Solve : Quote?

Answer»

Quote

First we thought the PC was a calculator. Then we found out how to turn numbers into letters with ASCII — and we thought it was a TYPEWRITER. Then we DISCOVERED graphics, and we thought it was a television. With the World Wide WEB, we've realized it's a brochure.

That pretty much sums up the current SITUATION, doesn't it? Yepper...That definatly paints the big PICTURE.

Solve : i have a question for BC_programmer?

Answer»

this is driving me crazy
what does your avatar say?
i thought it was ether base programming or basic programming
but i dont knowYes, you are one of many who have many, many questions for the BC_Programmer. I think it says base camp programmingActually it says "ask me about my Avatar"......or the always famous, "If you can read this, you're too CLOSE." hehe
its to small to see
i think teh avatars should ahve a zoom button
----edit----
computeruler you were right
but i laughed at patios
i got it
i used windows magnifier
it says
Base
Camp
programming
with funny colors and an odd picture behind it
you got the magnifier to read it
when will they make it so you click the little picture
and it doubles the size?i wonder where Quantos is? BASeCamp Programming

The capitalization is IMPORTANT! BAS, for BASic, and C... well, that goes without saying.

The avatar has been modified from it's original version- it has been formatted to fit within the width and height restrictions. This is the actual one:

and more logos:

another question
are you called BC_programmer because you like in BC ?
or are you called BC_programmer because you do Basic and C programming?
both?the BC stands for BASeCamp. Nothing else... the fact that it also matches my PROVINCE was pure coincidence.HOLD!!!

To inquire about the BC_Programmer merits the penalty of death!

Off to the IRON MAIDEN!! Slow down, blockHEAD...it kills us ENOUGH just to ask the questions...

Solve : Laptop or Desktop?

Answer»

Not true, its too prevent the majors from knowing things no, actually it increases the radio waves, and they said at MIT it was some government conspiracy to make it easier to do what ever they want to doI could see how that it would. But you think that would be true then can you trust the people running it?metal reflects electromagnetic radiation... how do you think radar works?MIT tested it though...beside the point. if MIT tested mirrors and said they didn't reflect light, would you believe that?Quote from: computeruler on August 16, 2009, 10:33:58 AM

At MIT they tested those and they do the opposite of what they are supposed to.

Thats what they would have you believe the greatest secret is the 100 thruth, I mean till you get the people in office there as much as a target as everyone else.Quote from: BC_Programmer on August 11, 2009, 06:40:36 PM
if you save often you won't lose much.

Heck, I've had the power go out or the system crash and force me to reboot several times, and I thought I had lost an hour or so of programming I had been doing... upon reopening the project, however, I find I lost nothing... and many times I've caught myself unconciously typing Alt+F, down arrow five times, enter to save... and when I say "often" I mean, basically everytime I stop typing.

I also never alt+tab from it without saving first.
when i am programming
evrey ten lines i press
ALT+F S
so if my computer crashes at most u lose ten lines no big dealQuote
so if my computer crashes at most u lose ten lines no big deal

why would I lose any code if your computer crashes?

Alt+F,S wouldn't work for me. it only saves the ACTIVE file.net book and desktopOk, What I meant was you would lose the file you were working on IF you hadn't saved it or it became corrupted because of the power cut.

I have a Desktop and it's PSU has failed, possibly because of a power cut, and that's been out of action for a YEAR and 4 months now, so in that respect I have lost files, I had to start from scratch when I got my laptop.

Hopefully my desktop will be in action again soon, but until then, my files are still "lost".

The battery on my Laptop is just basically a backup supply. If the power cuts out, it runs on battery power until I can safely shut it down, or it shuts itself down when battery percentage GETS below 10%. My laptop is hardly ever moved or used portably but when I start using my desktop again, I might have to rethink my strategy.a file isn't "lost" just because you can't afford or are too lazy to replace the power supply.

Also power supplies don't get damaged from a power cut- it's usually because of a sharp spike right as the power goes out that causes damage.

Which brings me to another point- the Power supply is designed to sacrifice itself to protect the rest of the PC- including the hard drive. had your PSU not "failed" you would have lost the files, and not in the superficial "cannot access them" way.

There were way too many possibilities to list- placing the desktop HD in a enclosure, for example - that would have allowed you access to these "lost" files, so as I said it's more a matter of how important the files are and in your case they cannot be that important if your willing to wait for a new PSU rather then spend 20-30 dollars on an enclosure.

However- regarding battery I do hear that. I've never lost data from a power outage... (not very frequent here, and I'm a compulsive saver) nor have any of my disks been damaged from them... Most of the time the PC shuts off because there is a brown-out for a second or two. My laptop, of course, is unaffected, because of the reasons you mention. Although I don't really use my laptop for much.Quote from: BC_Programmer on August 18, 2009, 04:38:42 AM

OK, I am not too lazy to replace the PSU, and I couldn't buy a caddy or PSU because I don't have to money to. Believe me, if I did have the money, I would have bought spares and replacements long before my PSU BURNED out. My friend is giving me her old computer which, although full of viruses, still has interchangeable components that I can use in my desktop. So not only would I have a new PSU (If the PSU doesn't fit in my desktop's shell I can then use her desktop's shell), I would also have a RAM upgrade if the RAM sticks are DDR, I may also replace my modem card with her sound card if it has one. It's a win-win situation. There is a little more too it then that.

I thought the exact same thing WELL because I had nothing better to do I thought I would compile some evidence of the questionability of this video:

Firstly when you SEE him slide down the ramp he is head first and whilst in the air he is feet first.

Secondly when he HITS the water there is a big splash over the side (our left) then it immediately zooms in with no water dripping off the wooden platform.

Lastly when he does hit the pool the plastic/rubber pool does not change shape which with the force he hit the water/pool would make the pool move over the platform and warp out of shape.

Still funny though!
There's a video of a "jet" vertically launching out of the water. I KNOW it's fake, but it looks legit.

The rest of the world cannot understand how, after bitter election campaigns, American politicians can kiss and make-up.

For instance, Gov. Palin has invited, to her great state of Alaska , the men who defeated her, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, along with their wives. She has set up a MOOSE hunting trip for their enjoyment and hired three prominent experts in their field to assist them.

*censored* Cheney will CARRY the gun, TED Kennedy will drive them back to their cabins each evening, and Bill Clinton will entertain their wives.

Sarah is such a sport and thinks of everything!

I don't know how its spelled, but it can be called plasti-wrap as well. Saran Wrap is a brand, just like Xerox and Google.

You're right - it is plastic wrap.

We use them as convenience, but it's really not correct. In fact, I seem to remember, years ago, that Xerox went after some people for copyright infringement for using "Xerox" instead of "photocopy."

Just like the way everyone calls adhesive bandages "Band-Aids", or everyone calls glass cleaner "Windex", or people who refer to any command line interface as "DOS".

Solve : PS2 Problems?

Answer»

Okay, so I'm working on my ps2 when I had a few problems. The thing is I have to clean the lense to get ps1 games to work. But I cant get it to read any cds. I used rubbing alchol but not sure if it will read ps1 since it comes up with the disc read error. Any ideas?Do what I did with my XBOX and take the thing apart. I did.You probably need to re-focus the lens. I don't know about slim PS2s since I have a fat one, but if you open up the drive at the top of it there should be a white gear. If you turn that it'll focus the lens, this takes some time as it is all trial and error.

Here is a guide I found.

I actually got my PS2 for free from a friend because it was broken. The tray was stuck, the lens was unfocused and dirty, the wire that goes from the power and eject buttons to the "motherboard"? was pulled out and the disc wouldn't spin. It's been working fine for like 3 years now.....i herd this of being a common problum and there is a easy way to fix it...?? How get ANOTHER then use the parts on a new one to fix the next? http://faqs.ign.com/articles/387/387912p1.htmlWell I'll try doing that tommorow, but I did try one thing an it did fix that one disc I had problems with. I spent 50.00 on it an it would have cost 15 to get a new one. So I can use that money on something else. Its not listing my model is a 39001 an only list a 30001 ver 4, not much differnece thought. However I went to go an fix this an cant figure out what they mean by expansion bay cover? There is a thing called the expansion bay which I looked at but he had SAID ribbon cables so I thought it ment the cd drive. But there are SEVERAL screws under it. I had to spend time putting back the ribbon cables. So I'm not sure.Just take out the PLASTIC and rubber squares from the bottom of the PS2 and unscrew all those screws, the top of the case should come off. Then unscrew the 4 tiny screws holding the top cover of the disc drive and take that off. Clean the lens and focus the laser with the white gear at the top of the drive. First take a marker and put a dot on the gear to show where it was originally, then turn the gear by 3 teeth in either direction. Put the cover of the drive on it and hold it down with your hand and SEE if it will read the disc. If not, turn the gear some more. Keep trying until it'll read all discs.

Love it. i love that commercial tooNice

UNFORTUNATELY, canadian discovery sucks so they don't have that commercial. They also get new episodes of mythbusters like half a year LATER than the american discovery which is really annoying. It's just Mythbusters...Canadians could be dealing with American health care... Canada's health care is only SAID to be free. They claim that everybody get's it for free, and yet the government keeps SENDING me bills for my "mandatory Health coverage", and of course, it's mandatory, so I can't opt out. Complete BS.Fine.

Come to America, where we spend more on health care PER PERSON than any other country in the world, and we still can't seem to get it right. Right now, I have no coverage, and am faced with the prospect that when it becomes available to me at my workplace, it's probably going to cost more than US $300 a month to cover the family.

Sorry -- I wish all I had to worry about was that I get old episodes of Mythbusters.

Solve : What a shame - IOC Caves to China Internet Censorship?

Answer» HTTP://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/149181/article.html?tk=nl_cxanws

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) admitted Wednesday that it made a deal with Chinese officials to accept censorship of the Internet during the Beijing Olympic Games, which begin August 8.

"IOC officials negotiated with the Chinese [so] that some sensitive sites would be blocked on the basis they were not considered Games-related," said Kevin Gosper, chairman of the IOC's press commission, according to press reports. "I regret that it now appears BOCOG [Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad] has announced that there will be limitations on Web site access during Games time," he added.

BOCOG's top spokesperson said Thursday that Web sites that are "banned" would remain so.

"If a few Web sites are difficult to browse, it's mainly because they have spread content that is banned by the Chinese laws," Sun WEIDE told the state-run Xinhua News Agency . "The Internet is regulated according to law in China, just like in other countries."

He called Internet access in China and during the Olympics "sufficient." "The channel is smooth for foreign journalists in Beijing to REPORT the Games and report China using the Internet," Sun said.

Press freedom groups reacted quickly to the admission.

"Yet ANOTHER broken promise," said Reporters Sans Frontieres (Reporters Without Borders, RSF) in a statement. "Coming just nine days before the opening ceremony, this is yet another provocation by the Chinese authorities. This situation increases our concern that there will be many cases of censorship during the games. We condemn the IOC's failure to do anything about this, and we are more than sceptical about its ability to 'ensure' that the media are able to report freely."

RSF's Web site is blocked to users in China.

"The Chinese government's controls on the Internet are contrary to the free reporting environment promised by the hosts and contradict International Olympic Commission assurances that the press will be able to operate as at previous games. Thousands of visiting journalists will now get to experience the censorship that reporters and other Internet users in China have to put up with every day," said a statement on the Web site of the Foreign Correspondents Club of China, an association of China-based foreign journalists.

China's insistence on Internet censorship violates assurances given to the IOC at various points, most recently in April. "We were satisfied by the assurances we received across a number of areas -- media service levels, including Internet access, brand protection, environmental contingency plans for improved air quality, and the live broadcast feed," said IOC Coordination Commission Chairman Hein Verbruggen [cq] during his final pre-games visit to Beijing in April.

China blocks access to Web sites containing pornography, violence, and anti-government material, including political views opposing the Chinese Communist Party, and those expressing support for independence for Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.
Good THING their laws don't apply here.

I'm not dead or anything. My parents have admitted me to a treatment program for substance abuse and bipolar disorder. I have just barely come to the point in the program where I am allowed to get online, so I figured I'd let all of you guys KNOW.

Take care.HAHA okay

thx

I've been on 6 different medications for this, only 1 has actually worked. I know you don't, but I believe that it's real...I've known all sorts of people with ADD, ADHD, and various types of depressions.
One who had severe ADHD... he used to punch me on the shoulder every day without even thinking about it... my shoulder is very resistant to punches.

I can tell you, its not fake.
There is such as thing as a miss-diagnosis, however, if you are self aware, you should be able to figure out if your doctor is telling you the right thing, especially when it comes to your mind.

Its nice to hear from you again, SilentAssasin. Thanks for checking in. I have an anxiety disorder from my 10 years and 9 months in the Army.

Service connected disability.

I have been waiting 28 years for the Army and VA to do anything about it.

A few months back I was assigned Service connected status.

In OCTOBER I will know the amount of disability pay I get.

I now have free medical through VA..

I applied in 1983 with the same information and was denied..Go figure.

Anyway sorry about the long response about me.

Hope all goes well for you...SilentAssasin64.Just hang in there.

Robert

Ask the folks at the clinic for...Toliver Gravy And Liverscuits and let me
know how they react..... It's not fake, PF...it's a combination of a lot of things.

In some CASES, we can now better understand brain function to see that some of these disorders are really problems for a certain amount of the population. For these people, I hope they get the care and medicines they truly need.

Yes, too many have been given these drugs when perhaps other methods are a better answer.

You can hardly blame people, in a way, anymore. My generation wasn't bombarded with media -- especially with videos that deliberately change the image every six seconds so the audience won't be "bored." Instead of a set of building blocks or Tinkertoys, kids get plunked in front of a television for "kids programming" or video games. No wonder they can't sit still and read a book, or learn a lesson. They don't know how.

Quote

Dont you think it could be a simple BRAT acting up? all he needs is heavy heavy punishment and your problem will be solved!

That kind of discipline isn't popular, anymore. When I was a kid, the teachers could hit a student. Sometimes, that got ABUSED, but I remember there was less trouble in the classroom. I'm not saying hitting and abuse are the answers, but these days, the old style disciplines make parents wind up in courtrooms.

Nowadays, kids act like little adults, because that's what our society has comes to.

Thanks for the update, SA64. I'm glad to hear that you are getting help and I hope everything goes well. And nevermind the conspiracy theories.oh. that must suck dude. i abuse medications sometimes. i dont wanna go to a program though lol.Good to hear from you again SilentAssasin64 and thanks for the update hope you're getting better and things are working out for you.

Solve : Bernie Mac dies at 50.?

Answer» http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obit_bernie_mac;_ylt=Am7Saf73yzGhTlZgzly1SHes0NUE

Quote
Bernie Mac blended style, authority and a touch of self-aware bluster to make audiences laugh as well as connect with him. For Mac, who died Saturday at age 50, it was a winning mix, delivering him from a POOR childhood to STARDOM as a standup comedian, in films including the casino heist caper "Ocean's ELEVEN" and his acclaimed sitcom "The Bernie Mac Show."

Though his comedy drew on tough experiences as a black man, he had mainstream appeal — befitting inspiration he found in a wide range of humorists: Harpo Marx as well as Moms Mabley; squeaky-clean Red Skelton, but also the raw REDD Foxx.

Mac died Saturday morning of complications from pneumonia in a Chicago-area hospital, his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles.

"The world just got a little less funny," said "Oceans" co-star George Clooney.

Does ANYONE know where to contact some human high in the change of command at AT&T? I tried Google and no luck. I am overcharged on international calls, charged much higher than what I was TOLD when I added international call package. They now tell me that the charge is higher for calling a cell phone, no one told me that. We farm and do not have the two hundred extra dollars. Please can someone that is very computer/internet savvy tell me where to go to find a higher -up at AT&T.Call AT&T And talk to a Representative.
If they cant/wont help you, ask to talk to their manager. Don't get carried away with yourself though, I realize a lot of situations like that can be frustrating. Keeping a neutral tone is important when it comes to dealing with representatives.

I understand what its like when it comes to farming, budget wise. I grew up on a farm. Banks never WANT to GIVE you money, cant make enough of it, work work work.

If that fails, and they wont help you, call or visit the Better Business Bureau, and report them.

This version is so cool!!! When you die, the game.... well, I'll let you find out for yourself. Each wave lasts a certain amount of time, each time increasing by two seconds. See how far you can get, and how many meteors you can destroy! Have fun!

Solve : DeskFlag places an animated United States flag on your screen?

Answer»

With July 4th approaching, here's a neat little flag to put on your computer screen desktop. It puts a little waving American Flag on a pole down in the right hand bottom corner of your screen. Very COOL, neat and out of the WAY. It's also transparent so that you can see what's under it; the transparency can be adjusted to your preference. You can also set it to not display on top of any open application.

To get it, visit http://www.deskflag.com/ and click on the link to Download DeskFlag and download DeskFlag 1.0.3. For a glimpse of how it looks, minus the animation (waving): http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/farmpond/forums/DeskFlag.jpgI got it and put it on me and the wifes computer.

Solve : displaying numerous "puter mice" any ideas ??

Answer»

I want to make a cool looking display with LIKE 12 different mice- from a real old Logitech female serial mouse to the new wireless. Any ideas on a cool WAY to display them /
My first was to hang them some way from the wall behind my chair( behind me if I was facing forward towards my puter setup). Its a small LITTLE bedroom. I seriously doubt that that you could get that many connected. Each mouse would have to have its own connection, and loading multiple drivers and mice could cause serious conflict. It might be possible (I wouldn't do it) to connect multiple mice through an externally powered USB hub. If you don't actually want the pointers to move, do a print screen of the desktop, paste it into a graphics editing program, then copy and paste the pointer all over the IMAGE. Save it and use it as the background.

edit: print screen does not capture the pointer. How 'bout a large oversized clock with the connectors running to the center ? ?How about putting them in a hamster cage and have them all coexist. I don't know how to get one to run on the little wheel though
But keep the wireless away from the rest so thy don't mate LMfreakin A OFF "2k_dummy"
though hanging from a wall and able to easily take off could serve that purpose...

Vic E was right on, something ARTISTIC/ sureal not actually "usable"..lol

Ha, thanks reaper and Nathan. And actually, it was shelf paper, but that's pretty DARN close. Good memory! Good to hear you got something better and I THINK $170 for a birthday is a lot, can buy a lot with that. Yeah, I guess $170 is a pretty decent chunk of cash for not doing anything. I'm just stingy and want lots of money. Ha. However, with any luck, I will hopefully be working at a pharmacy next week.maybe with the $170 you should try to find a good wireless router, and USE someone nearby's broadband that'll solve your little dial up problem I've already tried that. Ha. Nobody in my neck o' the woods has broadband.

I may get broadband if I start working, but I really don't want to have to pay $50US a month.

You are judged by how helpful you are and the content of your posts rather than how many you make.i know, further proving my point... my stats are crap compared to you guys if you asked me how to single-fingerdly (ha! single-fingerdly... well i thought it was funny..) take apart the CODE of a virus to figure out how to get rid of it completely i'd be lost... or ask me to make an OS and i'd be even more lost... anything about networking, i'm lost... that's why i just try to help with whatever i can, but, comparatively, meh... i actually can't think of a single thread i've actually been part of solving lol..Quote

anything about networking, i'm lost.
Anything beyond the simple network I have gets me lost as well.
So you see, just read a lot of posts and learn.
Find what you're good at and help people with that whilst you learn about other topics.well good point i've been trying and it gets a lot easier to understand lots of aspects of certain topics once there have been a few threads about it... it's probably going to help me doing an IT course in uni too, which means i'll be able to answer a lot more of the problems here fairly soon Grats and thanks for STICKING around. Since the forums have only been up for just over four YEARS one or more years is a real accomplishment. Nice job ULW !unlovedwarrior...

Happy Anniversary! I hope you have many more...

I can't do dumbest so,I will do the one I don't like.

My Cpu doesn't work. My CPU is always noisy.

Somewhere back, people started calling their computer
a CPU. That's my least favourite of all things that can
be said by someone posting for help.my printer doesn't work ... Ok what kind is it? It is an x2 g-e-n
Sorry that is what kind of computer monitor you have can you turn around and look at the thing that the paper spits out of. What does it say on the top of it.

It doesn't say anything on it..... Oh you mean the thing that prints on the paper! i thought you meant the tray we keep paper in

I work at a help desk......... not everyone is on the ball i guess.here be a snippit of an #irc convo i happily enjoyed a while ago, with the names changed for the sake of feminism.. no.. greenpeaace.. that's not it.. ah! privacy. or something. goes something like this:

yeah sorry about the bad choice in names, it was early
but yeah ''charlie brown'' was being pretty childish most of the time he was on irc and i ended up needing to ban him from ''#noobchat''...
it's people like that who we don't need on forums like this, which is (based on my experience with other forums) going really well, and is a great source of help and information.
but people like ''bob citizen'' also need to elaborate on certain points, including those related to language deficiencies...
he ended up coming back on later though and explaining (in his own way) that he is actually french but has been LEARNING english for 6 years (i figured that was long enough but ok), so we ended up coming to the conclusion that the problem was indeed that he had really dusty fans due to the case being open all day every day for close to a year, stopping the fans from spinning properly
never heard back from him after we gave him further advice though...

but still, nice enough guy, who didn't need instructions on how to screw his computer up Quote from: CBMatt on June 27, 2007, 11:07:54 AM

lol man
you made my day just with that comment Contrary to popular beliefs...there are "stupid" and/or "dumb" questions...regardless of what anyone else thinks...

For instance...

A man works in a munitions dump...pulls out a cigarette and asks the guy standing next to him..."Gotta light?"Quote from: The Saviour on June 27, 2007, 01:31:20 PM

well... it's not a stupid question if he actually doesn't know if the man next to him has a light or not.
he could also be a suicidal maniac, in which case, it's actually a rather productive question.
not that i promote suicide or anything This got so close to the guy rolling in the yard and laughing.

His neighbor comes by and says"What are you doing rolling
around in the yard laughing ? Your house is burning down!

Guy looks up and says "That okay.I have enough wood in the
attic to build another one".

Good old Bubba...LOLlol... i wish i had an attic so i could try that one..

hey wow we're back on topic.
as for the INSTALLER package... *thumbs up*
i'd use that
The "Installa Guide" would be in Qbasic, and the CALLING scripts would be batch....

Excited yet?
I CERTAINLY hope not!

I dont think I would have enough time to do something like that, but I know that it would be a great project for me

  • Qbaisic starts a batch extractor to EMPTY a ZIP directory into C:\vsapack_temp\
  • Deletes the junk ZIP file
  • Opens the second setup.exe file (located in the VSApack directory)
  • Asks what you want
  • Creates a executable script to call the batch files
  • Runs the wonderful script
  • ^Consequently, starting the first EXE (eg: avast), waiting for it to end, and starting the second one
  • ^^I suppose you could add a startup item to run the next one as well after restarting, who knows
  • ^^^Most installers have syntax that allow you to do an auto install and bypass restarting....
  • Keep DREAMING, everyone
aww... keep dreaming?

Mozart, Bach, Strauss, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, amongst others. Real music that engages mind, body, and soul.

It actually takes a lot of talent to scream for long periods of time without completely effing up your vocal chords whilst making it sound GOOD...

I have no way of expressing how true that is
But doesnt that kind of ruin the value of getting your notes right?
I mean:
The professional goes C D E F G A B C
The screamer goes A C G G G G G G G G G G G A A A A A A A A A A A E E E E
(and a few sharps) you must have been listening to slayer... i think i know that song...
but for example... james hetfield of metallica has been criticised time and time again for being too passionate with his ''screaming'', because he was hitting a bunch of notes perfectly... this kind of criticism is stupid, and has since been wiped out by bands such as disturbed, whose lead singer is QUITE talented and has lots of screamo moments mixed with hard to hit high and lows....
but ok...Which ever ban has the FOLLOWING lyrics:

Solve : Time Reduction?

Zylstra, even if I wanted to KIDNAP you, I'd still have to figure out what city/neighborhood/house you live in. And I have neither the time nor the money. I don't even have enough money to feed you. Besides, I've got a girlfriend, so I don't need a purty little thing like you. Heh.

To get a permit, I had to take a written test. Then before I could get my license, I had to take the class and drive with a coach. And then I had to take another written test along with the driving test (the easiest part of the whole thing). Everyone kept TELLING me that because I was 18, I could just go in and take the driving test, but DMV said otherwise.

Anyway, good luck with your license. I just hope you don't have a bunch of friends who can't drive...or it will become one of the biggest hassles of your life. Ha.Quote from: CBMatt on July 01, 2007, 01:19:28 AM
