Answer» Quote First we thought the PC was a calculator. Then we found out how to turn numbers into letters with ASCII and we thought it was a TYPEWRITER. Then we DISCOVERED graphics, and we thought it was a television. With the World Wide WEB, we've realized it's a brochure. That pretty much sums up the current SITUATION, doesn't it? Yepper...That definatly paints the big PICTURE. |

Solve : Laptop or Desktop? |
|
Answer» Not true, its too prevent the majors from knowing things no, actually it increases the radio waves, and they said at MIT it was some government conspiracy to make it easier to do what ever they want to doI could see how that it would. But you think that would be true then can you trust the people running it?metal reflects electromagnetic radiation... how do you think radar works?MIT tested it though...beside the point. if MIT tested mirrors and said they didn't reflect light, would you believe that?Quote from: computeruler on August 16, 2009, 10:33:58 AM At MIT they tested those and they do the opposite of what they are supposed to. Thats what they would have you believe the greatest secret is the 100 thruth, I mean till you get the people in office there as much as a target as everyone else.Quote from: BC_Programmer on August 11, 2009, 06:40:36 PM if you save often you won't lose much.when i am programming evrey ten lines i press ALT+F S so if my computer crashes at most u lose ten lines no big dealQuote so if my computer crashes at most u lose ten lines no big deal why would I lose any code if your computer crashes? Alt+F,S wouldn't work for me. it only saves the ACTIVE file.net book and desktopOk, What I meant was you would lose the file you were working on IF you hadn't saved it or it became corrupted because of the power cut. I have a Desktop and it's PSU has failed, possibly because of a power cut, and that's been out of action for a YEAR and 4 months now, so in that respect I have lost files, I had to start from scratch when I got my laptop. Hopefully my desktop will be in action again soon, but until then, my files are still "lost". The battery on my Laptop is just basically a backup supply. If the power cuts out, it runs on battery power until I can safely shut it down, or it shuts itself down when battery percentage GETS below 10%. My laptop is hardly ever moved or used portably but when I start using my desktop again, I might have to rethink my strategy.a file isn't "lost" just because you can't afford or are too lazy to replace the power supply. Also power supplies don't get damaged from a power cut- it's usually because of a sharp spike right as the power goes out that causes damage. Which brings me to another point- the Power supply is designed to sacrifice itself to protect the rest of the PC- including the hard drive. had your PSU not "failed" you would have lost the files, and not in the superficial "cannot access them" way. There were way too many possibilities to list- placing the desktop HD in a enclosure, for example - that would have allowed you access to these "lost" files, so as I said it's more a matter of how important the files are and in your case they cannot be that important if your willing to wait for a new PSU rather then spend 20-30 dollars on an enclosure. However- regarding battery I do hear that. I've never lost data from a power outage... (not very frequent here, and I'm a compulsive saver) nor have any of my disks been damaged from them... Most of the time the PC shuts off because there is a brown-out for a second or two. My laptop, of course, is unaffected, because of the reasons you mention. Although I don't really use my laptop for much.Quote from: BC_Programmer on August 18, 2009, 04:38:42 AM a file isn't "lost" just because you can't afford or are too lazy to replace the power supply. OK, I am not too lazy to replace the PSU, and I couldn't buy a caddy or PSU because I don't have to money to. Believe me, if I did have the money, I would have bought spares and replacements long before my PSU BURNED out. My friend is giving me her old computer which, although full of viruses, still has interchangeable components that I can use in my desktop. So not only would I have a new PSU (If the PSU doesn't fit in my desktop's shell I can then use her desktop's shell), I would also have a RAM upgrade if the RAM sticks are DDR, I may also replace my modem card with her sound card if it has one. It's a win-win situation. There is a little more too it then that. |

Quote from: computeruler on August 16, 2009, 03:38:49 PM I didnt even read the comments of it. Lol they were just very simmilar to a guy's comments on the first page Fox news thinks its fake. that was pretty good Mulreay.. The first thing that came to mind was how on earth did they make the guy land in the pool? If it is real, I wonder how many tries to took them... What if the guy hit the wood platform instead of the landing in the pool? How painful! Quote from: blockHEAD on August 16, 2009, 10:20:01 PM What if the guy hit the wood platform instead of the landing in the pool? How painful! I thought the exact same thing WELL because I had nothing better to do I thought I would compile some evidence of the questionability of this video: Firstly when you SEE him slide down the ramp he is head first and whilst in the air he is feet first. Secondly when he HITS the water there is a big splash over the side (our left) then it immediately zooms in with no water dripping off the wooden platform. Lastly when he does hit the pool the plastic/rubber pool does not change shape which with the force he hit the water/pool would make the pool move over the platform and warp out of shape. Still funny though! There's a video of a "jet" vertically launching out of the water. I KNOW it's fake, but it looks legit. |

Perhaps I am not understanding a joke here but you are only an uncle of your (or your wife's) brother's or sister's children, and your status as uncle is the same whether the children are male or female. Anyhow, congratulations. Congratulations ! ! So are you Napolean Solo or Ilya Kurayakin ? ?My cousin had a MAN From U.N.C.L.E. agent's outfit which included a secret code book, an agent's badge, a plastic gun, a U.N.C.L.E. ID card... Solve : PS2 Problems? |
|
Answer» Okay, so I'm working on my ps2 when I had a few problems. The thing is I have to clean the lense to get ps1 games to work. But I cant get it to read any cds. I used rubbing alchol but not sure if it will read ps1 since it comes up with the disc read error. Any ideas?Do what I did with my XBOX and take the thing apart. I did.You probably need to re-focus the lens. I don't know about slim PS2s since I have a fat one, but if you open up the drive at the top of it there should be a white gear. If you turn that it'll focus the lens, this takes some time as it is all trial and error. |

Answer» http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5BxymuiAxQ Love it. i love that commercial tooNice UNFORTUNATELY, canadian discovery sucks so they don't have that commercial. They also get new episodes of mythbusters like half a year LATER than the american discovery which is really annoying. It's just Mythbusters...Canadians could be dealing with American health care... Canada's health care is only SAID to be free. They claim that everybody get's it for free, and yet the government keeps SENDING me bills for my "mandatory Health coverage", and of course, it's mandatory, so I can't opt out. Complete BS.Fine. Come to America, where we spend more on health care PER PERSON than any other country in the world, and we still can't seem to get it right. Right now, I have no coverage, and am faced with the prospect that when it becomes available to me at my workplace, it's probably going to cost more than US $300 a month to cover the family. Sorry -- I wish all I had to worry about was that I get old episodes of Mythbusters. |

Solve : What a shame - IOC Caves to China Internet Censorship? |
|
Answer» HTTP://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/149181/article.html?tk=nl_cxanws The International Olympic Committee (IOC) admitted Wednesday that it made a deal with Chinese officials to accept censorship of the Internet during the Beijing Olympic Games, which begin August 8. "IOC officials negotiated with the Chinese [so] that some sensitive sites would be blocked on the basis they were not considered Games-related," said Kevin Gosper, chairman of the IOC's press commission, according to press reports. "I regret that it now appears BOCOG [Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad] has announced that there will be limitations on Web site access during Games time," he added. BOCOG's top spokesperson said Thursday that Web sites that are "banned" would remain so. "If a few Web sites are difficult to browse, it's mainly because they have spread content that is banned by the Chinese laws," Sun WEIDE told the state-run Xinhua News Agency . "The Internet is regulated according to law in China, just like in other countries." He called Internet access in China and during the Olympics "sufficient." "The channel is smooth for foreign journalists in Beijing to REPORT the Games and report China using the Internet," Sun said. Press freedom groups reacted quickly to the admission. "Yet ANOTHER broken promise," said Reporters Sans Frontieres (Reporters Without Borders, RSF) in a statement. "Coming just nine days before the opening ceremony, this is yet another provocation by the Chinese authorities. This situation increases our concern that there will be many cases of censorship during the games. We condemn the IOC's failure to do anything about this, and we are more than sceptical about its ability to 'ensure' that the media are able to report freely." RSF's Web site is blocked to users in China. "The Chinese government's controls on the Internet are contrary to the free reporting environment promised by the hosts and contradict International Olympic Commission assurances that the press will be able to operate as at previous games. Thousands of visiting journalists will now get to experience the censorship that reporters and other Internet users in China have to put up with every day," said a statement on the Web site of the Foreign Correspondents Club of China, an association of China-based foreign journalists. China's insistence on Internet censorship violates assurances given to the IOC at various points, most recently in April. "We were satisfied by the assurances we received across a number of areas -- media service levels, including Internet access, brand protection, environmental contingency plans for improved air quality, and the live broadcast feed," said IOC Coordination Commission Chairman Hein Verbruggen [cq] during his final pre-games visit to Beijing in April. China blocks access to Web sites containing pornography, violence, and anti-government material, including political views opposing the Chinese Communist Party, and those expressing support for independence for Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. Good THING their laws don't apply here. |

Answer» I'm not dead or anything. My parents have admitted me to a treatment program for substance abuse and bipolar disorder. I have just barely come to the point in the program where I am allowed to get online, so I figured I'd let all of you guys KNOW. Dont you think it could be a simple BRAT acting up? all he needs is heavy heavy punishment and your problem will be solved! That kind of discipline isn't popular, anymore. When I was a kid, the teachers could hit a student. Sometimes, that got ABUSED, but I remember there was less trouble in the classroom. I'm not saying hitting and abuse are the answers, but these days, the old style disciplines make parents wind up in courtrooms. Nowadays, kids act like little adults, because that's what our society has comes to. Thanks for the update, SA64. I'm glad to hear that you are getting help and I hope everything goes well. And nevermind the conspiracy theories.oh. that must suck dude. i abuse medications sometimes. i dont wanna go to a program though lol.Good to hear from you again SilentAssasin64 and thanks for the update hope you're getting better and things are working out for you. |

They now tell me that the charge is higher for calling a cell phone, no one told me that. We farm and do not have the two hundred extra dollars. Please can someone that is very computer/internet savvy tell me where to go to find a higher -up at AT&T.Call AT&T And talk to a Representative. |

Solve : Meteor Strike - v1.1? |
|
Answer» Meteor Strike Another one of my games. Please post some feedback of what you think (and read the Readme file). EDIT: Just noticed that you can easily win if you use smart bombs. Gotta restrict that...Dude, that GAME is retarded......... I LIKE IT!!!!! Lol, fun way to pass by the time. Nice creativity.Fun good job on the game and the readme looked good. Some sound effects and music would be icing on the cake. OK, updated now. Probably version 1.1. The only thing is that I don't have a title screen or anything like that (my friend does stuff like that, but I haven't talked to him all weekend). This version is so cool!!! When you die, the game.... well, I'll let you find out for yourself. Each wave lasts a certain amount of time, each time increasing by two seconds. See how far you can get, and how many meteors you can destroy! Have fun! Meteor StrikeYour game is very good. My high score is 581 meteors.Thanks. What wave did you get up to?The last time I looked at the wave indicator, it was 15. It might have gone up to 16 after I looked. nice game dude the TURRET reminds me of something from star wars i got 114 meteors and like wave 7 |

Solve : DeskFlag places an animated United States flag on your screen? |

Answer» With July 4th approaching, here's a neat little flag to put on your computer screen desktop. It puts a little waving American Flag on a pole down in the right hand bottom corner of your screen. Very COOL, neat and out of the WAY. It's also transparent so that you can see what's under it; the transparency can be adjusted to your preference. You can also set it to not display on top of any open application. Heh She's so patriotic.....COLyay! finally some patriotic appreciation for my country.. oh wait.. wrong flag..Quote from: reaper_tbs on June 18, 2007, 01:36:43 AM yay! finally some patriotic appreciation for my country.. oh wait.. wrong flag..Heh, lol. Solve : displaying numerous "puter mice" any ideas ?? |

Answer» I want to make a cool looking display with LIKE 12 different mice- from a real old Logitech female serial mouse to the new wireless. Any ideas on a cool WAY to display them / How about putting them in a hamster cage and have them all coexist. I don't know how to get one to run on the little wheel though Oh jeez...something like that would probably slay Ashley Ashley. I say you make a little computer mouse graveyard.Well, that throws my 12 legged spider idea out the window. Three blind mice..won't work. Twelve days of Christmas was a fading idea. Working with someone like "bob citizen" can be a bit frustrating, but it's not an excuse to be rude and give potentially harmful advice.yeah sorry about the bad choice in names, it was early but yeah ''charlie brown'' was being pretty childish most of the time he was on irc and i ended up needing to ban him from ''#noobchat''... it's people like that who we don't need on forums like this, which is (based on my experience with other forums) going really well, and is a great source of help and information. but people like ''bob citizen'' also need to elaborate on certain points, including those related to language deficiencies... he ended up coming back on later though and explaining (in his own way) that he is actually french but has been LEARNING english for 6 years (i figured that was long enough but ok), so we ended up coming to the conclusion that the problem was indeed that he had really dusty fans due to the case being open all day every day for close to a year, stopping the fans from spinning properly never heard back from him after we gave him further advice though... but still, nice enough guy, who didn't need instructions on how to screw his computer up Quote from: CBMatt on June 27, 2007, 11:07:54 AM I'm mainly referring to charlie_brown. For instance... A man works in a munitions dump...pulls out a cigarette and asks the guy standing next to him..."Gotta light?"Quote from: The Saviour on June 27, 2007, 01:31:20 PM Contrary to popular beliefs...there are "stupid" and/or "dumb" questions...regardless of what anyone else thinks...well... it's not a stupid question if he actually doesn't know if the man next to him has a light or not. he could also be a suicidal maniac, in which case, it's actually a rather productive question. not that i promote suicide or anything This got so close to the guy rolling in the yard and laughing. His neighbor comes by and says"What are you doing rolling around in the yard laughing ? Your house is burning down! Guy looks up and says "That okay.I have enough wood in the attic to build another one". Good old Bubba...LOLlol... i wish i had an attic so i could try that one.. |
