understand, especially if I'm all ready going over the speed limit.

I'd be careful though, I've read some pretty nasty stories.  If you get under the wrong person's skin you could be the target of a few rounds of bullets.  I carry pepper spray everywhere I go so if someone comes up to my window looking for trouble I'll just let them have it!  Pepper spray does not work well against bullets...Wow. American drivers are a crazy bunch.

Then again, the streets there are overall, more crowded, which becomes a problem pretty quickly. Quote from: patio on March 21, 2010, 06:19:51 AM

Pepper spray does not work well against bullets...

Actually I wasn't talking about a situation where a gun is involved.  I was talking more along the lines of when someone tries use physical force without a weapon.  If someone pulled a gun out on me I'd try to take cover or get away, some how.Maybe Patio meant that pepper spray is no good when they are throwing handfuls of bullets at you.

Or better yet, a hand full of stink bombs.  hee hee

People use to use them in the locker room in high school all the time.  I guess people get off on grossing other people out. Quote
Are some drivers just stupid or are they looking for trouble?
Are you including yourself?

Giving in to anger while  driving is a SERIOUS compulsive BEHAVIOR that can impair judgment and bring on an an accident.

In all of the USA driving at 45 MPH is both legal and in some cases required by law. If road conditions, hazards, mechanical problems, heavy traffic, high wind, ice, snowfall or any situation that makes speed dangerous the driver is required to slow down to a safe speed.

Many  of the freeway on ramps were built so the the only save entry speed is 45 MPM.They were never designed for use by race car drivers. In fact, some on ramps have stops lights! Now way can you enter  over 45 MPH with an economy car

If you do not like the public highways, go BUILD your own, but not with my TAX dollars. I am one of many that prefer safety over speed.

Take a minute out of my life, but don't take out my life for a minute.
Slow drivers are more of a danger on the roads than speedy ones, it's what causes the speedy ones to go around them and crash! Having a minimum speed law is a good idea. Quote from: Azzaboi on March 21, 2010, 04:37:58 PM

Pretty interesting with the ability of search to quickly find keywords you're interested in articles going back to the 60's also funny seeing some of the old ads.Takes me back a few years looking at those popsci mags. My grandfather used to give me the issues he was DONE with. This was about 15 years ago. I always looked at the back of the magazines at the "Shop at Home" section. I wanted one of those G1 Homebuilt Helicopter Kits so bad.   The G1 kit is still available.

I wonder what local law enforcement would think if they saw someone driving one of those things and parking it say, at the local Mall.  After the person is done shopping they hop in the helicopter and go back home.
Well there are restrictions as to where, when and who it is flying. If I had the money, I'd order the kit and put that thing TOGETHER..

The blades alone are close to 2000 dollars  The ORIGINAL ad said that no license was needed. But I know there are regulations as to where these things are allowed. I still like the idea of taking off vertically and flying over town to a friends house or something. I wonder how much it would cost to actually build one that was fully functional and safe?   I wonder how high it can go.

I'd imagine that I would either fly it low enough so I can jump out with minimal injury, say there's a fire, or high enough so I could use a parachute if I had to...

Wow. I didn't really think these would be so costly. ($20,000/kit) But then again you are paying for parts that have been designed and manufactured specifically for this heli. Maybe when I retire i'll look into buying the kit.

Oh and it says the G1 can reach 10,000 ft, and has a foward speed of around 80 mph. Quote from: t_blake07 on March 07, 2010, 03:31:01 PM

Cool more reasons for me to add to my website... anyone got any prozac?
No, I am off Prozac. But I can get you some cheap Lithium10,000 ft does seem awfully high. That's almost 10 World Trade Center towers tall! I think this is a theoretical height according to the specs of the motor, main rotors, and tail rotors. Whether or not it can actually, safely, reach that height is probably unknown. I sure wouldn't have the balls to go that high in this thing.

From my understanding, most military/medical/private choppers only fly at around 1000 ft or so. According to FAA regulations, a chopper must maintain an altitude of 1000 ft above the highest obstacle in a 2000 ft radius. I took a ride in a small helicopter at a local state fair recently, and now that I think about it, we did stay about that high above the surrounding buildings and such. Other than take off and APPROACH of coarse. A heli ride is a lot different than a plane ride. A rougher ride, yet more maneuverable at the same time.

Solve : How to get clean energy now.?

Answer» How to get clean energy now, not later.
There is no lack of people with ideas about how to use technology to produce clean energy for our present and future needs. Many of these ideas are very good, some not so good. But there is no lack for ideas. What is needed is a solution that will work now. Then later a solution for the long term. The  criticism of the CURRENT state of our technology does not improve the situation.
The key word is deployment. There is technology that works, and works very well. It has to be put to use. The real issue is how to convince everybody to use what we already know.
These remarks are not really my own. I have made a simple paraphrase of an article that appeared on CNet. Here is a link to the full article

I cannot divulge anything further, though its only an idea, I don't want someone stealing the principal I've laid out in my head if it ACTUALLY works

I am quite literally sitting on a giant lake here in the Valley, so, its feasible to make ones own power plant.Part of the problem is the two wars which America has fought instead of directing the money elsewhere.  Part of the problem is that all the new RICH houses I see being erected do not seem to have any solar energy system built into them...including the solar energy shingles which can be place on the roof and then tied in with the home's electricity.  We bail out financial institutions, but we don't bail out Main Street, or provide enough incentive for people to more easily use alternative energy sources.  Our electric grid badly needs updating.  The president of e-solar, in a public radio interview, said his company could power vast areas of the country, but we don't have a grid to get the power from the solar collectors to the target areas.  We're a nation of GREEDY capitalists who value the individual above the needs of our society.  The parts of this country which have not been stolen have been sold, and mortgaged on the future of our CHILDREN. Note the adjective "rich". Majority of rich could care less about putting solar panels on their house. They don't have to worry about money, therefore they have no reason to worry about their energy, water, food, or gas bills.Agreed, but they're the ones who can afford to do it!

Solve : Hard drive crash.?

Very strange story of a hard disk drive crash. I've never seen or even heard of anything LIKE this happening before.

http://www.astro.ufl.edu/~ken/crash/wow! That is just weird...I was perplexed about the substrate material of the platters themselves...as i had in the past been under the impression most were metal...commonly aluminum...so i did some looking...
My Findings...Very interesting.  I had also thought all platters were made of aluminum, but I guess in a few years all of our hard drives will be GLASS.they've been made of glass for around 20 or so years. Aluminum is a metal so it expanded and contracted quite a lot during power on and power off- this meant that recorded data might be "skewed" if read at a DIFFERENT temperature. This was why hard drives were so much more UNRELIABLE with older PCs such as XTs and early AT models, and required reformatting around once a year.WOW! I've never seen a HDD completely SCRUBBED CLEAN!

Hi Ever1 Here

I Need Help Releating My Life

I Wanted To Be A Weapon Designer

What Should Be My Degrees Or Qualifications
Im Currently Doing Computer Engineering.

Pls Help Me  I would first ask you age?  Then if your in school?
Some of the subjects, that I would be ;

The History of Weapons. This would tell you of some of the pitfalls, some of the designers had.  Welding, Machine Shop,  The Study of Metal.  Engineering, and Blueprinting.  And of course Math.

I would also read up on the different manufactures of firearms.

Firearm and Weapons, has advanced from the Flintlock and Black Powder,  but neverless, you still have to deal with pressures,

Hope this helps Code: [Select]I would first ask you age?

Why not ask your teacher? You're right joker. Mechanical Engineering courses will give you the fundamentals of Machining. It will probably go more into depth though with the Metallurgy and Blueprint reading courses.

The reason I say this is because I am a CNC Machinist/Programmer. When I was in college, the Engineering students had to take a few machining courses, but a majority of their time was spent learning about metals and blueprint drawing/reading. He's totally NUTS! obviously the Miltary doesn't intend to recruit people to actually go out and fight! NOPE! those advertisements and the RECRUITING officers are totally truthful when they say you can be put through mechanics and engineering school on their dime and never actually have to pay them BACK in any way such as serving in the very thing you enlisted in.

Oh, by the way, I'm being sarcastic. He's right. If you join the military- it doesn't matter what a recruiter promises, or whatever- you will almost certainly be deployed. That's why they send them through schools- so they can use them. Its not a free-ride like the recruiters promise.

I have absolutely no comment on the actual questions posed in this thread with regards to you trying to be a "weapons designer" because that's pretty much all I was able to gather from your incomprehensible posts. Speaking of that, perhaps you could develop a new cipher! Just retype messages for others so they become uninterpretable! the enemy will have one heck of a time!

You'll have to change your major if you want to design weapons/firearms. You better do it soon though so no more time/money is used on a degree you no longer want.Wow... this is a good one (conversation, I mean).

You weren't very specific when you referred to designing weapons, so everyone (INCLUDING me, initially) assumed you were talking about firearms and such. However, you are a computer engineering student, correct? In India. I don't know much about the Indian military system but am intimately familiar with the American one (having been a member and then civilian employee since 1997). In the States, if you join the military to pay for school, you really have to be a soldier first and then worry about being a student after you're done. I deployed four times, and am currently 10,500 km from home on another overseas tour... there isn't the kind of stability that one really needs to have to buckle down on an engineering degree.

All of that being said... is it advanced weapons systems that you're referring to? If so, continue your studies in computer engineering and find a mentor who knows what's going on (this is where the Army officers come in, perhaps) so that they can direct you.A lot of the high-tech weapons electronic systems are going to be supplied by private defense industry contractors. You might meet some at a career fair, or find some in the phone book, or visit the career counselling center at your local university.

Solve : Computer keyboard /mouse wear-and-tear?

Answer»

Just curious if anyone else out there has the same wear-and-tear situations with keyboard and mice I do. How many of you got keyboard keys that are worn out from typing on them? I've actually got a few myself and strangely I always seem to wear out the "N" and "M" keys the most. Usually I end up replacing the keyboards because anyone who gets on my computer complains they don't know where any of the letters are.

What keys are worn out on your keyboards if any?

Also the mouse I've got on this main computer has a worn finger print into it on the left mouse button.

I'm also curious if anyone happens to know of a keyboard that doesn't have this issue. Personally with all my searching I've never found such a thing. I thought my current Saitek keyboard wouldn't have the issue since the characters are not painted onto the keys. But later found out that each of the keys are actually painted around each of the characters to allow the glowing keyboard effect to come through the keys.

My E keys often fade...I've never done it on a computer keyboard, but I've had similar issues with test equipment.

A coat of clear nail polish on the TOP of a key will keep numbers, letters and words from wearing off.

You just want it on the very top of the key and be very CAREFUL about putting to much on to where it drips down off the key or you could really mess things up.Surprisingly, I've never had the numbers/letters rub off of any of my keys, and I've been using the same keyboard for about 10 years.  Of course, by TAKING a look at the way I type, it appears that my fingers rarely come in contact with the letters.  I almost always hit to the right side or the bottom.

As for my mouse...I've only had it for two or three years, I think, so not much wear there either.  However, I can see a smooth area where my finger goes, so perhaps the plastic is just a solid color rather than being painted.

If you want a keyboard that doesn't wear out, you could always get one of those laser-projection keyboards.  Of course, knowing you, you'd probably wear out the wood on your desk.  Heh.I've got a faded "L" key. LoL My keyboards LAST forever. Actually I've never had to buy a new one. Whatever comes with the computer lasts be it used or new.

The mouse however is another story. I need a new one about every other year. I don't spend a lot on them for that fact and have found that every Microsoft mouse I have bought usually out lasts anything else. Maybe their keyboards are as good?I go through about a mouse every 3 months. The scroll wheel keeps breaking.
Maybe because I keep buying cheap mice? Hmmm....

Good idea. However, wonder how this will feel when typing, will have to try this on an older keyboard.

I have but not through wear and tear like the keys rubbing off.

Whenever my keys faded, I usually stuck a sticker on it, until I had some free time and try to paint the letter back on using model paints. That really didn't last long.
Now, I use a set of editing stickers key cover things. They cost about £15 each, so luckily they last awhile. I rarely look at my keys when I'm typing other than the NUMBER pad. Quote from: patio on February 19, 2010, 09:55:28 AM
I've never managed to completely kill a Logitech...

I think that Logitech is behind the MS external hardware products. Logitech makes it, MS brands it. A win for both companies...If I look closely at the keys on my keyboard (may need to look at an angle to see this), there appears to be some coating surrounding the letters.  I imagine that's a clue to the durability of the letters on the keys.

I also figured out how to use the SNAP feature in dual screen. Press the ‌Windows logo key and either the Left arrow key or Right arrow key. Pretty handy!Looks awesome. Like your wallpaper too. First Brain Recordings. Fom Flying Fruit Flies.

Quote

ScienceDaily (Feb. 15, 2010) — Researchers at the CALIFORNIA Institute of TECHNOLOGY (Caltech) have obtained the first recordings of brain-cell activity in an actively flying fruit fly.

The work -- by MICHAEL Dickinson, the Esther M. and Abe M. Zarem Professor of Bioengineering, with postdoctoral scholars Gaby Maimon and Andrew Straw -- suggests that at least part of the brain of the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) "is in a different and more sensitive state during flight than when the fly is quiescent," Dickinson says.

A paper describing the research appears February 14 in the advance online EDITION of Nature Neuroscience.

I missed it...who won?
It's not important who wins or LOSES, it's important how much commercialism you can fit into half-time.Actually, half time was pretty good this year.  But the commercials were nothing special.  At 3 million $ for 30 seconds nobody spent anything extra on producing special commercials.Budweiser tried too hard.. There is a difference in being funny and trying to be funny. Did they show that Tim Tebo commercial? Was it shocking? They did before the game. It aired all day today.

Far from shocking.Saints won and I'd agree commercials SUCKED once again, actually enjoyed the game more than the commercials. Also it was refreshing and at the same time a little scary to see Google advertising. Why exactly are they needing to advertise when they're dominating the search market so much, unless of course Bing is biting into more of the search market then they're letting on.I think they are taking a SUBTLE approach to a full on ad campaign for their other ventures. Operating System, phone etc...I believe I'm the only one on earth who doesn't watch football... Dodgeball, paintball, laser tag, I'd take anything more interesting than the same sports played SINCE before my father was even born.

Mobiles lose their magic as calls fall for the first time

The number of calls made on mobile phones has fallen for the first time, according to new research.

The figures suggest that the novelty of constantly being in touch is finally starting to fade.

It will also be good news for those tired of having train journeys, visits to the cinema and restaurant meals disrupted by idle chat.

The research shows the average number of calls made by pre-pay customers each week has fallen from 14 in 2006 to ten this year - a drop of 28.5 per cent.

The figure for contract phone owners has dipped from 35 to 27 - a drop of 23 per cent.

It is the first time the number of calls has fallen since JD Power started the survey ten years ago.

The industry analysts found that text messages and EMAILS - which can be sent from some newer phones - are becoming more popular, possibly because they are cheap.

The average number of texts sent by contract customers rose from 32 a week to 46.

Lower call volumes have brought about a sharp fall in mobile phone bills. Monthly prepay costs have plunged from £19.29 in 2006 to £12.35 this year - a drop of 36 per cent.

Contract customers are spending 20 per cent less, £32.45 a month rather than £40.44.

JD Power's Caspar Tearle said: "Mobile phones have lost their position as a status symbol. At one time, people seemed to feel the need to justify the money spent on a mobile phone by USING it all the time. But that has gone.

"People apparently no longer feel the need to wave them around and make calls in a 'look at me' kind of way. They have taken on board the message that making calls can be seen as a nuisance and quite rude.

"As a result, many have switched to alternative silent ways of communication, such as text and email.

"Once texting was reserved for the young, now everyone is far more comfortable with it." He added: "People are also more conscious of making them selves a target for thieves and muggers by using their handsets to make calls without good reason."

Youngsters also seem to be less interested in mobile phones than in other gadgets such as MP3 music players, games consoles such as the Sony PlayStation and laptop computers which can play DVDs.

It is also possible that the latest handsets have so many functions, including mobile TELEVISION and music videos, that their owners have little time left to make calls.

The most advanced gadgets also double as personal organisers and Internet browsers, allowing users to log into their work emails.

The research, which was based on a survey of more than 2,000 people, ranked the major mobile networks in terms of customer satisfaction.

Virgin came out top for pre-pay phones ahead of O2 and Tesco. On contract phones, Virgin was again first, ahead of O2 and T-mobile.

The companies were assessed under six headings: image, offerings and promotions, call quality and NETWORK coverage, cost, range of handsets and customer service.

Networks have come under fire in recent months over the high cost of using handsets overseas.

The European COMMISSION and MEPs have outlined plans to cap the charges which can be as high as £1.50 a minute. A decision will be taken in the summer.
