Solve : isp cuts of file sharing? |
|
Answer» http://uk.news.yahoo.com/16/20090724/ttc-hull-isp-cuts-off-suspected-file-sha-6315470.html is this the start of something that will spreadIf my isp did that, I would switch to a different isp, and urge every single person to switch to a different isp and make them go out of business. They will never ever get rid of file sharing, unless they PUT almost every single person in jail. Really, how many people that use a computer, have never ever downloaded at least one song by illegal means? I think they should stop wasting their time going after people DOWNLOADING stuff illegally, unless they sell it. They should go after KILLERS and people like that. Like the fbi. They dont waste their time going after people that download a song illegally or something. Maybe if they get a tip that someone is selling it and stuff...We'll just find another way around it. There are too many legal reasons for file sharing to have that be succesful. |

Yeah just had a look 'the unix MILLENIUM bug'. Not entirely sure what it would mean to me. Not that savvy on this kind of stuff.UNIX? It affects windows too. but only old programs. MS changed it so that "time_t" was a 64-bit value rather then 32-bit, but programs compiled before that will still encounter the problem. Solve : Post your favorite oldies song.? |

Answer» Title says it all. I just WANT to know what oldies you listen to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irp8CNj9qBI Too FAMOUS. I'd have to go with either Killer Queen Or Death On two legs.... OR seven Seas of rhye... or... hmm. so many to choose from, and that's just one band!Wow. I agree with BC, too famous. But it is still a REALLY fun song to listen to. I can never fully comprehend the chorus chorus? a chorus is usually a repeated part, Bohemian RHAPSODY doesn't have a lot of repetition. Bohemian Rhapsody has like No chorus! It's 3 parts ballad, sorta-opera,and hard rock. Not many lines are repeated. For me, I'm not sure what song. If you ask me about a band, I'd say The Beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=410xr2j-4n4&feature=related You guys probably never heard of Blood Sweat and tears...Never heard of them?!? I have the album that song is on http://www.myspace.com/twistedsister i'm an oldie but i like themtop this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ou-6A3MKowBreakfast in America.Alice Cooper - School's out 1972 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeZxRYXZ154wow. Answer» Today is the date that Doc Brown (Back to the FUTURE II) set in the Delorean 26/10/10. Just thought I would throw that out there.and just think it was built right here in BELFAST 2 miles from where i liveQuote from: harry 48 on October 26, 2010, 10:23:59 AM and just think it was built right here in BELFAST 2 miles from where i live Well I never knew that. I must admit. I was a fan of this movie. MJfox and Lea Thompson was a perfect combination + Christopher Lloyd is a hit, sadly he will be missed Quote from: Mulreay on October 26, 2010, 10:26:07 AM Well I never knew that. John DeLorean caused the downfall of the company which was very successful with a good work force during the troubles because everyone needed and wanted work The DeLorean DMC-12 is a sports car that was originally manufactured in Northern Ireland by John DeLorean's DeLorean Motor Company for the American market in 1981–1982. It is most commonly known simply as the DeLorean, as it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels were affixed. A modified version of the car became iconic for its appearance as a time machine in the Back to the Future film franchise. The first prototype appeared in March 1976, and production officially began in 1981 (with the first DMC-12 rolling off the production line on January 21) at the DMC factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. During its production, several features of the car were changed, such as the hood (bonnet) style, wheels and interior. Approximately 9,000 [1] DMC-12s were made before production stopped in late 1982. Today, about 6,500 DeLorean Motor Cars are believed to still exist.[2] Texas entrepreneur Stephen Wynne started a separate company using the "Delorean Motor Company" name after acquiring the remaining parts inventory of DeLorean Motor Company. The company and factory stock were acquired privately in 1997 and made-to-measure new build cars can still be purchased.[3] The primary facility opened in 2008 in Humble, Texas. Additional facilities are currently located in Bonita SPRINGS, Florida, Crystal Lake, Illinois, Bellevue, Washington, and Garden Grove, California.[4] The current Delorean Motor Company is not, and has never been, associated with the original company but supports owners of DeLorean cars. read more below http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeLorean_DMC-12 The sting operation mounted by the FBI -- in conjunction with the DEA, Customs Service, and the police departments of Ventura and Los Angeles, California -- sounded like a plot straight out of Miami VICE. But this was the real deal, and it snared the legendary John Zachary DeLorean, a man People Weekly described as the Auto Prince, the "Detroit dream merchant." On October 26, 1982, DeLorean was arrested for putting up $1.8 million to bring 100 kilos of cocaine into the United States. DeLorean stood to make $24 million from the deal, and he told a confidential informant (CI) for the FBI that he intended using the proceeds to salvage his dream, the DeLorean Motor Company, which faced ruin. The son of a Ford factory worker, DeLorean grew up on Detroit's east side during the Depression. Earning an engineering degree at the Lawrence Institute of Technology and, later, a couple of master's degrees in engineering and business, he worked for Chrysler and Packard Motor Car Company before moving to General Motors, where he made his mark in the early Sixties by creating the Pontiac GTO. The GTO was immensely popular with young drivers, and nearly 250,000 of the fast and classy "hot rods" were sold in the first five years of production. Pontiac's sales tripled, and before long DeLorean was in charge of North American operations, bringing home a $650,000 annual salary. "People either loved him or hated him," said business journalist J. Patrick Wright, who penned the 1979 DeLorean memoir, On A Clear Day You Can See General Motors. DeLorean was vain, impulsive and sometimes overbearing. He wore trendy clothes and earned a reputation as a swinger after his second divorce, when he started dating celebrity beauties like Ursula Andress and Raquel Welch. In 1972 he met supermodel Christina Ferrare, who was half his age, and she moved in with him. Detroit did not approve of DeLorean's lifestyle, so in 1973 he "fired GM" and set off on his own. The DeLorean myth grew. He was a MAVERICK, a risk taker, and he had bold dreams. Marrying Christina, DeLorean dabbled in real estate, car dealerships and miniature race cars. But what he really wanted to do was start his own car company and break the hold that Ford, Chrysler and GM had on the American auto industry. The SPORTY DMC-12, he thought, would do the trick. The sleek stainless-steel sports car with the distinctive gull-wing doors boasted a 130hp Renault engine and could go from zero to 60mph in eight seconds. DeLorean needed $175 million to finance his dream. Over one hundred investors, including Johnny Carson and Sammy Davis, Jr., put over $12 million into a partnership for research and development while the British government produced $156 million in grants and loans in return for DeLorean locating the DMC factory in Northern Ireland. (Britain liked the idea of creating 2,000 new jobs in a region suffering a 20 percent unemployment rate.) DeLorean risked relatively little of his own money -- $700,000 is the best estimate -- but he seemed to have made his dream come true. The Auto Prince lived like royalty in a $7.2 million, 20-room Fifth Avenue duplex, a $3.5 million estate in New Jersey and a $4 million California ranch. He made sure DMC's $25,000-a-month New York offices were located in a skyscraper that towered as high as the nearby GM building. He paid himself nearly half a million dollars a year and his estimated value in 1982 was $28 million. John Z. DeLorean was a real American success story, the poor boy who made good. Or so it appeared. Unfortunately, the DMC-12 racked up mediocre sales figures. Entering the market in 1981, it faced stiff competition from Datsun, Mazda and Porsche sports cars. At $26,000, it cost $8,000 more than the Chevrolet Corvette. And of course a recession during 1981-82 didn't help, either. DeLorean expected to sell 12,000 cars a year; in the first six months only 3,000 DMC-12s were purchased. (A pair of 24-karat solid gold cars bearing $85,000 price tags were made for an American Express Christmas catalog; one resides in a glass showcase in the lobby of a Snyder, Texas bank and the other is in a Reno,Nevada car museum.) By February 1982 the DMC factory was in receivership, and in October of that year the British government ordered it shut down. DeLorean needed $17 million in a hurry to save his business. In desperation he entered into a drug-smuggling scheme, and in so doing walked right into a FBI sting operation designed to nab a smuggler named William Hetrick. Hetrick was suspected of flying cocaine in from Colombia and moving it through the offices of a company called Morgan Aviation at Mojave Airport, ninety miles out of Los Angeles. He was looking for a bank that would launder his ill-gotten gains. The FBI confidential informant hooked Hetrick up with one agent posing as a bank officer and another who posed as a drug distributor. DeLorean then approached the CI, and was filmed and recorded at meetings in Washington D.C.'s L'Enfant Plaza Hotel as well as L.A.'s Bel Air Sands and the Sheraton Plaza. Hetrick was arrested after exchanging the cocaine for money; DeLorean was was taken into custody the following day when he flew into L.A. from New York. Ironically, he just missed a call from a banker who wanted to offer a legitimate $200 million loan that would have saved DMC, which shut its doors for good owing creditors $180 million. DeLorean's dream had turned to dust -- and left a lot of investors burned. Interviewed by Rolling Stone's Aaron Latham in 1983, DeLorean claimed that he was trying to get a loan using stock in a shell company as collateral, and that he tried to back out of the deal after discovering that drugs were involved. At that point, according to DeLorean, the lives of his kids were threatened. Furthermore, the money paid for the drugs brought in by Hetrick was provided by the government. DeLorean suggested that the government was out to destroy him because the Big Three automakers wanted to see his enterprise fail; at other times he surmised that either the British government or the Irish Republican Army had set him up. In 1984, DeLorean was acquitted of all charges after a federal judge ruled that the FBI operation had been a clear case of entrapment. He became a born-again Christian and wrote his autobiography. But in April, 1985 Christina divorced him, and that September a federal grand jury indicted him for income tax evasion and mail and wire fraud on evidence that he had bilked DMC investors, siphoning the funds into his private bank account. Though never convicted, DeLorean was ordered to reimburse creditors to the tune of $9 million. In 1995 a jury ordered him to pay the law firm of Morganroth and Morganroth $10.3 million in unpaid legal fees. In 1998 a New York jury ruled that DeLorean's accounting firm owed DMC investors $46 million, plus $65 million in interest. It is believed that a total of 8,563 DMC-12s were built. Approximately 6,000 of them still exist today. Someone has been feeding me lies it was 10/10/15 liein scumbag. Solve : The government is at it again, tracking people illegally...? |
|
Answer» http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101016/ap_on_re_us/us_gps_tracking_warrants Might want to check the belly of your car, from the looks of it that thing isn't easy to conceal. It's ridiculous that the GOVERNMENT thinks that we're at the bottom, when in reality the people have power over the government of the United States of America. The government makes people think it's the other way around from birth, however. Wish people would wake up and realize this and stop filing frivolous lawsuits, it's within our power to mandate that these things be made illegal.I will not even try to respond to your assertions. But thank you for the link. If was very interesting. FYI. You can change your oil without the need to craw under the car or jack it up.Quote from: Geek-9pm on October 17, 2010, 06:37:09 PM FYI. You can change your oil without the need to craw under the car or jack it up. How do you remove the oil filter from the top? Seriously. I'd love to know how to do that. +10 internets to you if you can tell us how.And how do remove the drain plug....which is on the bottom of the oil pan ? ?I'm glad they did it. Did you thoughtfully read the whole article? "Afifi was targeted because of his extensive ties to the Middle East, which include supporting two brothers who live in Egypt and making frequent overseas trips. His father was a well-known Islamic-American COMMUNITY leader who died last year in Egypt." If any government wants to track you, it can. If it wants to make it legal, it will.Well put...It's racial profiling, but that's just one reason why I'm against it. I think some people need to learn there rights as US citizens. It's We The People, not They The Government. If a person chooses to enter and leave the country, that's there right. The War on Terror is a FARCE, it was the west pissing off the east for something that was either done by our own government or people acting of there own accord and not of the interest of the nation we are now at war with. It was meant to do several things, first being invoke a hate in the middle east of western society more than there already was, that's done, so now comes the fear, with fear comes control. That's done too, the fear came in with 9/11 and shortly thereafter, the patriot act, which in and of its self is a violation of any US citizen's constitutional rights. So grows the power of the government, the government which is meant to have no power over us. The government has invoked, and, had to revoke things which they do not have the power to do time and time again because those things are simply unconstitutional, and flatout illegal. I have about as much faith in our government to correct things without someone else stepping in as I would have faith in a hand grenade not going off if thrown. This isn't the EU, you can't just track someone without legal cause, that's a violation of a persons privacy. The constitution was written in a time when such technology was completely unfathomable, THEREFOR, it needs to be REVISED to make such use of such technology restricted, severely restricted. To make myself clear, I am against an overpowered government, I'm all for limited government. People view the US government as the boss over the citizens, as they would view a superior in a work environment. This could not be farther from the way it was intended to be, the government in the United States of America was meant to be controlled by the people to prevent tyrannical leadership such as a monarchy from forming. This is the way the United States was shaped to be, and still can be. The US government has no right to meddle in personal matters, it has no right to decide the fate of most large corporations, it has no right to say what you can and cannot do without the vote of the people. Congress has way more power than originally intended, as does the president himself. The job of the president is not to do what HE feels is right, it's to do what the PEOPLE feel is right, as is the job of congress and every other branch formed by the founding fathers. To put it bluntly, too many people are crying over the problems, but nobody who can do anything does. I'm locking this thread. Partly because we don't permit politically oriented posts, and partly because you're an ... well, let's say it's because of the political orientation. |

I think someone spent sleepless nights on this..... Quote from: harry 48 on October 17, 2010, 09:18:02 AM ok , but if its freely available on utube is it not out there for everyone to use/copy what ever I think he meant that Youtube can yank the video for copyright claims. There's Kenny Loggins' record label that could request the video to be taken down (unless the author of the video received permission) for copyright. That is on top of the clips. ALBEIT small, the clips could be ground for a movie COMPANY making a copyright removal request, too (once again, unless the author has received permission for all those clips. Youtube USUALLY doesn't (or shouldn't) hunt for infringing clips without a copyright claim, however. Admire the video!!ok thanks for that ThomasTheXPUser Great video! I loved it! |

Answer» i agree somewhat with truenorth , there SEEMS to be only one person now helping out there and that is dave sometimes you would get jay and chris , i to have noticed people having to wait a long time and then dave would come in and answer a lot of new and old posts So it discourages me and removes my credibility as an advisor to learn that i am sending people there and what i promised would be the result is not assured.Very same here. I still direct people there, but I keep thinking, if I even should (no offense to couple of guys there, who really do what they can). Quote that as on all the other forums ANYONE can contribute their advise (good/bad /or indifferent)Which is point blank wrong and dangerous. Quote Um... you just described CBMATT.Again, nothing personal and no offense, but when was the last time, when he actually did something in malware forum. He's been practically absent, as well. Again, talking about "honorary" staff members. Quote Or, we could do something really crazy, like a custom title, like, say- just thinking- "malware specialist" maybe... oh what? that's already what it isIt's not. It's about people, who shouldn't be posting there. As I said before, I'm not aware of any other forum, when non-malware people are allowed to post. It's like giving a baby a grenade to play with. At the end, these are just my thoughts. I don't make rules around here. Quote from: Broni on October 03, 2010, 01:50:04 PM As I said before, I'm not aware of any other forum, when non-malware people are allowed to post. It's like giving a baby a grenade to play with.+1To my knowledge there's no restriction on posting in the Malware Forum and just like every other CH forum posters should expect dangerous advice to be edited or removed.By whom exactly? Is anyone monitoring that forum 24/7?If any CH Member sees a potentially dangerous post they should click on the "Report to Moderator" link, this will send an email to every Moderator and I can tell you, I respond to every email as do many others. Often when I respond the problem has already been fixed by someone else. I don't think we'll ever see 24/7 dedicated monitoring but the CH Membership does a pretty good job IMO.That rule may be good enough "safety valve" on any general forum, because there are plenty computer savvy people around here almost at any time of day, or night, but it's not in malware forum, because there are only very few people, who have any clue about malware issues, so how an average computer user can know, if some advice is good, or it'll make some computer not bootable very next minute. There is a reason, why all malware forums on all other boards are strictly restricted.I'm confused. What exactly are you suggesting Broni? More malware removal experts?Quote all i do now is send people to the " do this first topic " in the hope that they get the help People come and go. Either for the people mention in the previous post or for the person or user who seeks for advice or help. I think its both the responsibility of the helper and the one being help in some or maybe most threads whether its in malware, software, hardware section. There should also be a preliminary thread for malware issues(usually HJT) to be look upon by old members/mods or people who are experienced, wants to learn or wants to step-up to this issue. Then only it will be submitted or referred to the malware specialist/s to avoid certain waiting as stated. And it should also be a limited steps, taken out from the guidelines of malware section.Quote from: jason2074 on October 04, 2010, 12:03:26 AM Are you suggesting that pretty much anyone could evaluate hjt logs and post suggestions? I've seen SYSTEMS rendered inoperable because of inappropriate actions with hjt. As it stands now, anyone can post on our Malware forums but only designated Malware Experts can offer advice. Whether or not this is the most efficient method (for those waiting to be helped), it's certainly the safest. Receiving no advice is a whole lot better than receiving bad advice. To my mind Allan and Broni are expressing precisely the point i have been endeavoring to make. I strongly subscribe to this comment from Allan " Receiving no advice is a whole lot better than receiving bad advice." There was a reference earlier to the comparison of a "baby" and a "grenade" . I would suggest it is more aptly compared to the absence of a neurosurgeon in a hospital and at best a heart specialist tries to do it or in a completely unregulated environment the janitor does it. In my view if we do NOT have the expertise or the number of experts we need to govern our dispersement of the council we give to others with that as the dominate criteria we should curtail or cease offering the service until and if we can. Those that come to the malware forum (directed by other members or by their own initiative) are generally desperate and vulnerable to advice from anyone they feel can help them. They are also very often lacking in computer skills and knowledge and are hardly in a position to personally judge the competency or lack thereof of the advisor (well intentioned or not). Ideally, if the technology were capable, once the problem were stated by the O/P NO ONE other than an accredited malware specialist should be able to contribute to the thread . Of course there are some that will argue well shouldn't that be the case on ALL the forums of the CH. I say no. Because there are many factors that are different . Primarily a generally understanding that many members with widely varying levels of experience/knowledge/ability/fluency/and other factors will come forth with advise. Sufficient numbers of CH members exist that bad advise is usually quickly caught and negated. I for one would NOT be able to determine if the advice on the malware form was good or not. There are some forms i would NEVER consider myself credible to give advice on and other than to occasionally go there to perhaps learn something i totally refrain from input. Certainly the malware forum is one of them. However my observation is that not all members apply such personal constraints. I think the malware forum CAN be improved and encourage efforts toward that end. truenorthHow it's worded in the guidelines: Quote Under no circumstances should you attempt to fix things by following another log and doing it yourself. This can only lead to more problems and possibly an un-bootable system. Every machine and every INFECTION is unique and this method will only cause more problems.Quote If you receive advice from someone other than the approved Malware Removal Specialists, you do so at your own risk.If so, then what is the point for allowing non-malware specialists to reply in malware forum? Keep in mind, that the reality is, that 75% people don't read manuals, rules, etc., or they barely read them. "Too bad" answer won't do, because it's not about a glass of water, we're dealing here with, but a serious people's property.Quote from: Broni on October 04, 2010, 01:27:29 PM If so, then what is the point for allowing non-malware specialists to reply in malware forum? I still don't understand this. If the malware specialists are the only people allowed to post in the forum, then how will the people with the infected computers reply to them?On all other boards only original topic starter (malware victim) AND malware specialists are able to post AND reply. |

Solve : Boy Who Cried Wolf? |
|
Answer» There was a Shepherd Boy who tended his sheep at the foot of a mountain near a dark forest. It was lonely for him, so he devised a plan to get a little company. He rushed down towards the village calling out "Wolf, Wolf," and the villagers came out to meet him. This pleased the boy so much that a few days after he tried the same trick, and again the villagers came to his help. Shortly after this a Wolf actually did come out from the forest. The boy cried out "Wolf, Wolf," still louder than before. But this time the villagers, who had been fooled twice before, thought the boy was again lying, and nobody came to his aid. So the Wolf made a GOOD meal off the boy's flock. I rather suspect you have something else in mind -- I just can't figure out what, yet. Don't go SEARCHING too hard or you will ruin the surprise. (I doubt you will find it though)Well, if I actually trip over the clue, I won't give it away... No one else has REPLIED? I'll wait a few more days then. Ok, I'll just say it anyways. The moral of the story is: If you lie all the time, nobody's going to believe you, EVEN when you're telling the truth. OR IS IT: You should never tell the same lie twice. Are you running for President, too? Quote from: Aegis on September 04, 2008, 09:43:22 AM Are you running for President, too? Hmmm....I should, shouldn't I..... Explanation anyone? The moral of the story? Answer» I'm UNDECIDED as to what to fill in as my experience on my profile here, so I thought I'd leave it up to you. Personally, I put down "Expert" for myself... why? Well, see, its kind of hard for me to rate myself. Most of my knowledge best works for client driven environment (eg: helping users with domain connects, login errors, installing software, backing up, recovering data, accessing email, updates, and those other things that a tech student type person like me ends up doing being in such a small school)What a relief. At least now I know I'm experienced when I can navigate the control panel. *changes his experience from ''familiar'' to ''experienced''. Thanks Zylstra! EmielBased on Zylstra's explanation, I think i'll change mine to Expert. The option to leave it blank is no longer available, I seem to have changed my experience to Familiar by accident. By the way, who voted that I should be a Guru?OK, thanks for your votes of confidence. I'm interested by the results - 1 familiar, 2 experienced, 4 expert, 2 guru. Would be nice to know who voted what, but I'm not going to ask for that. I was considering staying as Familiar, as that's what I'd count myself as - I don't think I have enough experience to be higher than that, personally. However, I'll go with the flow. Besides, as a mod, I suppose it might scare people to see a "familiar" or "beginner" rating on me, perhaps. So, I'm now an expert.I've started an epidemic... Good choice, Calum. I think its the most fitting. |

I can see why larger FRESH water creatures would be endangered, however, in certain places in the US, I think if we look at the eco SYSTEM closely, we can determine how safe it is to put in a dam. I live near this thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Coulee_Dam (No, I'm not concerned about concealing my location... anyone who looks at my IP address can figure out I live in Central Washington) "INSTALLED generating capacity: 6809 MW" You wouldn't believe how much excess power we are producing. Theres four power houses, one entire power house that constantly runs doesn't even really dedicate power to anything.. Eventually, we will be selling our extremely cheap power to California. Hydro Electrics are quite common here, especially on the Columbia. When it was built, there were two effects: 1) Part of an Indian Reservation was taken over by water, and due to the hate towards Indians during the time it was built, it took a very long time for them to receive any sort of compensation for it. 2) Salmon populations decreased since no one had thought of a fish latter. Later on, a fish latter was built, and salmon restoration began. One benefit of the high price of oil is there is a greater incentive dollar wise to recycle plastics... Ammonia, Anesthetics, Antihistamines, Artificial limbs, Artificial Turf, Antiseptics, Aspirin, Auto Parts, Awnings, Balloons, Ballpoint pens, Bandages, Beach Umbrellas, Boats, Cameras, Candles, Car Battery Cases, Carpets, Caulking, Combs, Cortisones, Cosmetics, Crayons, Credit Cards, Curtains, Deodorants, Detergents, Dice, Disposable Diapers, Dolls, Dyes, Eye Glasses, Electrical Wiring Insulation, Faucet Washers, Fishing Rods, Fertilizer, Fishing Line, Fishing Lures, Food Preservatives, Food Packaging, Garden Hose, Glue, Hair Coloring, Hair Curlers, Hand Lotion, Hearing Aids, Heart Valves, Ink, Insect Spray, Insecticides, Linoleum, Lip Stick, Milk Jugs, Nail Polish, Oil Filters, Pantyhose, Perfume, Petroleum Jelly, Rubber Cement, Rubbing Alcohol, Shampoo, Shoes, Toothpaste, Trash Bags, Upholstery, Vitamin Capsules, Water Pipes, Clothing Ink, Parachutes, Telephones, Enamel, Epoxy paint, Car sound insulation, Cassettes, Motorcycle helmets, Pillows, Shower doors, Refrigerator linings, Electrical tape, Safety glass, Nylon rope, Ice buckets, Toilet seats, Denture adhesive, Loudspeakers, Movie film, Candles, Water pipes, Golf balls, Sunglasses, Soft contact lenses, Footballs, Paint brushes, Fan belts, Luggage, Toothbrushes, Ice cube trays, Plywood adhesive… So when you see these people that say they are tottally green I can just about guarantee you they are full of it....and of those things that are not made of oil they're almost guaranteed to have been processed using fossil fuels. Answer» Here is a 65 question interactive chart to tell you which candidate you agree with more, based on issues. I'm from the U.S., I care, and I was posting this for other Americans who care. There are some other Americans on this forum aren't there? If you don't care, don't take it. I posted it to help any Americans not sure how to vote. I sure as h**l don't. And of course it doesn't make them any better, power usually makes people worse. I wasn't making any assumptions, I didn't even say who I was in agreement with. I merely posted this to share information. Since its in Off Topic I don't even get a post count. I'll be happy as long as it isn't bush again. Raising lumber tarriffs against B.C to try to assist local lumberyards made sense to them, but it decimated our forestry industry, even if it was lifted, we're still SEEING the effects. So maybe I'm a bit harshened in that way. I wasn't trying to offend you, and I apologize if I did. No hard feelings. Believe me, I'm glad it won't be Bush again either. Problem is, next one could be worse than Bush.Quote from: typhoeus on September 06, 2008, 08:09:59 PM Problem is, next one could be worse than Bush. You can't really tell what their agenda is until after they've started executing it(well, with a few exceptions)Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 07, 2008, 08:26:33 PM well, with a few exceptions Like who? Quote from: typhoeus on September 07, 2008, 08:40:16 PM Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 07, 2008, 08:26:33 PMwell, with a few exceptions I don't know, I placed that little gem there just in case you could think of an exception. Every once in a while there is a POLITICIAN that actually wants to do good. Unfortunately they never seem to get in a position where they could, and even then who's to say they won't go drunk with power? As Churchill said, "democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried." Good old Winnie. Do you think he liked being called that? BTW, a good politician is called a "statesman." And a statesman is a dead politician. As to the Topic title i would have to say neither as they both have yet to phone me... I'm not concerned though ...they usually wait til about 3 weeks before the Election to ring me.I was referring to more than the Democratic and Republican parties, neither of which impress me. It's high time this country moved away from the awful two-party system. Vote based on issues, and what's important to you, not "Which of the two is less corrupt?" That's why I posted this. Obviously, you should not use this as your sole means of deciding who to vote for. This is just one tool to use. Research for yourself, and don't be swayed by propaganda. Think for yourself, don't let someone else think for you.Quote from: typhoeus on September 08, 2008, 09:01:30 PM It's high time this country moved away from the awful two-party system. It could help, but at the same time, with more people to vote for, voters could have trouble making an informed decision... Or, in some CASES, simply not vote to begin with. I believe the U.S has a higher voter turnout then a lot of other democracies with more parties to decide from, but that's purely speculation on my part. On the other hand, even with multiple parties, it seems that voters settle on one right wing and one left wing party, and each election either keeps the current one or swaps it for it's rival. Here in Canada the federal government majority seems to simply switch from Liberal to NDP, and back again, although sometimes the other parties receive a fair number of votes. Provincial politics works the same way mostly, with a few labour parties getting favour in (you guessed it) the provinces with more labour intensive industry (such as Alberta and Saskachewan). I never was taught anything about the american political system in school, my knowledge on it is from my 1950's encyclopedia, so I'm not sure how accurate it is (although I haven't heard about any sweeping changes)Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 09, 2008, 09:39:42 PM I never was taught anything about the american political system in school, my knowledge on it is from my 1950's encyclopedia That's no surprise. They don't teach us about it here either. Or balancing a checkbook. I'm sure that encyclopedia is a better source of information than a lot of the revisionist history books today. Or, in some cases, simply not vote to begin with. Doesn't that already happen? I think those that wouldn't do research then are the same one's who don't do research now. The ones who are swayed by propaganda, and get warm fuzzies whenever their grand leader talks. I think a lot of the people who would normally vote for one of the other parties end up voting for one of the big two because they think voting for one of the smaller parties won't make a difference. However, you're right, people do tend to group together as total opposites. Funny that way, isn't it? However, speaking for myself, I would rather vote for a party or candidate I believe in than just go to the corner that looks a little more like me than the other one. I think more people might be starting to think that way also after the highly unpopular Bush presidency. (11 and 12 moved into the realm of math not quite as applicable for everyday problems One THING the government could do, is instead of having special voting locations, they can do it like the census, have a bunch of people going house to house collecting voting information. Problem with that I suppose is that those that wouldn't normally vote probably won't have even gave it a thought, and will either ring off one of the larger names, or, HEAVEN forbid, ask the census taker their opinion. |
