Solve : Large Hadron Collider due to be switched on at 5pm AEST? |
|
Answer» I think it's a trick. So they say lol it might have come to an end... we just haven't noticed yet?!Exactly http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7604293.stm Quote Eventually, two proton beams will be steered in opposite directions around the LHC at close to the speed of light, completing about 11,000 laps each second. One lap is 27km. The beam of protons travel around the ring 11,000 times every second.....100m underground........in circles..... Phew! That's fast!Interesting.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9XotvwgnaYWhile I don't believe in the Big Bang, this could provide some interesting discoveries. I just don't believe that a universe this complex came from atoms colliding.Cool YouTube video about it. Would like to see a more up-to-date video though. |

Solve : US lawsuit calls Large Hadron Collider a Doomsday Machine? |
|
Answer» Quote from: Aegis on September 13, 2008, 06:46:46 PM I was on the bandwagon for a while, but was fortunate to hear debate from both sides. I still think we should curb our emissions where we reasonably can do so. Gore's no saint, but he's help raise awareness. We shouldn't go on acting like pollution is no big deal. Pollution is a big deal, but I don't think global warming is. Perhaps Gore has helped; even the smallest microorganisms contribute to the big picture. I'm glad you listened to both sides Aegis, and jumped off the Bandwagon. The most important thing to remember when forming an opinion is that the majority is not always right. And curbing emissions when possible is an great idea, its just not that contributory to global warming. Take a look at Gore's house and then tell me he's not a hypocrite...My point exactly. Hypocrites are a pet peeve of mine.Agreed. I want to knock on doors and ask these people why their opulent homes aren't shingled with solar panel shingles from which they could power the whole house most of the time -- heck, people with them sell their excess power back to the grid!Quote from: Aegis on September 13, 2008, 09:01:02 PM Agreed. I want to knock on doors and ask these people why their opulent homes aren't shingled with solar panel shingles from which they could power the whole house most of the time -- heck, people with them sell their excess power back to the grid! Good one. If we had been researching solar panels from the time they were first brought up, in the 70's, average people might be able to afford them by now. Instead we're still stuck with fossil fuels, whose price is going up daily. Quote from: typhoeus on September 13, 2008, 09:07:48 PM Quote from: Aegis on September 13, 2008, 09:01:02 PMAgreed. I want to knock on doors and ask these people why their opulent homes aren't shingled with solar panel shingles from which they could power the whole house most of the time -- heck, people with them sell their excess power back to the grid! and yet their price is almost 80% tax... I've never quite understood that. Why so many taxes?Because of all the debt.Quote from: typhoeus on September 13, 2008, 09:34:12 PM Because of all the debt. what do you mean? debt to whom?I was referring to the USA, and our enormous debt to various countries. Typhoeus out.Quote from: typhoeus on September 13, 2008, 09:39:54 PM I was referring to the USA, and our enormous debt to various countries. ok, other countries have debt to, Canada of course being no exception. But why are the taxes only applied to gasoline? WOuldn't it be more democratic to raise the GST instead?Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 13, 2008, 09:44:56 PM Quote from: typhoeus on September 13, 2008, 09:39:54 PMI was referring to the USA, and our enormous debt to various countries. Democracy has nothing to do with it. Stupidity has everything to do with it.Quote from: typhoeus on September 14, 2008, 12:06:03 PM Stupidity has everything to do with it. 80%, actually.Quote from: Aegis on September 13, 2008, 09:54:16 AM That may be true, T, but we should do what we can. We've been pumping hydrocarbons into the atmosphere since Britain industrialized in the late 1800's. We should err on the side of caution. That's a little over two hundred years, that's a split second to the earth. We are just like a bad case of flea's on the earth, when the time comes, things will circle around and the earth will shake us off. Its a simple matter of time, that's all. If you think I'm driving a Prius because people want to blame themselves for earths climate change, your nuts. I couldn't FIT in a Prius sized vehicle if my life depended on it. I'm more of the type to drive a full sized car from the 80's than a Prius. The whole fuel efficiency thing is a crock. My father drives a 1986 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser with a 307 big block Oldsmobile V8. The engine came stock in the car, he's removed the emissions and removed almost everything tied in with them except the distributor and carburetor. He still has to find the parts to replace them to the 1980 model with no computer/emissions. Anyway, the point of this is, the wagon weighs roughly 4,600lbs with him in it, and all his tools and such, yet it gets almost 20MPG in town, and about 22, or 24MPG on the highway. Not bad considering the vehicle, the point being, global warming is a marketing SCHEME. Emission controls where one of the many marketing schemes that rolled cars up into the confusing mess of plastic electronic crap they are now. Where if they break, your screwed unless you invest a good chunk of what you paid for the car to have it fixed. Its about making crap cheaper and calling it "Eco-Friendly" then selling it for way more than its worth. Whats with all these 40MPG vehicles that a couple years ago got half that? Explain that, I already can, its marketing, everybody that's rich gets richer, everybody that gets poor gets poorer, and they don't care. What do you think the the Hadron Collider is for? To the scientists, its about finding out what Mass is, but I'm sure someone funding them is looking to eventually find a way to BECOME richer. Think about it, the ability to create things from nothing, think if you controlled that. Just think about it, sounds crazy, but its highly plausible. Quote from: Dead_Reckon on September 14, 2008, 08:01:24 PM Quote from: Aegis on September 13, 2008, 09:54:16 AMThat may be true, T, but we should do what we can. We've been pumping hydrocarbons into the atmosphere since Britain industrialized in the late 1800's. We should err on the side of caution. And drinking diet soda makes you go crazy later in life. the MPG thing may be a crock, but we'll run out of oil eventually (unless they find a way to create it- hey, they did with diamonds...). THe number of miles per gallon a vehicle can get is irrelevant when there is no gasoline to fuel it.Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 14, 2008, 09:45:46 PM THe number of miles per gallon a vehicle can get is irrelevant when there is no gasoline to fuel it. That's my point ENTIRELY, its all irrelevant in the end, they don't want consumers to see that. Its a mass media market, you see what they want you to see unless your actually looking. Call me crazy if you want, but the way I see it, every bit of the modern society in America is designed to only a few things, those things are to subliminally control the people by slowly chopping away our rights. Same way they did in Europe, hence the EU, same way they'll do here, creating the NAU, North American Union. Of which, you can find little about, but its already in play. To put it bluntly, its all just a blind stupid power struggle to decide who owns you, doesn't matter where you live, someone owns you. In the end, nothing matters, live your life to suit you and disregard those to blind to see the system the way it is. That's my way of living, call me crazy if you want, but I doubt I'll stay on the grid all my life just because of the crap that's snowballing up in the present. Point being is like I said, if you are a part of the system, your owned, your branded cattle, one of just a many in a herd. They don't care about us as INDIVIDUALS, they care about us as a whole group the same way a farmer cares about his flock as a whole group. They don't care about loosing one or a few, just loosing a whole lot that might affect there well being, without us, they can't be rich no more, and they can't go off doing senseless science projects like with the Hadron Collider. Humans ask to much of there environment, always breaking down and analyzing, but most of us don't stop and look at whats around us, stop to think how easily all this could end. All it would take is a couple idiots doing a couple stupid things to end the way of life that we so BLINDLY submit to. Sure, go ahead, I know most of the ones here my age are all hoping to go for the American Dream, a house, possibly kids, couple new cars, and maybe a cute puppy. The thing about the American Dream is, you have to be asleep to believe it, and most people are dreaming away. I see things the way they are, simple, to the point. People are ignorant, and too self absorbed in most cases, which is why the whole world is the mess it is. Its human nature, something much like the planets cycles that cannot be changed easily. But that doesn't mean it can't be changed, look at society, its slowly getting tamer, the line between part of society and a threat to society is becoming a very sharp edge. And that's the way the people that own you want it, they want you to be a part of the crowd, part of the blind society, one of many who think as a blind whole body never seeing outside there lives. Instead of one that see's himself as one of many, one who is an INDIVIDUAL, one who thinks for himself and one who acts on his own. One who isn't part of the crowd because he thinks outside of the box so to speak, one who will not abide by there standards and rules, and one who will not simply sit when told. Take what you want out of this, my point is, people do as there told, as they are conditioned and trained to do. They obey, they sit when told, and they don't realize it. How does this relate to the Hadron Collider? That's simple, its all human nature. To explore, to question, to break things down to there simplest form, but most of all, to control the environment around them. |

Solve : Pink Floyd member dies? |
|
Answer» Pink Floyd member Richard Wright dies at age 65 BTW...I have a whole set, every single record (CD), they ever made. Below is why I missed Jim Morrison and the Doors. I was from Jacksonville ,Florida.I had tickets but, it was not to be DAMMITT!!! http://www.doors.com/miami/one.htmlHeh, here's a good one. I was talking to my ex this morning and asked her if it was 1994 when we went to that concert. She kindly informed me it was 1987 or maybe 88 that we saw them, accompanied by the familiar "your an idiot" look I have grown accustom to... Guess it's only fitting that the album was A Momentary Lapse of Reason. And explains the flying bed. Edit: It was May of 1988. May Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri It's quite sad when the original "Old Timers" GO. I saw Pink Floyd at Iverwin Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario back in 1971 or 72. One of the best shows I've ever seen (at least the parts that I remember). We were snuck in by a cool security guard who felt sorry that we didn't have tickets!I can only wish I was old enough to go to concerts in the 70's. Not that I want to be older lol, but they just aren't the same as they were in the 80's when I first started going to them. A rock album used to be a masterpiece and the live show was just as good. Now with a new album (CD) you get one hit and a BUNCH of other songs... |

Solve : The reason for G.W. Bush's stupidity? |
|
Answer» Tell that to my uncle or father drm. I admit, my grammatical and mathematical skills are somewhat poor, but I can easily blame that on the HORRIBLE school system here. Never cared for most of what they had to teach. That is part of my point though, don't you notice that even countries like China have a better school system than ours? Yet, we are the only country with globally accredited colleges? There silencing, stupefying, and blinding us man, that's all it is. Believe what you want, the truth will catch up with you some day. I can assure you of that. I'm beginning to wonder if for whatever reason, you take out your anger on other people drm. Maybe its out of self pity that you yourself are a failure? Who knows? I don't understand ignorant people like you, so faithful in the system. So convinced that what you believe is right and nothing else but that can be so. Convinced that everything you've been told from the first memories of your life that you can recall is right, and convinced that you yourself are somehow better than others due to your age. I'll just file this under "typical response of a adolescent". what criteria are required for that? well:
I also missed some oher posts: Hmm, let's see here: Quote from: Dead_Reckon on September 18, 2008, 09:59:01 PM don't you notice that even countries like China have a better school system than ours? Have you ever been to china? Quote from: Dead_Reckon on September 18, 2008, 05:17:42 PM believing what your told and calling anyone who says any different crazy.Yes, it goes much farther to call them a monkey instead. In short, it will go much farther to make others believe your own argument if you don't simply call theirs a "misplacement of faith in the system" and rather actually provide some real evidence (and NO, the web is not in GENERAL a source of good information. The web is a mess of more lies, deceit, and malevolent ideals then any politician could weave.). Saying their "monkeys" doesn't EARN you any brownie points either, nor does trying to justify staying in school with an attitude of being "above them", or using the words "know" and "believe" interchangably. This is why i'm glad we don't delve into Politics here.... And if it continues Nathan will probably shut it down. For now i'll close it and if others feel it needs re-opened so be it. Topic Closed. |

Answer» That was buried in our first FAMILY PC at one point, a gateway 2000, it overclocks from 133MHz (Pentium MMX) to 233MHz using JUMPERS, and the power from a floppy cable on some odd board that the CPU PLUGS into. Here's a picture of the underside: Its an antique by today's standards, but still, very cool.Good EXAMPLE of overclocking! I've overclocked a couple of my processors in the past. Solve : some of my artwork? |
|
Answer» as suggested by computeruler (kevin..right? ) i'm posting some of my artwork. wow!! ok, i'll try to explain the steps. pardon my english. sleeping angel and pieta were made with pse and photo impact. i was using tools of both software and photos. in sleeping angel i have first created layout in pse with gradiant tool. than i went to photo impact to use bubble effect and DISTORTION. i keep the work saved in psd file. on the first layer i have ADDED photos of the angels and then i use the layer tool on the right of pse where i can play with tools like overlay, multiply...until i get the best effect. after this step was done, i have used again photo impact to add additional bubble effect with larger bubbles and another light effect. in the end i do flatten images (layers) and i put the last filter oil painting effect on. in pieta i have used 2 different layers. the first is the yellow background with photo of pieta. the second is the red layout with head of virgin mary and rosery. i have used the same bubble effect from photo impact and cloud effect. in the end i have put both layers together and mark/diselect tool to get the tin yellow vertical lines. again flatten images and oil painting effect as finish. on the last wallpaper (iman) i was working with ps3 and have used different brush sets which i have downloaded mostly from brusheezy.com. like in pieta, i have background layout and layout with photo of iman. some of the brushes were used directly on the basic layer and for some brushes were used new layers. i did experiment with it but i can't remember exactely what steps i have made here. when i was satisfied with the effect i have flattened images and was working additionaly on the FONT and lines effect. there is no oil painting effect used as finish.hmmm ill have to check out that photo impact software... thanks for explaning these steps!! ill have to experimnet with it and see what happens also ill have to check out the brushbreezy site and download some brushes thanks!!!!!!!!!you are welcome. here are some useful links for adobe tutorials. i do read them and learn alot. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/01/10/adobe-photoshop-tutorials-best-of/ http://www.adobetutorialz.com/ahh thanks!!!!!!!! heres another site http://www.tutorialized.com/cool!!! thank you. have fun when creating. |

Answer» i need to get a tablet... did you like draw by hand the one of your friend? or whatA combination of free hand drawing, effects, a bit of mouse work, and a lot of patience. ahhh i seeSome might ask, Q, why you use GIMP when you have Photoshop? While GIMP is similar to Photoshop, it's effects and such don't always come out the same. Therefore, you can do some interesting things when you use effects from both.I've never had much patients with photoshop or general editing of photo's, video, and audio. Guess that's why I always sucked at it, anyway, NICE work man. Keep it up, you might be able to get a JOB in the field of Graphic Design or SOMETHING. Lotta money in that field. |

Answer» Heh, I Carbon is ok. Alizee: Great -- all these photos without names. I guess we're just supposed to know who these people are. Anybody whose anybody knows who these people are. I MEAN, if we aren't supposed to go through life evangelizing everything they do and gossiping about whatever new boyfriends some famous lip-syncing no talent artist has, what the heck are we supposed to do? I vote "not care". Names people, Names, we need names to the faces, without names to the faces, we'll have to give them generic names, like strange colourful string blue shirt woman. Solve : Train Engineer in Crash Was Texting on Job? |
|
Answer» http://www.pcworld.com/article/151245/article.html?tk=nl_cxanws The Metrolink commuter rail engineer involved in the deadly train collision in Chatsworth, Calif., last Friday had sent and received text messages while on DUTY that day, the National Transportation Safety Board said today. However, NTSB investigators said in a statement that they are still trying to determine the timing of the messages that engineer Robert Sanchez sent and received and to compare them with the time of the crash that killed 25 people and left 135 injured. The NTSB didn't say how many texts Sanchez sent or received or provide other details. Regardless of the timing of Sanchez's texting, there were calls today for more legislation and regulations to ban texting while operating TRAINS or driving cars. The California Public Utilities Commission is meeting today and is expected to ban personal use of all wireless devices by train workers to correct an omission in federal railroad regulations, according to a PUC report obtained by The Los Angeles Times. In addition, Metrolink prohibits rails workers from using cell PHONES on the job. "Texting is worse than talking on a cell phone because your eyes are down," said Jack Gold, an analyst with J. Gold Associates in Northborough, Mass. in an interview. "This accident just points out the fact that a lot of people don't use common sense while texting, and more legislation forbidding it is coming, I'm sure." California enacted a hands-free law affecting cell phone use while driving, in 2006, and the state's legislature has approved a bill that would ban texting while driving, which awaits the governor's signature. Alaska, Minnesota, New Jersey and Washington state have laws banning texting while driving, while similar legislation is pending in 16 other states, according to the Governors' Highway Safety Association. Gold said he was amazed that more major lawsuits have not been brought against cell phone makers and wireless service providers by families of victims of accidents involving wireless devices. "Those companies are basically giving people a product that distracts them and leads to accidents," he said. When the cell phone companies argue against legislation "it's like the National Rifle Association saying you should be able to buy an armor piercing round for your assault weapon." Gold, who has covered the wireless industry for decades, said last week's train crash will provide an incentive for more legislation affecting drivers, and if the cellular industry continues to lobby against laws, it will lose. "They can't win this one," he said. "What politician would vote against a bill against texting while driving if they find a train engineer killed 25 people while texting?" Gold said cellular carriers aren't hurt by such legislation, especially since they are beginning to charge flat monthly rates for data usage instead of a cost per text message. "It's hard to understand how carriers can oppose such laws," he said. As for users, Gold said, "we all love our mobile phones, but even if you asked mobile phone users if they think it's right to text while driving, 95 PERCENT would say no." States have generally been well behind the curve in enacting laws to limit cell phone and texting usage because legislatures tend to lag behind new technologies, Gold said. In Massachusetts, where Gold resides, there isn't a hands-free law affecting cell phone use, despite the fact there are many savvy technology users in the state, he noted. The CTIA, a Washington-based association that represents all the major cellular carriers, says educating the public about safe driving while using wireless devices is more effective than passing legislation, according to its Web site. The trade group has consistently argued through the years that drivers are distracted by many factors, including using a car radio or talking to passengers, and that wireless devices do not pose a greater distraction than those. A spokesman could not be reached immediately to comment on the impact of last Friday's crash. |

No thank you.Quote from: BC_Programmer on September 24, 2008, 01:53:39 PM Do you mean the SWF, or the WNK file- the WNK file is 18 MB, and hotmail refuses to allow for anything over 10MB. Is there any way you can compress the file in a zipped package...making it SMALLER? This way...you may be able to email it to me...I managed to compress it, HOWEVER- It wouldn't compress at all using ZIP(even with maximum compression)- With 7-Zip format, I managed to get it to compress to 4MB. I will E-Mail this to you- If you don't have an archiver capable of reading 7-ZIP format, you could temporarily install 7-ZIP from www.7zip.com. Aside from that- did you MANAGE to view the tutorial on your end with the SWF? And if so- any thoughts? I'm not at home at the moment...will have to check it later this evening and get back to you. I do have 7-zip, btw...so it shouldn't be a problem.Update... The flash tutorials have been nixed for HTML. Flash wasn't such a good idea, after all. I had issues with it in IE7, as well as file sizes. Anyway...in case anyone is wondering what the new tutorials will look like...here ya go: Windows Vista - How to Change Desktop WallpaperOmg I love the mascot for your Tutorials Did you make him yourself and what program did you use? Hes a really good Artist. EDIT: he even has Tutorials. I'm here- so I'll update anybody watching this topic- we're no longer going the route of using the flash rendered by Wink, and are instead using it's HTML export feature. This was mostly because IE7 users weren't able to see the tutorials, which almost defeats the purpose of their Existence, given that most people who would find them useful likely still have IE7. Side effects of the change are almost all positive, however, excepting the need to edit any PRESENTATIONS designed for SWF usage to better suit the HTML OUTPUT. BC_Programmer's contribution: Windows XP - How to Change Desktop Wallpaper Nice job, my friend... ...and Thank you for your contribution. SteveJust one of many! |

Answer» Quote from: Dead_Reckon I sign on randomly throughout the day, so what does that have to do with anything? I got nothin' else to do because I ain't working at the time. Can't work, got no transportation until I find the money to get a motor for the bicycle I have. Too much of a pain to pedal around this place. If the river ain't in your way here, its either a hill or a honda. Usually both. Either way, Even with all this free time. I don't sit randomly googling crap like you SEEM to do. You seem to think you know me, but you don't. That's the case with pretty much EVERYONE who judges someone over what they think to be there opinion.I Judge you bye your words and how you communicate in this forum. Sigh, I suddenly remember why I stopped coming here. This topic was about a mythbusters episode. Now, Well, I don't know, but I can assure you it has gone off-topic. I can also assure you we will see nothing more productive come from this thread. Wether it will be humourous, on the other hand, is another story altogether. Quote from: Dead_Reckon on September 30, 2008, 07:24:08 PM I don't sit randomly googling crap like you seem to do. First, that wasn't me, second, who cares if they can take 30 to 40 seconds to "google random crap"? What are they supposed to do with that time? SPARK a flame war? And I don't google random crap myself- my last Google search was an attempt to find the proper Function Header for the COPYPROGRESSROUTINE procedure. Dead_Reckon: Follow the STEPS described in PATIO's post. Patio may not be a doctor- heck, he might not even know somebody whose used a toaster in a hospital, but his prognosis isn't at random. You suffer a serious medical condition termed "annoyinitis". You have a tendency to add posts that contribute nothing positive to the discussion at hand aside from sparking a flame war and introducing the first use of the word "Porn" into the thread, albiet out of context. You guys should join our school's debate club. Anyways, this thread has gone way off track. Why can't we all just get along? Locking topic as it has outlived its useful purpose. |

I WOULD then still need someone over 21 who has held their license for 3 or more years to supervise me.
